Lao Athletes Make Waves at SEA Games With Impressive Medal Tally

Lao athletes have been racking up more and more medals at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia and the country’s medal tally grew to an impressive 38 on 9 May.

According to the official website of the SEA Games hosted by Cambodia, Lao athletes have won four gold medals across different sports.

The first is Kongnern Inthisan, who clinched gold at the Kun Bakator, Men’s Single Bare Hands Form event. The other athletes who won the top accolade include Phoudthala Keokannika, in the Petanque, Men’s Shooting event, Chanthalansy Chanthasida and Phoutthasin Pienpanya, who won gold in the Vovinam, Men’s Pair Machete Form event, along with the men’s team in Sepaktakraw And Chinlone, Men’s Chinlone (Linking) event.

Seven Lao athletes took home the silver medal across six different sports, namely Ju-Jitsu, Kun Khmer, Kun Bakator, Pentanque, Vovinam, and Sepaktakraw And Chinlone. Of them, three were male athletes, one was female and one was a mixed team.

Among the silver medalists was Lao-American athlete, Jedidiah Phomsavath Slayman, who represented Laos in Ju-Jitsu.

As for the bronze medal, Lao sportspersons have collected a total of 27 up to this point, in different sports from Ju-Jitsu, Kun Bakator, Kun Khmer, Obstacle Race, Karate, Soft Tennis, Vivonam, Petanque and Sepaktakraw And Chinlone.

During this time, Lao athletes saw a special visit from the President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, who met them at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh. He congratulated them for their efforts and urged them to use this opportunity to share their lessons and experiences with other athletes and foster a sense of unity and friendship with participants from different countries at the SEA Games.
