HONG KONG, Sept. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — ICAC Commissioner, Mr Woo Ying-ming, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the President of Integrity Authority of Hungary at the opening ceremony of the tenth Belt and Road (B&R) Summit on Wednesday (September 10) to enhance collaboration and exchange in graft fight. The MoU was signed following a bilateral meeting between the two agencies earlier this week. President of the Hungarian Integrity Authority, Mr Ferenc Pál Biró, and his delegation were received by Mr Woo and ICAC senior directorates. They exchanged views about the anti-corruption regimes of the two places, shared graft-fighting experience and the latest anti-corruption initiatives at the bilateral meeting.
“The signing of the MoU marks the ICAC’s on-going effort to expand its international graft-fighting network in Europe under the Country’s B&R Initiative. Leveraging Hong Kong’s unique role as a ‘super connector’ between the Mainland and the global community under the “one country, two systems” principle, the ICAC will strive to showcase anti-corruption stories of the Country and those of Hong Kong to the world, and at the same time deepen anti-graft collaboration. A fair and corruption-free business environment is crucial for promoting sustainable high-quality development. The ICAC will continue to join hands with international counterparts to co-build a “Clean Silk Road”,” Mr Woo added.
Under the framework of the MoU, the ICAC and the Integrity Authority of Hungary would strengthen exchanges about anti-corruption experience, conduct seminars, conferences and/or workshops for sharing graft fighting experience, organise joint initiatives to promote integrity in the public and private sectors, and provide assistance in relation to corruption prevention etc.
Including Hungary, the ICAC has entered into nine MoUs with overseas anti-corruption agencies and international organisations since last year to foster international anti-corruption collaboration.

Laos is urging ASEAN member states to ramp up investment in Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA), calling them powerful tools for protecting forests, strengthening communities, and tackling climate change head-on.
Delivering the message at the 28th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry in Luang Prabang on 6 July, Somwang Phimmavong, Director General of the Department of Forestry, warned of mounting threats to the region’s forests, including deforestation, ecological degradation, illegal logging, and land use change.
He stressed that without sustainable financing, efforts to implement NbS and EbA will fall short.
To illustrate Laos’ own approach, Somwang pointed to the country’s promotion of Payments for Forest Ecosystem Services (PfES), which help preserve forest areas while boosting local livelihoods. He also highlighted sustainable tourism as a practical way to balance income generation with biodiversity protection.
Building on this, he urged ASEAN countries to share proven financing models—such as PfES, carbon markets, pooled funds, and multi-sector partnerships – to drive greater investment in nature-based climate and conservation efforts.
With roughly 70 percent of Laos’ land classified as state forest and home to around 3,000 villages, the country stands among the world’s top ten in biodiversity richness.

World Bank Laos – A decision announced today by the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will promote nature-based tourism in forested areas of Laos.
The regulation provides incentives for small-scale private investment in national parks and protected areas through projects that create jobs, contribute to environmental preservation and build economic partnerships with communities.
The Decision on Tourism in Forest Areas is supported by a World Bank-financed business leveraging facility to attract investors from registered micro, small, and medium enterprises. The facility will provide tourism companies with advisory services on product development, training on nature-based tourism requirements, and funding for small public infrastructure, marketing, and other aspects of tourism development.
“The Lao PDR is developing sustainable private sector–driven nature-based tourism as one of the pillars of the next National Socio-Economic Plan and its National Green Growth Strategy,” said Kikeo Singnavong, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.
“Carefully regulated tourism development can bring great benefits in both employment and income generation for local people in forested areas, providing an economic incentive for them to conserve biodiversity and natural beauty.”

The business leveraging facility, part of the World Bank supported Lao Landscapes and Livelihoods project, provides three types of financing: for planning and feasibility work, challenge funds that target priority investment in particular areas, and matching funds for product development and marketing work.
Interested companies will be able to apply through prospectuses prepared by the Department of Forestry for each of the five national parks (Hin Nam No, Nam Et-Phou Louey, Nakai-Nam Theun, Phou Hin Poun, and Phou Khao Khouay) and three protected areas (Khoun Xe Nong Ma, Laving Lavern, and Yord Nam Mo-Phou Sam Soum).

Also attending the announcement were representatives and residents of the national parks and protected areas, related government agencies, and Inthy Deuansavanh, president of the Lao Tourism Association, who detailed some of the investment opportunities available in the eight protected areas.
The World Bank estimates that nature-based tourism could grow to provide about 10% of GDP and 10 percent of jobs in Laos.
This project aims to create job opportunities for 75,000 women alone.

To address the future need for Alzheimer’s disease prevention and treatment in Hong Kong, the research team explored non-pharmacological physical therapies. Using a TgCRND8 transgenic mouse model, they conducted a 28-day irradiation experiment with eefit far infrared light (FIR, wavelength range of 4-20μm) to evaluate its effectiveness in improving disease pathology. The study found:
Improved cognitive function: The FIR-treated mice group showed significant improvement in cognitive function and memory during the Morris Water Maze Test (MWMT).
Aβ deposition suppression:Decreased Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio in the cortex, reduced plaque deposits, and increased Aβ clearance.
Tau protein hyperphosphorylation inhibition: Significantly reduced tau protein phosphorylation levels at different sites, such as Thr205, Ser36, etc., and reduced the formation of neurofibrillary tangles.
Dual-pathway mechanism: Suppression of neuroinflammatory pathways (reduced IL-1β, TNF-α and increased IL-4) and activation of antioxidant pathways (enhanced Nrf2/HO-1 pathway), achieving dual-pathway protection.
Using a transgenic mouse model, this study confirms for the first time thateefit far infrared technology can simultaneously reduce Aβ deposition and tau protein hyperphosphorylation through physical intervention. Previous studies have only focused on single-pathology interventions, making the significance of this study on the dual-pathway improvement effect groundbreaking.

While many children still associate heroism with beloved Disney characters (44%), a new study exploring modern-day heroism polling 2,000 UK parents and children aged 5–11 reveals a broader shift: Brits are just as likely to see heroic qualities in real people around them as they are in films and TV (66%).
When asked to identify the most important traits of a hero, children chose bravery (57%), helping others (44%) and kindness (28%), placing these above more traditional traits like strength (41%) and speed (18%). Commissioned by Disney On Ice in anticipation of its new tour, Disney On Ice presents Find Your Hero, the research uncovers how families define heroism in 2025.
More than half of children associated the word hero with ‘superheroes’ (57%), with Disney characters following closely (44%). However they also looked closer to home, with over a third (39%) of kids connecting the word ‘hero’ to parents or caregivers, and 35% to emergency service workers. Teachers (24%) were cited far more often than celebrities and influencers (9%), and only 16% said they find heroes on social media.
Regardless of age, Disney continued to inspire parents with the meaning of true heroism with eight in ten of them still believing that Disney characters help to teach what it means to be a hero (81%). When asked to name the most heroic Disney character, Moana came out on top among children (22%) for her bravery and determination, while Elsa came in second.
