Prime Minister Calls for Ensuring Children’s Development and Prosperous Future in Laos

This Week

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has urged the people of Laos to guarantee that all children have equal opportunities to reach their maximum potential and secure a promising future.

Emphasizing the theme of “Investing in Our Future means Investing in Our Children,” Dr. Sonexay made the call during a special message highlighting the crucial role children play as future leaders in driving the nation towards prosperity.

He expressed pride on behalf of the government, stating, “I am proud to witness the growth and progress of the children and young individuals in Laos, as they flourish and thrive like seeds. They are nurtured, supported, protected, and actively engaged in the nation’s development, contributing to their comprehensive development.”

“On this occasion, I extend my heartfelt wishes to children of all ethnic groups in Laos, both within the country and abroad. May they enjoy excellent health, wisdom, and prosperity. The presence of mental sharpness and creativity in a child signifies their potential to grow into industrious individuals and valuable contributors to society in the future.”

Laos observes International Children’s Day jointly with National Arbor Day, emphasizing the occasion’s significance and placing children at the center of efforts to build important resources for Laos.

The government has prioritized activities such as raising awareness, fostering participation, and investing in children through various measures aimed at safeguarding their rights and interests, while through strengthened legislation, children are being empowered to play a progressively influential role in development by expressing their views and contributing to transformative actions.

National efforts include the issuance of a report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, as well as Laos’ active involvement in the 5th Lao Children’s Forum and the 7th ASEAN Children’s Forum held in Indonesia.

Dr. Sonexay further extended his appreciation to the Party and state leadership for their guidance in this endeavor, commending various entities including the National Commission for the Advancement of Women, Mothers, and Children, government bodies at central and local levels, mass organizations, international organizations, private businesses, and the entirety of the Lao population.

In the interest of the nation, Dr. Sonexay emphasized that children must dedicate themselves to their studies, acquiring knowledge and skills, in order to contribute to the development of Laos.
