E-Commerce Key Export Enabler For Asean-6 Micro, Small And Medium Sized Enterprises According To Report Commissioned By Amazon Global Selling

  • 90% of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in ASEAN-6[1] stated that they would not be able to export without e-commerce.
  • U.S. among top priority destination countries today and in the next 5 years for ASEAN-6 MSMEs exporting through e-commerce.
  • Thousands of businesses in Southeast Asia (SEA) – many of which are micro, small and medium-sized businesses – export their products to the U.S. through Amazon Global Selling. The number of new SEA sellers selling in the U.S. through Amazon Global Selling increased by 50% year over year[2].

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 13 November 2024 Today, Amazon Global Selling (AGS) shared the results of a report about the opportunities and challenges faced by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the ASEAN-6 countries—Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines—as they navigate the expanding global e-commerce landscape.

According to the report conducted by Access Partnership and commissioned by Amazon Global Selling, ASEAN-6’s B2C e-commerce export revenue was estimated at USD 18.9 billion in 2023, with MSMEs accounting for 38% of this total. Assuming the current pace of e-commerce adoption and export, this could rise to USD 30.4 billion by 2028, with MSMEs potentially increasing their share to 48%. 90% of MSMEs in ASEAN-6 said that they would not be able to export without e-commerce. The report indicates that the U.S. are among the top priority destination countries today and in the next 5 years for ASEAN-6 MSMEs exporting through e-commerce.

Anand Palit, head of Southeast Asia for Amazon Global Selling said: “e-commerce unlocks a world of export possibilities for MSMEs and entrepreneurs by offering direct access to a global customer base and a chance to carve their own path on the international stage.”

Amazon Global Selling, which helps businesses from anywhere in the world to launch a global business on Amazon, has dedicated teams in Southeast Asia to help prospective and existing Amazon sellers and support local entrepreneurs to tap into this new export opportunity. Anand Palit added: “Thousands of businesses in Southeast Asia sell their products in Amazon’s U.S. store through Amazon Global Selling, and the number of new sellers in Southeast Asia selling on Amazon.com has increased by 50% in 2024 compared to last year[3].”

Challenges faced by ASEAN-6 MSMEs exporting through e-commerce

However, according to the report, nine out of ten MSMEs identify a lack of understanding of foreign export regulations and high logistics costs as their primary obstacles. 90% of MSMEs agree that lack of knowledge of e-commerce import regulations in destination countries impede their ability to export via e-commerce. The top country MSMEs seek to bridge their gap in the knowledge of e-commerce export regulations is the U.S.

Amazon provides its selling partners with a variety of tools, services and programs – including educational resources on destination country regulations and international shipping – which simplify critical aspects of selling to customers around the world. SEA selling partners can benefit from Amazon’s state-of-the-art international logistic capabilities to help them move products more easily and cost effectively across borders. Amazon’s end-to-end Supply Chain by Amazon service, simplifies operations and optimizes inventory placement for selling partners, unlocking faster delivery speeds from factories to customers. SEA businesses selling in the U.S. on Amazon can also provide U.S. customers with fast, premium shipping with Fulfilment By Amazon (where Amazon can pick, pack, and ship orders in the U.S. on behalf of its selling partners) at a cost that is 70% less per unit than comparable premium options offered by other U.S. fulfilment services.

Alisha Tan, Marketing Director of Malaysia-based Galano Furniture, selling with Amazon in North America said: We have adopted Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), which has offered us peace of mind in terms of customer service and last-mile delivery. We have seen a remarkable business growth in 2023 and are looking forward to expanding our presence to Amazon Canada, UK, and Germany in 2024.”

Amazon tools also help simplify listing products across countries with automated translation and currency conversion capabilities for managing pricing and receiving disbursements. Altogether, Amazon makes it dramatically easier for small businesses to sell globally.

SUNHOUSE, a Vietnamese home and kitchen appliances brand, chose Amazon as its first store to drive its global e-commerce expansion. “Expanding into international markets is an essential and strategic move for Sunhouse to assert the standing of both Vietnamese enterprises and brands on the global stage. This path, while essential, is fraught with anticipated challenges. However, throughout this ambitious journey, Amazon has been a key partner, standing alongside Sunhouse and supporting us in overcoming the hurdles of global market entry. Being a selling partner on Amazon has allowed us to list and promote our products swiftly to global consumers, particularly in the U.S. market, and continuously evaluate and refine our strategies. With Amazon’s support, we’ve optimized our cost structure, boosted revenue, and set the foundation for continuous growth over the next three years,” said Mr. Le Tung, Chief Marketing Officer of Sunhouse.

Joseph Zapanta, Chief Operating Officer of Argon40, a Philippine-based distributor and manufacturer of consumer electronics products said: “The main benefit of selling on Amazon is being able to reach customers in the U.S. directly without the necessity of setting up a physical store there. As an emerging brand and a start-up company, selling on Amazon enabled us to be on the same stage as established brands.”

Government-industry partnerships

According to the report, over 90% of MSMEs surveyed agree that government-industry partnerships could help them better navigate foreign markets, while 92% emphasize the importance of online resources for enhancing their e-commerce capabilities. While the potential for growth in e-commerce exports is significant, the report highlights the necessity of coordinated efforts to empower MSMEs, ensuring they can fully engage in and benefit from the global digital economy.

This is why Amazon Global Selling actively works with government agencies across ASEAN to support local sellers reach global customers. In Singapore, AGS collaborated with Enterprise Singapore and Singapore Business Federation to launch the Cross-Border Brand Launchpad Program[4] which will equip over 100 local MSMEs with the skills to launch and scale their brands globally. Thanks to this program, Singapore-based Everiday Foods has rapidly expanded its reach beyond Singapore. Founder Riyana Rupani credits the program with helping the brand break into the competitive U.S. destination, where demand for their healthy products has surged. “Without Amazon Global Selling, she says, it would have been a daunting task to connect with U.S. customers on such a large scale. Today, Everiday Foods is thriving, sharing its message of wellness with a global audience.”

In Malaysia, Amazon Global Selling recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) to bolster export capabilities of Malaysia’s MSMEs[5] and in Thailand, AGS is strengthening of their collaboration with Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) to help more Thai brands sell in the Amazon U.S. store.[6]

SIBUR takes part in COP29 business programme

MOSCOW, RUSSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 13 November 2024 – SIBUR, Russia’s largest producer of polymers and rubber, participated in the business programme at the UN’s Climate Change Conference (COP29), which is taking place in Azerbaijan, where it shared its experience in incorporating high-tech solutions, implementing climate projects and trading carbon credits, dealing with ecosystem risks and developing a circular economy.

During a discussion at Russia’s COP29 pavilion, SIBUR representatives highlighted that in 2019 the company was one of the first in Russia to adopt a sustainability strategy.

The company is on track to meet the targets set out in the strategy through the end of 2024. Notably, it has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 5% in the Gas Processing segment and by 15% in the Petrochemicals segment ahead of schedule. In addition, the company plans to transition to 100% renewable energy at its SIBUR-PETF production site, making the facility carbon-neutral by 2025.

To date, the company has completed eight climate initiatives at its plants, resulting in a total reduction of 10.8 million tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions over the last decade and generating over 3.3 million verified carbon credits that are available for trading in both Russian and international markets.

SIBUR has already completed no fewer than 15 carbon credit transactions, enabling its customers and partners to reduce or fully offset the carbon footprint of their operations, products or events.

One source of SIBUR’s carbon credits stems from forestry-based climate initiatives. For example, the company completed a large-scale programme this year to plant 5 million trees to capture CO2 in its regions of operations.

Future initiatives under consideration include the re-watering of bogs at former peat extraction sites in order to prevent forest fires and restore wetlands, which are natural CO2 sinks.

SIBUR also plans to offset the Russian delegation’s COP29 carbon footprint, making it the first carbon-neutral delegation in the conference’s history. The offset will be achieved using carbon credits generated from a climate initiative aimed at improving energy efficiency at SIBUR-Neftekhim. The credits will be debited from the company’s account in the Russian Carbon Units Registry.

The carbon footprint will be calculated by Kept, and TÜV AUSTRIA Standards & Compliance will verify the carbon-neutrality statement.

China’s economic influence on Southeast Asia: insights with global broker Octa

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 13 November 2024 – As China solidifies its influence across Southeast Asia, it becomes the region’s largest trading partner and a crucial investor in areas like infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy. This release explores how China’s expanding economic reach shapes Southeast Asian markets, from Indonesia’s booming coal exports to Vietnam’s tech transformation, and provides a glimpse into future growth projections for 2025.

China's economic influence on Southeast Asia: insights with global broker Octa

China’s role as a key economic partner for Southeast Asia has been growing at a rapid pace, influencing various sectors, from infrastructure to technology and trade. In 2023 alone, China’s trade with ASEAN countries reached an estimated $975 billion, making China the region’s largest trading partner by a significant margin. Southeast Asian nations, in turn, are benefiting from this relationship through increased investments, robust infrastructure development, and a steady demand for exports. The mutual economic benefits are undeniable as both China and Southeast Asia gain from this deepening integration. In this release, Kar Yong Ang, a financial market analyst at global broker Octa, explores China’s expanding economic influence in Southeast Asia, examining the opportunities and challenges this partnership brings to investors and markets alike.

China as Southeast Asia’s economic powerhouse
China’s infrastructure investments have significantly reshaped Southeast Asia’s economic landscape, establishing deeper ties between countries and impacting financial markets across the region. Through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China has committed over $180 billion to projects in ASEAN nations, building essential infrastructure such as ports, railways, and highways. Notable examples include Malaysia’s $11 billion East Coast Rail Link, designed to enhance connectivity between trade hubs and reduce logistical costs, and the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project in Indonesia, which has already begun transforming trade routes and accelerating economic activity.

This increased connectivity and reduced transportation costs are estimated to boost regional trade volumes by up to 10% annually, supporting stronger local currencies and promoting more stable currency pairs across Southeast Asia. Moreover, these projects contribute to a nearly 15% rise in stock prices within sectors directly tied to infrastructure, such as construction and logistics, creating substantial opportunities for investors aiming to capitalise on the region’s expanding role as a trade and logistics hub.

China’s influence is particularly notable in the following sectors.

  1. Infrastructure and manufacturing
China’s investments in Southeast Asian infrastructure, such as the $11 billion East Coast Rail Link in Malaysia, reshape regional logistics. By 2024, China accounted for more than 50% of foreign direct investment in the region’s manufacturing and construction sectors, including smart city and transportation hub development projects.
  2. Technology and digital transformation
China invests heavily in Southeast Asia’s digital transformation, funding all sorts of projects, from e-commerce platforms to cloud technology hubs. In Vietnam, for example, Chinese investments in electronics and information technology exceed $30 billion, helping the country become one of the leading electronics exporters in the region.

Spotlight on 2024: China’s economic impact on Southeast Asia’s major markets
China’s demand for Southeast Asia’s resources and commodities continues to be a powerful driver for economic growth in the region.

  • Malaysia
In Malaysia, exports to China have surged, particularly electronics and machinery. Malaysia’s trade with China grew by over 9% in 2023, and this trend is anticipated to continue as Malaysia aligns its trade strategy with China’s consumer demand in manufacturing and electronics.
  • Indonesia
China is Indonesia’s largest coal and palm oil market, accounting for 40% of Indonesia’s total coal exports. This reliance has translated into a strong trade relationship, boosting Indonesia’s GDP by an estimated 1.5% in 2024 due to coal and palm oil exports alone.
  • Vietnam. China’s $30 billion investment in Vietnam’s technology sector is helping transform the nation into a major electronics exporter, contributing nearly 15% to Vietnam’s GDP. These investments are crucial as they help Vietnam transition from an agriculture-based economy to a technology and manufacturing hub.

Looking ahead to 2025: Next for China-Southeast Asia relations
As Southeast Asia seeks continued economic growth, China is expected to maintain its position as a key partner, bolstered by agreements like the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Covering 30% of the world’s GDP, RCEP offers Southeast Asian nations access to streamlined trade routes and reduced tariffs, which could boost intra-regional trade with China by up to 10% over the next five years. Projections suggest that China will further invest in ASEAN’s digital economy and infrastructure, aligning with global sustainability trends and the region’s digital transformation goals.

However, as China deepens its economic ties, Southeast Asia is also exploring diversification in its export markets. With an expected 5.5% annual growth rate in Southeast Asia’s GDP through 2025, countries like Vietnam and Malaysia are expanding their trade strategies to reduce economic dependency on China. These countries are exploring new trade partnerships in Europe and North America, reflecting a cautious approach to balancing economic opportunities with China and other global players.

China’s expanding role in Southeast Asia signifies more than just a trading partnership; it embodies a symbiotic relationship that continues to evolve with mutual benefits. The region’s dependence on Chinese investment and trade links shows no signs of slowing, yet Southeast Asian nations are seeking to balance this by exploring additional economic ties globally.

Wrapped Litecoin ($WLTC) Unlocks DeFi for Litecoin ($LTC) Holders

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 12 November 2024 – Leading digital asset exchange, Coinut, is proud to announce the launch of Wrapped Litecoin ($WLTC) today, November 12. This groundbreaking development integrates Litecoin into the vibrant world of decentralized finance (DeFi) via the Ethereum network.

An ERC-20 token, $WLTC acts as a simple bridge between the Litecoin and Ethereum ecosystems. As the oldest surviving altcoin, Litecoin’s 13 years of uninterrupted network activity has earned it a reputation as one of the most trusted and active digital assets globally. Wrapped Litecoin (WLTC) is a token that is pegged 1:1 with Litecoin, meaning each WLTC is backed by an equivalent amount of Litecoin, ensuring its value remains consistent with LTC. By wrapping Litecoin, users can now take advantage of Ethereum’s extensive DeFi ecosystem without selling their LTC. This opens up a variety of decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and thus unlocks greater liquidity for user assets. The main advantages for most will be earning interest, borrowing funds, and leveraging assets in numerous DeFi protocols. WLTC can be staked, and thus earn rewards, on various Ethereum-based DeFi platforms that support staking. WLTC also opens the door to smart contracts. By standardizing Litecoin into the ERC20 format, WLTC facilitates the integration of Litecoin transfers into smart contracts. This simplifies the development of decentralized applications (DApps) and enables more efficient execution of complex transactions involving Litecoin.

“Litecoin is trusted by millions. Now, with Wrapped Litecoin, these users can access Ethereum’s ecosystem seamlessly and confidently” – Xinxi Wang, Coinut

Wrapped Litecoin benefits include:

Cross-Chain Interoperability: allowing Litecoin users to engage with Ethereum-based applications and services. In bridging between the two blockchains, Wrapped Litecoin plays an important role in enhancing Litecoin’s utility;

Access to DeFi Applications & Services: giving Litecoin holders the ability to leverage their assets in ways not native to the Litecoin blockchain, like staking, lending/borrowing and yield farming;

Enhanced Liquidity: by allowing access to ‘Litecoin’ on ETH-based decentralized exchanges (DEXs).

Coinut has partnered with Fireblocks and Coinbase to utilize third-party services for safeguarding of crypto assets, with cold wallet storage (Coinbase) for enhanced security and hot wallet storage (Fireblocks) for efficient transactions. Throughout WLTC’s development, Coinut consulted with the Litecoin Foundation – a nonprofit organization dedicated to the adoption and development of Litecoin. The Foundation is supportive of projects that bring utility to the Litecoin ecosystem and is excited about what WLTC could bring to the future of Litecoin.
