Asia expects insolvency rise as China’s economy slows

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 23 October 2024 – A rising level of insolvency risk has emerged as a major concern looking ahead for half of companies surveyed by Atradius across Asia, with widespread worries it could negatively impact B2B trade on credit. Businesses are preparing for ripple effects and payment risks, adding to further anxiety about future profitability.

At the heart of the concern is the current uncertain economic landscape, largely driven by the slowdown in China’s growth. Notably, however, the survey reveals Chinese companies show least anxiety about future insolvency risk.

This is the key finding of the 2024 Atradius Payment Practices Barometer survey across Asia (China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam).

India, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore are the markets most preoccupied about future insolvency risk but worry right across Asia reflects the view outlined by Atradius economists in the latest Insolvency report which forecasts an increase in insolvencies across Asia in 2024.

Anxiety is compounded by an already challenging credit risk environment, with late payments affecting an average 46% of B2B credit sales and bad debts standing at 4% of B2B sales invoices issued by Asian companies. Concern around business profitability thus continues to weigh heavily.

“The global economy is set to grow by 2.7% this year, but weak demand and tight credit conditions are straining businesses,” says Andreas Tesch, Chief Market Officer of Atradius.

“We expect global insolvencies to increase by 23% in 2024, and China’s current economic slowdown is raising concern about rising insolvencies among many Asian companies. This could lead to deteriorating credit quality and B2B payment behaviour in several economies across Asia.”

The complete report highlighting the findings of the 2024 edition of the Atradius Payment Practices Barometer for Asia can be found in the Publications section of Atradius website.Hashtag: #AtradiusAsia #PaymentPracticesBarometer #PaymentPractices #B2BFinance

Russian producers ready to increase fertilizer supplies to India

MOSCOW, RUSSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 23 October 2024 – Russian companies are ready to increase fertilizer supplies to India, but the EAEU and India could conclude a free trade agreement to remove existing barriers, President of the Russian Fertilizers Producers Association Andrey Guryev said, commenting the ongoing BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, held on October 22-24. The Prime Minister will engage in bilateral meetings with BRICS leaders. The summit centers on economic cooperation, digital inclusion, and financial inclusion. Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

Commenting on the meeting, President of the Russian Fertilizers Producers Association Andrey Guryev noted that since the introduction of Western sanctions, India, as a friendly nation, has increased its imports of Russian fertilizers more than any other country.

“In 2022, our fertilizer exports to India almost tripled to 4,3 million tonnes, driven largely by increased deliveries of phosphate-based fertilizers. In 2023, shipments rose by another 50 per cent, and Russia now accounts for 25 per cent of all fertilizers imported by India. Russia’s environmentally friendly fertilizers are critical to providing the world’s most populous country with safe, high-quality food”, – the RFPA head said.

Andrey Guryev stressed that Russian companies are ready to further increase supplies of mineral fertilizers to India, but capacity is currently constrained by trade barriers that raise costs for Indian consumers.

“India currently imposes a 5 per cent duty on imported mineral fertilizers. The removal of this tariff would benefit Indian farmers both in terms of reduced costs and in terms of increased access to high-performance, environmentally friendly fertilizers. We consider it expedient to intensify efforts to conclude a free-trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and India in order to eliminate this barrier”, – the RFPA head said.

SUNRATE Releases New White Paper for Travel Intermediaries at Travel Tech Asia 2024

White Paper covers practical insights for travel intermediaries to navigate the complexities of cross-border B2B travel payments

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 23 October 2024 – SUNRATE, a global payments and treasury management platform, has announced the release of a new white paper titled “Navigating the Complexities of Cross-Border B2B Travel Payments: Practical Insights for Travel Intermediaries” at Travel Tech Asia 2024, Asia’s Leading Travel Technology Trade Show.

According to Statista, the online travel market’s global revenue reached just under 600 billion U.S. dollars in 2023. This figure is expected to grow steadily in the following years, exceeding 800 billion U.S. dollars by 2028. Additionally, when breaking down global travel and tourism revenue by sales channels, the leading role played by the online market is clear, with online transactions generating over two-thirds of total sales value.

Despite the opportunities to maximise profits in a booming industry, travel intermediaries such as, Online Travel Agencies (OTAs), Travel Agencies (TAs) and Travel Management Companies (TMCs) often face high transaction costs, inefficiencies in payment processes, security concerns, cross-border payment complexities, and the need for effective working capital management. These challenges can significantly impact profitability and operational efficiency.

Additionally, in a landscape where some travel intermediaries are observed to consolidate and provide payment solutions within their ecosystems, others must carefully evaluate their choice of payment providers to ensure their operations are not jeopardised due to conflicts of interest and customer data remain secure.

Shawn Qin, Head of Card Business at SUNRATE said, “We are pleased to present this comprehensive white paper, tailored specifically for travel intermediaries. At SUNRATE, we understand the unique challenges associated with managing B2B travel payments. Our goal is to offer practical and actionable advice to streamline payment processes, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency. As an agnostic and independent payment service provider, SUNRATE is committed to protecting the interests and data of its clients”

In this white paper, SUNRATE shares the six pressing issues impacting travel intermediaries.

  1. Cross-border complexities. Dealing with multiple currencies and regulatory environments can be complex and costly for travel intermediaries. Cross-border transactions, in particular, can incur expensive processing fees and administrative costs.
  2. High transaction costs. High transaction costs associated with cross-border B2B travel payments pose a significant challenge to travel intermediaries. These costs become particularly financially burdensome due to the high volume of transactions and the multitude of foreign exchange mark-ups when facilitating payments across multiple pay-out corridors.
  3. Inefficiencies in payment processes. Traditional payment methods such as automated clearing houses (ACH), billing and settlement plans (BSP), Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC), and cash expose OTAs, TAs and TMCs to financial risks as they are slow and error prone. Many travel intermediaries still rely on outdated practices like manual data entry for invoicing and payments, or inefficient methods such as calling and faxing for direct hotel billing—both of which increase the likelihood of errors and slow down the entire payment cycle.
  4. Security concerns. Handling large volumes of financial data comes with inherent security risks, especially for travel intermediaries dealing with sensitive payment information across multiple platforms.
