Over Half of 3PL Providers to Invest in Predictive Maintenance and IoT Intelligence by 2025

ABI Research survey reveals how third-party logistics firms are prioritizing condition monitoring, AI-driven planning, and automation to stay competitive amid rising customer demands.

NEW YORK, Dec. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Third-party logistics (3PL) providers are shifting their investment strategies to focus on intelligence beyond location data. According to a recent study of global supply chain leaders conducted by ABI Research, more than half (51.3%) of 3PL respondents plan to invest over $100,000 in IoT solutions for vehicle diagnostics and predictive maintenance.

“3PL providers are increasingly expected to deliver not just visibility, but actionable intelligence into the condition and performance of goods and assets,” said Ryan Wiggin, Principal Analyst. “This is driving a wave of investment in technologies like digital twins, predictive maintenance, and advanced telematics, which can provide real-time insights and support proactive decision-making.”

Beyond condition monitoring, the report highlights that 32.9% of 3PL providers plan to invest over $250,000 in supply chain and demand planning solutions, signaling a broader shift toward data-driven logistics. Meanwhile, 18.5% of respondents are committing similar levels of investment to machine vision technologies, reflecting a growing interest in AI-powered tools for safety, asset tracking, and operational efficiency. These trends underscore increasing pressure on 3PLs to differentiate themselves in a competitive market by offering smarter, more adaptive services.

“To remain competitive, 3PL providers must go beyond traditional logistics services and embrace modular, scalable automation and advanced IoT solutions,” concluded Wiggin. “By partnering with system integrators that specialize in flexible deployments and investing in both IT and OT cybersecurity, 3PLs can meet rising customer demands for transparency, compliance, and responsiveness.”

These findings are from ABI Research’s Supply Chain Survey 2025: Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Providers report, part of the company’s Freight Transportation research service, which includes research, data, and ABI Insights.

To date, Cushman & Wakefield has advised on IPOs and subsequent expansions for 46 C-REITs, including nine of China’s twelve listed Retail REITs such as the recent IPO of CapitaLand Commercial China-REIT, reinforcing its dominant position in this evolving market.

Francis Li, International Director, Head of Capital Markets, Greater China, said, “China’s REIT market has demonstrated remarkable growth, expanding its market value by approximately 85% last year and securing a position among the top three REIT markets in Asia for the first time in 2024. However, with only four years of history, the C-REIT market remains relatively young compared to mature markets such as the U.S. and Japan, which highlights significant potential for future growth as the market matures and diversifies to include a broader range of investors and asset classes.

“The participation of individual investors will be pivotal in driving the development of the C-REIT market. With household savings in China exceeding RMB160 trillion (around US$22 trillion), there is immense opportunity to channel these funds into the REIT market. The Central Government’s 15th Five-Year Plan, which focuses on optimizing policies in education, healthcare, and social security, is expected to boost domestic consumption and enhance the overall financial market. This, in turn, will likely improve the liquidity of the C-REIT market, enabling it to play a more significant role in the recovery of China’s commercial real estate sector.”

Recent developments have demonstrated notable acceleration in market activity, particularly within the real estate (RE) C-REIT segment, which now accounts for 54% of the total issuance size. Expansion into sectors such as retail, rental housing, and logistics has been a primary driver of this growth. The retail sector, in particular, has seen 12 listings, raising a total of RMB30.3 billion. Strong secondary market performance, including a record-high premium in the book building process in 2025, reflects positive market sentiment and robust liquidity.

Chris Yang, Senior Director, Head of Valuation and Advisory Services, Beijing, and Head of China REIT Practice Group, commented, “Investors are increasingly drawn to the stable returns and diversification benefits offered by C-REITs. In a financial environment marked by decreasing risk-free rates, which have dropped close to 100 basis points in the last two years, C-REITs offer a compelling alternative. Prospectuses for RE C-REITs project an average dividend yield of 5.0% in the first year of listing, a significant spread over government bonds. This stable, income-generating characteristic is a primary draw for a wide range of investors seeking predictable cashflows.”

Retail sector assets, including shopping malls, outlets, and community commerce centers, have proven particularly attractive. Investors are showing a clear preference for mature, stable assets, focusing on key metrics that indicate long-term viability. Important factors identified by Cushman & Wakefield include asset maturity (5–10 years of operation), high occupancy rates (typically above 90%), and locations within first-tier or core second-tier cities. The remaining land use term (RLUT) is also another critical valuation factor.

Yang added “Looking ahead, the C-REIT market is poised for sustained growth and further integration into China’s broader economic strategy. It provides a crucial mechanism for deleveraging the infrastructure and commercial real estate sector, promoting sustainable urban development, and offering to the public a transparent and regulated vehicle for investing in high-quality infrastructure and commercial real estate assets. As the C-REIT market continues to evolve—highlighted by the recent announcement of asset class expansion to include Grade A office buildings and 4+ star hotels—its role in enabling efficient capital allocation and bolstering the long-term stability of China’s commercial real estate sector is poised to become even more significant.”

“DJI continues to innovate to meet industry needs. Even in the early days of aerial delivery, our advanced civilian drone technology has become the trusted solution globally for emergency response, construction, and supply chain logistics – from transporting air tanks and trash on Mount Everest to delivering emergency supplies after the devastating floods,” says Hao Jin, the Head of DJI Delivery Sales at DJI. “With the next-generation DJI FC100, we built a drone that can deliver more – in payload capacity, endurance, and safety – and support more applications across more industries.”

Greater Payload Capacity Up to 100 kg (Max Takeoff Weight Up to 170 kg )

The FC100 is designed to operate in the most challenging environments, climbing mountains and over rivers, lakes, and bays. Building on its predecessor’s coaxial four-axis, eight-blade, multi-rotor configuration, the FC100 features an optimized wing design, 62-inch carbon fiber propellers, and larger motors with more torque. With these improvements, it can carry up to 65 kg payloads for 12 km with the dual-battery configuration – a significant improvement from 30 kg. Similarly, with the emergency single-battery configuration, it can now carry up to 80 kg for 6 km, compared to 40 kg.

Ultra-Fast Charging

The FC100’s Energy System now supports ultra-fast charging with a C12000 charger or D14000iE generator. Combined with the dual battery hot-swapping and battery redundancy design, operations can continue uninterrupted. Each 41Ah battery can be heated through the DJI Battery Incubator to ensure optimal performance in cold weather. The batteries can work with various chargers indoors and outdoors.

New Flagship Winch System

The FC100 features the new Flagship Winch System, which is equipped with an electric hook for more efficient loading and unloading. The winch features a 30-meter cable, offering both automatic and manual release and retrieval options. It can also maintain a retractable speed of 1.2 m/s when handling heavy loads, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.

Improved Operational Safety for Multiple Scenarios

The FC100’s Intelligent Safety System is equipped with multiple sensors, including high-precision LiDAR for terrain mapping, millimeter-wave Radar for all-around detection, and a penta-vision system for better environmental awareness. It also features an integrated parachute that can be opened in an emergency to effectively slow down the touchdown speed to 7m/s and minimize the risk to people and property. Featuring a water- and dust-resistant IP55 rating, the FC100 can operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 40°C, withstand winds of up to 12 m/s, and fly at altitudes of up to 6,000 meters.

Stay in Control with the DJI Delivery App and the DJI DeliveryHub

The all-new DJI Delivery App enables pilots to operate the FC100 with their controller, featuring new features such as A-B Route Operation Mode and AR Display. They can also view the drone’s real-time flight status and cargo transport details from the streamlined interface. Meanwhile, DJI DeliveryHub serves as a one-stop air delivery management platform, facilitating efficient multi-platform collaboration. It supports efficient operation planning, comprehensive operation status monitoring, centralized team resource management, and data collection and analysis. FC100 can be customized to support PSDK and high-power interfaces for third-party payloads.
