Employment Hero CEO Ben Thompson wins Technology category at EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Australia awards awards

SYDNEY, Oct. 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Ben Thompson, CEO and Co-Founder of Employment Hero, the global authority on employment, has been named Technology category winner at the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Australia awards, recognising his leadership in building one of Australia’s most successful technology companies and transforming how people work.

“This recognition belongs to the team. They’ve driven our mission with me from day one: to make employment easier and more valuable for everyone on earth. It’s a huge privilege to serve small businesses. They’re under recognised for their contributions globally but we’re very proud to champion them,” said Thompson.

EY’s program, now in its 25th year in Australia, honours founders who drive progress through purpose, growth and impact. These principles have guided Employment Hero since its inception. What began as a vision to simplify employment for small business owners has grown into a global Employment Operating System that helps companies hire anywhere, pay anytime and engage everyone.

Today, more than 350,000 businesses and 2.5 million employees across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK and Canada use Employment Hero. The platform gives small and medium-sized businesses access to tools once reserved for large enterprises.

In 2025, Employment Hero surpassed A$300 million in annual recurring revenue and achieved EBITDA profitability. The company also launched a two-way talent marketplace, and expanded EH Work, an employee superapp that brings career management and financial wellbeing together.

Before launching Employment Hero in 2014, Thompson worked as an employment lawyer, witnessing how small businesses struggled with compliance and administration. That experience sparked the idea for a single digital platform to manage HR, payroll, recruitment and engagement.

Thompson added “I would like to congratulate Laurent Boillon for being named EY Entrepreneur of the Year, and all category winners. Entrepreneurship is critical to Australia’s prosperity, I’m grateful to EY, the judges and this year’s inspiring finalists who continue to push what’s possible in the technology and founder ecosystem.

The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ program has recognised exceptional founders for more than 25 years in Australia and over 60 countries worldwide. The program celebrates entrepreneurs who inspire innovation, create jobs and drive inclusive economic growth.

Travel Giant Tiket.com Eyes Collaboration in Laos, Cambodia

UPDATED on 19 October at 12:54 PM

Jakarta-based online travel platform Tiket.com is exploring opportunities for collaboration and partnership in Laos and Cambodia as part of a broader effort to strengthen its presence across Southeast Asia.

While some reports suggested an imminent market entry, the company clarified that it is not launching operations in either country at this stage. Currently, Tiket.com’s platform already lists hotels and flights in Laos and Cambodia, allowing users to book accommodation and travel within both destinations.

Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer Gaery Undarsa said that Tiket.com views Southeast Asia as a single, integrated travel market and remains open to future expansion based on a deeper understanding of local consumer behavior and market dynamics.

Undarsa acknowledged that the smaller size of Laos’ online travel market presents distinct challenges. With only 40–50 percent of the population regularly booking travel online, initial investments in localized platforms may not immediately yield proportional returns.

To address these hurdles, Tiket.com plans to implement targeted strategies focused on local transport options, including bus services, as well as activities and events tailored to each market.

Founded in 2011, Tiket.com now serves over 50 million users and is connected to global travel networks, offering flight bookings, hotel accommodations, and activity packages across multiple countries.

The company’s growing focus on collaboration across the region reflects the expanding role of digital travel platforms in Southeast Asia and the potential for emerging markets like Laos and Cambodia to play a larger part in the regional tourism economy.

The continued integration of MOPA fiber lasers and desktop CO2 laser cutters into workshops and educational spaces demonstrates how laser technology is shaping the future of accessible, high-precision design.

Encouraging Creative Use and Accessibility

The Halloween event also reflects broader developments in digital fabrication and localized production. As engraving tools become more user-friendly, they are increasingly used across creative, educational, and industrial sectors. Advances in control software, material compatibility, and compact engineering have opened new opportunities for individuals and small enterprises to adopt professional engraving systems without large-scale infrastructure.

The Halloween event is designed to make professional engraving tools more accessible while keeping the experience fun, said Monport CEO. It’s seeing growing interest from small business owners and creative professionals who want reliable, high-precision tools without the high entry cost.

How to Participate

Participants can visit Monport’s official website to explore eligible products and learn more about the hidden reward system. By locating the Halloween icon on select product pages, users can reveal weekly offers and apply corresponding codes during checkout. PETRA Congratulates Malaysian Organisations Recognised at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 17 October 2025 – The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the 16 Malaysian organisations recognised at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2025. Their achievements underscore Malaysia’s strong commitment to advancing sustainable energy practices and strengthening regional leadership in the clean energy transition.

Organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), the AEA is the region’s highest recognition of excellence in sustainable energy. Presented annually during the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM), the awards celebrate innovation, efficiency, and leadership in driving sustainable growth and resilience across ASEAN.

This year, 25 Malaysian organisations were nominated through the National Energy Awards (NEA) — the country’s flagship initiative honouring best practices in energy management, efficiency, and renewable energy.

Among the winners, CSC Steel Sdn Bhd received top honours in the Large Industry (Energy Management System) category, while Primetech Engineers Sdn Bhd was recognised in the Large Green Building category.

Collectively, the 16 Malaysian winners of AEA 2025 have achieved remarkable results — reducing carbon emissions by nearly 72 million tonnes annually, generating 7.6 MW of renewable power through efficiency and clean energy initiatives, and achieving an average energy savings of 23.7% across diverse sectors. These outcomes highlight Malaysia’s leadership in sustainability, energy performance, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

These accomplishments are aligned with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the nation’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, which chart Malaysia’s path towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. At the regional level, such recognitions contribute to advancing the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) — the blueprint guiding Southeast Asia’s collective energy security, transition, and sustainability agenda.

PETRA emphasises that Malaysia’s continued progress in renewable energy and energy efficiency is made possible through close collaboration between the government, industry, and communities. The Ministry reaffirms that these partnerships will remain crucial in scaling solutions that deliver both environmental and socioeconomic benefits.

The ASEAN Energy Awards also serve as a platform to showcase Malaysian innovation to a regional audience and to promote knowledge-sharing across ASEAN, inspiring further efforts toward sustainability and inclusive growth.

Looking ahead, PETRA encourages more Malaysian organisations to participate in the National Energy Awards (NEA) and represent Malaysia at ASEAN and international platforms. The Ministry remains committed to supporting initiatives that drive environmental stewardship, strengthen energy security, and foster sustainable economic growth — ensuring Malaysia continues to play a leading role in ASEAN’s journey towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
