Singapore parent develops AI oral examiner for PSLE students as AI becomes part of exam preparation

Built by a Singapore parent, the platform uses real-time AI conversation and parent-shared prelim themes to help students practise before the PSLE oral examinations.

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 21 August 2026 – Articulate Intelligence has launched updated PSLE English and Chinese oral examination practice tools on its AI learning platform, giving students a way to rehearse live oral conversations at home before the national examinations.

The launch comes as AI use becomes increasingly common among primary-school-aged children. National studies found that 82.6 per cent of Singaporean children aged 10 to 13 had used AI tools. With many PSLE candidates already familiar with the technology, the more relevant question is how it supports their learning—whether it simply supplies answers or helps them think and respond independently. This distinction is particularly important in oral examinations, where students must listen, formulate their own responses, elaborate and handle follow-up questions in real time.

Articulate Intelligence’s AI Oral Examiner is designed around that real-time pressure. Students first choose English or Chinese, then select a topic from a dropdown menu. The AI examiner then speaks with the student, listens to the answer, and asks follow-up questions based on what was said. If a student freezes, the system can prompt them to expand their answer, but it does not simply hand over a model response.

Ahead of the PSLE oral examinations, the platform has also added practice topics shaped by parent-shared prelim experiences. Parents shared topics their children had encountered, which Articulate Intelligence distilled into broader themes with generated images and questions for students to practise on the platform.

The platform was created by Meng Aun Tan, Founder of Articulate Intelligence, after he struggled to help his own daughter prepare for PSLE oral examinations in 2024. He later shared an early version with parents from a school volunteer group and found that many faced the same difficulty. Today, Articulate Intelligence has close to 500 users, according to company figures, with usage rising around major examination periods.

“Oral exams are not just about knowing a good answer. Students need to think while someone is waiting, respond clearly, and keep going when they are unsure,” said Meng Aun Tan, Founder, Articulate Intelligence. “I built this first for my own children because I realised that, as a parent, I could not always give useful oral exam feedback on the spot. The AI should not replace teachers or parents, but it should give students more chances to practise, so that when they meet a real examiner, the experience feels less frightening.”

The first topic is available free for users. Other topics require paid credits or a subscription. Beyond PSLE English and Chinese oral practice, Articulate Intelligence also offers AI tools for composition grading, situational writing feedback, O-Level English oral practice, and DSA interview preparation.

Parents, schools, and tuition centres can try the platform or make enquiries at (https://articulate.com.sg).

Laos Cuts 7-Day Base Interest Rate to 7% as Economic Risks Persist

A picture of Lao Kip used for illustration purpose only.

The Bank of Laos (BOL) has cut its seven-day base interest rate from 8 percent to 7 percent a year as inflation remains below the government’s 8 percent target.

The Monetary Policy Committee approved the cut at its meeting on 20 August, where it reviewed monetary policy, economic conditions, fuel prices, exchange rates and financial stability.

According to BOL, the latest decision shows continued monetary stability, with inflation remaining close to the government’s target, while the exchange rate and money supply remained within planned levels.

Inflation fell from 10.2 percent in April to 7.4 percent in June as lower fuel and transport costs and a more stable exchange rate eased pressure on consumers. But inflation edged up to 7.6 percent in July, driven mainly by surging electricity costs and continued pressure from high transport, fuel, and service prices.

Policy, Ongoing Economic Risks

The BOL will also extend foreign exchange market operating hours by one hour, from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Despite easing inflation, the central bank warned of several risks to economic stability, including slower global growth, volatile gold and oil prices, and political uncertainty in the Middle East.

Domestic challenges also remain. High demand for foreign currency to service debt, continued use of multiple currencies and other structural weaknesses are limiting the effectiveness of monetary policy, according to the BOL.

The central bank said it will continue using a mixed monetary policy approach, including tighter foreign exchange management, centralizing government deposits, improving payment systems and coordinating with other sectors on fuel supplies, imports and economic stability.

Previous Changes

The latest decision extends a series of cuts to the BOL’s seven-day base rate over the past year.

In August 2025, the central bank cut the rate from 9.5 percent to 9 percent, followed by another reduction to 8.5 percent in November 2025 as it sought to support liquidity and credit growth amid global uncertainty, exchange-rate fluctuations and weak domestic lending.

The rate was later cut to 8 percent in 2026. The BOL kept it at that level in May before reducing it again this week.

Laos Gives Unlicensed Beauty Clinics Until November to Obtain Permits Amid Weak Oversight Concerns

This photo is used for representational purpose only.

The Ministry of Health has ordered unlicensed medical and beauty facilities across Laos to obtain official permits by 30 November, but the directive has raised questions over its delayed public release and how authorities will enforce the deadline.

The Ministry issued the directive on 29 May but did not publicize it until 17 August, nearly three months later.

The notice targets a broad range of unlicensed facilities, including medical and dental clinics, plastic surgery centers, beauty centers and stem cell facilities. It says many currently operate without valid medical practice licenses, fail to meet technical standards or use misleading advertising that could endanger public health.

The directive cites the Law on Medical Treatment and covers procedures including surgery, injections, liposuction, piercing, acupuncture and stem cell treatments.

Operators already providing unlicensed services must submit documents to their provincial health department or the Vientiane Capital Health Department between 1 June and 30 November. New businesses must apply through district or provincial health offices and complete the required approval process before operating.

Questions Over Enforcement

The directive has generally received a positive response from the public, with some commenters welcoming tighter regulation of the sector.

“What a great move! This regulation should have been implemented so long ago,” one commenter wrote.

But the notice leaves several questions about enforcement unanswered.

It does not specify penalties for operators that fail to obtain a license by 30 November, such as fines, equipment confiscation, closure or criminal charges. It also does not explain what action authorities will take against clinics that continue operating without licenses after the deadline.

The timing of the announcement has also drawn criticism.

“Why do you post this so late?” one commenter asked. Another wrote, “This should have been done a long time ago; it is extremely dangerous.”

The six-month registration period also raises questions about whether unlicensed clinics can continue offering higher-risk procedures while they seek approval. The directive does not say whether facilities performing surgery, injections or other potentially dangerous treatments must suspend those services during the registration period.

Nor does it clarify whether health authorities will conduct inspections while operators are applying for licenses.

The Ministry also has not said whether it will publish a list of licensed facilities, which could help patients identify clinics that have met the required standards.

The directive marks a step toward tighter oversight of Laos’ growing medical and beauty sector, but clearer information on inspections, patient protection and enforcement could determine how effectively the new requirements are put into practice.

Objective Digital Psychological Assessment Launches in Singapore, Offering Clarity for Inattention and Hyperactivity Concerns

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 21 August 2026 – A new, scientifically proven digital assessment service is now available in Singapore, offering an objective window into psychological brain function for individuals struggling with inattention, hyperactivity and depression. Powered by the pioneering research of leading psychological scientists, the Digital Psychological Assessment continues to be conducted at iHealthtech NUS and is administered by www.objectiveADHDassessment.sg. The research team is translating years of cutting-edge research into a practical solution for the public.

For the first time, people in Asia can access a multimodal, objective assessment that moves beyond subjective questionnaires and interviews. The service leverages functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), a non-invasive and painless technology that uses weak, harmless near-infrared light to measure brain activity in the frontal and temporal lobes. This is the same technology developed and validated by a team of psychological scientists whose work has been published in academic journals, including this publication and this publication, and featured in The Straits Times.

The principal investigator, who ranks among the world’s top 1–2% most highly cited psychological scientists, developed this approach to bring objective measurement to human functioning. The technology measures oxygen levels in the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes during cognitive tasks. Combined with eye-tracking and continuous performance tests, it provides a comprehensive and objective picture of inattention and hyperactivity.

This service is invaluable for parents concerned about their child’s inattention and hyperactivity, young adults, and working professionals who have long suspected neurodivergent difficulties but have lacked clear answers. By providing measurable biomarker data, the assessment helps people understand their own brain function, leading to more targeted support and interventions.

“This field often involves assessment without objective tools,” some scientists have stated, drawing a parallel to a simple test that provides a clear indication. This breakthrough offers a definitive, data-backed path towards understanding and managing one’s challenges.

The objective assessment represents a significant step forward in psychological assessment in Asia and has the potential to be extended to children and adults globally. For many, it marks the end of a long, uncertain struggle and the beginning of a clear, science-backed journey towards greater clarity and understanding.

Akeso’s AK157D1 (B7-H3 ADC) Cleared for Phase I Trial in Solid Tumors, Adding a Third Differentiated ADC to Its Pipeline

HONG KONG, Aug. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Akeso, Inc. (9926.HK) (“Akeso” or the “Company”) today announced that its investigational next-generation B7-H3-targeting antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), AK157D1, has received clinical trial clearance from the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) of China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The clearance allows initiation of a Phase I study in patients with advanced malignant solid tumors. Development of AK157D1 in combination with Akeso’s proprietary bispecific antibodies ivonescimab and cadonilimab is also planned.

AK157D1 is the third next-generation ADC candidate from Akeso to enter clinical development, following AK146D1 (TROP2/Nectin-4 ADC) and AK138D1 (HER3 ADC). The clearance further advances the Company’s IO2.0 + ADC2.0 strategy and expands its broad innovative oncology pipeline.

B7-H3 is highly expressed in a broad range of solid tumors, including non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, prostate cancer, esophageal cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and glioblastoma, with limited expression in normal tissues. This profile supports its potential as a broad-spectrum antitumor target.

AK157D1 was developed entirely in-house and incorporates a proprietary design. In preclinical studies, it has shown potent antitumor activity together with a favorable safety profile. These attributes may help address certain limitations associated with existing ADCs, including hematologic toxicity and interstitial lung disease, and support its continued development as a potential ADC of choice in both mono or combination therapies.

Akeso is advancing its IO2.0 + ADC2.0 strategy, built on proprietary bispecific and multispecific antibody technology and centered on cornerstone IO2.0 assets including ivonescimab and cadonilimab. Through this approach, the company is elevating treatment standards for major cancers worldwide and building a broad oncology portfolio to create next-generation standard of care.

In the immuno-oncology field, Akeso has two approved bispecific antibodies for cancer treatment. The Company is actively evaluating ivonescimab and cadonilimab in combination with its proprietary next-generation ADC candidates. Increasingly, global partners recognize both ivonescimab and cadonilimab as preferred agents for combination regimens and breakthrough therapy explorations across a wide spectrum of tumor types. In the ADC space, Akeso has built a differentiated pipeline of next-generation candidates, including AK146D1 and AK138D1, which are already in clinical development, and AK157D1 and AK158D1 (a bispecific ADC), which are anticipated to enter the clinic shortly. These agents are designed to address the narrow therapeutic window and safety limitations commonly associated with first-generation ADCs.

About AK157D1

AK157D1 is a novel B7-H3-targeting ADC independently developed by Akeso. It comprises a recombinant humanized IgG1/κ monoclonal antibody site-specifically conjugated to Dxd, a camptothecin-derived topoisomerase I inhibitor, via a maleimidocaproyl-alanine-alanine-alanine (MC-AAA) linker to interchain cysteine residues. Preclinical studies have demonstrated potent antitumor activity and a favorable safety profile.

The win was driven by Sarawak’s legacy impact approach, which demonstrates how business events can be intentionally designed to create meaningful long-term outcomes beyond the event itself. By focusing on economic development, social progress, and environmental responsibility, the approach connects business events with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

This year’s recognition carries added significance as the award was determined through public nominations and voting. Public support for Sarawak reflects the growing relevance of legacy impact beyond the business events industry, showing that the value of creating meaningful, lasting outcomes is resonating with the wider community.

“Winning this award for the second time demonstrates the importance of sustainability and legacy to Sarawak’s business events strategy and wider development,” said The Honourable Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak. “Sustainability must go beyond the environment to include social and economic progress, while legacy ensures that the value created through business events can continue long after an event has ended.”

Since its first M&C Asia Stella Award victory in 2024, Sarawak has continued to advance its legacy agenda through programmes and platforms focused on education, measurement and industry participation. The focus is increasingly on embedding legacy throughout the event journey and strengthening the industry’s ability to translate intent into meaningful outcomes.

Legacy is ultimately about shaping the future together, with government, industry, organisers and communities each playing a role in creating shared and meaningful outcomes.”

“This award signals that legacy impact is gaining greater relevance, not only for Sarawak but across the Asia Pacific business events industry,” said Jason Tan Chin Foo, Chief Executive Officer of BESarawak. “Our next phase is to drive greater adoption across the ecosystem, ensuring that legacy outcomes are consistently planned, measured and demonstrated, while strengthening the industry’s capability to deliver them. That is how we turn recognition into lasting value for Sarawak.”

The M&C Asia Best Sustainability Initiative (Destination) Award 2026 marks another milestone in Sarawak’s legacy journey, strengthening its commitment to advancing legacy impact as a driver of sustainable destination development.

Blossom & Wood Media Scales Global Creator Operations with PhotonPay

HONG KONG, Aug. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — When Blossom & Wood Media says “global creators, powered by Blossom & Wood Media”, they mean it literally.

Blossom & Wood Media Scales Global Creator Operations with PhotonPay
Blossom & Wood Media Scales Global Creator Operations with PhotonPay

The agency runs local hubs in Bangkok, Jakarta, São Paulo, and Mexico City, managing an influencer network of nearly 100,000 creators across Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. At any given time, the agency coordinates multi-market campaigns — matching creators to briefs, managing tight production schedules, handling approvals, and tracking performance across platforms.

The Challenge: Aligning Financial Infrastructure with Global Scale

At Blossom & Wood Media’s scale, managing global campaign funds requires coordinating hundreds of payouts across dozens of currencies and time zones.

For the finance team, executing these disbursements through traditional banking networks created continuous friction:

  • Unpredictable Intermediary Fees: Intermediary banks frequently deducted hidden fees mid-transit, creating discrepancies between the amount sent by the agency and the net amount received by overseas creators.
  • Operational Bottlenecks: Manually processing batch transfers across disparate local payment methods consumed valuable finance bandwidth and increased administrative error rates.
  • Delayed Campaign Schedules: When creator bank details contained minor errors, resolving returned transfers required multi-party coordination between business managers, finance teams, and creators, which slowed down campaign momentum.

As Blossom & Wood Media expanded its footprint, it sought a specialized fintech partner to solve both the volume and complexity of its global capital flow.

“We needed a partner who genuinely understands overseas business models. Compliance, the ability to handle complex operational scenarios, and rapid response speed when edge cases arise were our three non-negotiables.”

— Eva Long, Co-founder of Blossom & Wood Group

Consumer Electronics in LATAM: One Campaign, Two Markets, Zero Fragmentation

Blossom & Wood Media brought PhotonPay in to manage the payment complexity that comes with running multi-market campaigns at scale. The consumer electronics vertical illustrates clearly how that works in practice.

For a consumer electronics client running concurrent campaigns across two key LATAM markets, Blossom & Wood Media built a tiered creator structure: vertical creators in tech and fitness for product demonstrations, and crossover creators in streetwear, entertainment, and anime to reach broader youth audiences. One market alone generated close to 3 million content impressions, with the overall CPM held below $10.

Behind those results was a disbursement operation involving multiple creator cohorts, two separate market budgets, and staggered payment timelines running in parallel. Using PhotonPay’s multi-currency accounts and batch payment tools, Blossom & Wood Media consolidated disbursements for both markets into a single management flow. Payments were batched by cohort and campaign phase, fees were transparent and predictable, and reconciliation was tied directly to campaign milestones, so finance always had a clear view of which payments belonged to which market and which phase, without piecing together separate processes manually.

Short Drama Goes Global: Production Payments and Flexible Settlements

Blossom & Wood Media has built significant capability in short-form drama. These projects move fast: local casting, on-the-ground production crews, and post-production partners may be spread across several countries, with tight delivery windows from pre-production through final delivery.

Blossom & Wood Media uses PhotonPay to handle project-level disbursements — payments to local production teams, actors, and collaborators across markets, managed in batches with full reconciliation visibility. Payment details are verified before disbursement, and when exceptions do arise, PhotonPay’s team resolves them quickly enough that they rarely affect the production schedule.

Furthermore, in high-growth markets like Latin America, local currency volatility and banking restrictions lead some clients to settle campaign and media buying budgets (for TikTok and Meta ad spend) in USDT or other stablecoins.

To accommodate client preferences without creating accounting friction, Blossom & Wood Media leverages PhotonPay’s multi-asset wallet and conversion capabilities. PhotonPay helps accept stablecoins from clients and seamlessly converts digital assets into USD or other fiat currencies.

What Made PhotonPay the Right Fit

PhotonPay’s global infrastructure aligns directly with Blossom & Wood Media’s localized corporate structure:

  • End-to-End Local Collection & Payouts: With support for over 19 local accounts and direct access to local clearing rails across 113 regions, PhotonPay enables clients to collect funds and pay global creators locally, eliminating unnecessary FX markups and multi-hop intermediary deductions.
  • Automated Batch Processing & Reconciliation: Transparent fee structures reduce payment discrepancies, allowing finance teams to upload mass payout files and reconcile campaign budgets automatically.
  • Dedicated Exception Management: When account details need correction, PhotonPay’s 24/7 dedicated support team resolves exceptions rapidly, protecting fixed campaign delivery schedules.
  • Enterprise-Grade Compliance: PhotonPay maintains financial licenses across major global jurisdictions. Its infrastructure features SOC 2 Type I attestation, full Travel Rule enforcement, real-time AI transaction screening, and strict data protection protocols.

“The next round of competition will be won by whoever can make their money and operations truly local, not just their content. We’ve built local entities and local settlement capabilities across multiple markets. That’s where the industry is heading, and we need our payments infrastructure to move at that exact same pace.”

— Eva Long, Co-founder of Blossom & Wood Group

In an era when global growth demands seamless localization, money movement must evolve alongside creative execution. Together, Blossom & Wood Media and PhotonPay are bridging this gap by co-architecting a flexible, borderless financial network that unlocks access to emerging markets, accommodates evolving payment preferences, and shapes the future of global creator commerce.
