Five Thai nationals and one Lao citizen were reported dead in a road accident in Boten District, Bokeo Province on Friday.
Chiang Rai Update reports that 20 passengers traveled in two separate vans before one of the vans carrying ten passengers collided with a truck on the R3A road, which connects the northern Thai province of Chiang Rai and Bokeo Province, Laos.
The accident victims had just returned from a trip in Kunming, China to Bokeo where the truck collided with the passenger van.
A 35-year-old Lao driver and five Thai passengers died at the scene with three people receiving minor injuries, according to Bokeo Red Cross Emergency Service.
The injured victims were first transported to the Chiang Khong Crown Prince Hospital in Thailand for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent to the Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital.
The accident comes as Thailand celebrates its six-day long weekend in celebration of King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s Birthday. Large volumes of tourists have been observed entering Laos during the holiday period at various checkpoints across the country.
