Emaar Properties exits the JV structure for The Eighth Gate, Damascus

  • A Renewed Commitment to Syria’s Future, Rooted in Decades of Trust

DUBAI, UAE, May 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Emaar Properties PJSC (DFM: EMAAR), one of the world’s most valuable and admired real estate developers, today announced that it is in the process of exiting the JV structure relating to The Eighth Gate, its landmark mixed-use development in Yafour, Damascus, marking a decisive new chapter in Emaar’s long-standing relationship with Syria. It will be operating in the Country without any partner.

The Eighth Gate was conceived in 2005 as Syria’s first master-planned community — a US$500 million integrated development spanning commercial, retail, hospitality, and residential zones across 300,000 square metres in Yafour, 22 kilometres from the heart of Damascus.

This transition reflects Emaar’s enduring confidence in Syria’s economic resurgence and the transformative potential of The Eighth Gate for the country’s-built environment. By moving unaided, the Company will be able to ensure The Eighth Gate is delivered to the uncompromising standards that define Emaar developments worldwide. The project will also benefit from the same operational rigour and design philosophy that has shaped iconic destinations including Downtown Dubai, Dubai Hills Estate, and Emaar Beachfront.

Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar Properties, said: “Our decision to exit the JV structure of The Eighth Gate is a statement of our unwavering belief in Syria and its people. Emaar was built on the conviction that great cities deserve great communities — and Damascus is one of the greatest cities in the world.”

The Eighth Gate holds deep significance in the national imagination. Named in homage to Damascus’s legendary seven ancient gates, the enduring symbols of a civilisation that welcomed the world, the project aspires to be a modern eighth gateway: one that honours Syria’s extraordinary heritage while opening the country to a new era of growth, commerce, and community.

Bupa Hong Kong Launches “Bupa Care Bridge”, an Affordable Health Insurance Solution Designed for Cross‑border Living

New medical plan combines cashless inpatient protection across Hong Kong and Mainland China with embedded outpatient and preventive care in Hong Kong

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 18 May 2026 – Bupa Hong Kong today announced the launch of Bupa Care Bridge Health Insurance Scheme, a new medical insurance solution designed to support Hong Kong residents whose lives increasingly span Hong Kong and Mainland China, and who are seeking affordable, practical health protection that covers both major medical events and everyday healthcare needs.

Bupa Hong Kong Launches Bupa Care Bridge as an Affordable Health Insurance Solution for Cross-border Living
Bupa Hong Kong Launches Bupa Care Bridge as an Affordable Health Insurance Solution for Cross-border Living

Cross‑border healthcare has become a growing reality for many Hong Kong people. In 2024 alone, Hong Kong residents made approximately 700,000 medical visits in Shenzhen, reflecting rising familiarity with receiving medical services across the border for efficiency, convenience and follow‑up care. At the same time, most continue to rely on Hong Kong for routine outpatient consultations, ongoing care and long‑term health management.

Bupa Care Bridge is designed around this reality. The scheme provides inpatient coverage across Hong Kong and Mainland China, while anchoring outpatient and preventive care in Hong Kong, where everyday healthcare is most frequently accessed. Designed with affordability in mind, the scheme offers two plan levels and flexible deductible options that allow customers to balance premium levels with the degree of protection they need, making the plan relevant to young adults, cross‑border professionals and retirees, including those managing healthcare costs over the long term.

Rather than positioning outpatient care as an optional add-on, Bupa Care Bridge embeds outpatient services within the medical plan itself, helping customers manage everyday healthcare costs more predictably while maintaining comprehensive inpatient protection.

Key features of Bupa Care Bridge include:

  • Cashless inpatient care at designated hospitals, subject to pre-authorisation, with entitlement to standard private room accommodation in Mainland China and semi-private room accommodation in Hong Kong, providing greater certainty and comfort during hospital stays.
  • Inpatient coverage across Mainland China or Greater China (Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China and Taiwan), based on plan level, with worldwide coverage for emergency treatment to support major medical needs wherever they arise.
  • Embedded outpatient care in Hong Kong, supporting everyday healthcare needs and follow-up care outside hospital settings (only applicable to Bupa Care Bridge Health Insurance Scheme Plus Plan). Covered services include general practitioner and specialist consultations, traditional Chinese medicine, physiotherapy, and X-ray and laboratory tests.
  • Clear, predictable co‑payments for outpatient services, helping customers manage routine healthcare costs — with GP consultations from HK$40 per visit, specialist consultations from HK$60 per visit, and defined co‑payments for other outpatient services.
  • Simplified underwriting with a streamlined health questionnaire, reducing friction at enrolment.
  • Guaranteed lifetime renewal, providing long‑term certainty as healthcare needs evolve.
  • Care coordination support for cross-border hospital treatment, including assistance with arranging transportation at discharge from hospital to home in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

The scheme also supports preventive care, offering access to health check‑ups to encourage early detection and ongoing health monitoring, helping customers take a more proactive approach to managing their health rather than reacting only when serious illness occurs.

By combining affordable everyday outpatient care in Hong Kong with cashless inpatient protection across borders, Bupa Care Bridge supports both short‑term healthcare needs and longer‑term health planning in a more connected region.

Bupa Care Bridge Health Insurance Scheme is now available for enrolment. For more information, please visit www.bupa.com.hk/en/care-bridge.

Under the MOU, V-GREEN and the Provincial Government of Bataan will collaborate on the planning, deployment, and operation of a province-wide EV charging network. This network will cover one city and 11 municipalities, positioning Bataan as a leading model for EV adoption in the Philippines.

MEXC Launches AI Strategy, Advancing Its End-to-End AI Trading Ecosystem

VICTORIA, Seychelles, May 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — MEXC, a pioneer in 0-fee digital asset trading, has completed a comprehensive AI product upgrade with the official launch of the industry’s first fully free and open trading agent: AI Strategy. This marks the evolution of MEXC AI from a decision-support tool into an autonomous trading agent capable of understanding user intent and independently executing trades, creating a complete end-to-end trading workflow.

MEXC Launches AI Strategy, Advancing Its End-to-End AI Trading Ecosystem
MEXC Launches AI Strategy, Advancing Its End-to-End AI Trading Ecosystem

In traditional trading, every step, from identifying opportunities to executing trades, requires manual involvement, making the process both time-consuming and highly susceptible to emotional decision-making. MEXC AI Strategy redefines this workflow. Users simply express their ideas, while the AI handles intent analysis, strategy generation, continuous market monitoring, and automated execution. MEXC AI Strategy offers three key highlights:

Generate Complex Strategies with Natural Language

Users no longer need quantitative trading expertise or coding skills. By simply chatting with MEXC AI, they can create personalized trading strategies tailored to their own preferences. The system supports not only common technical indicators, but also complex conditional strategies across multiple platforms and data sources. For example, users can set instructions such as: “Go long when ETH breaks out of a bilateral pattern, with an 8% take-profit target,” or “Go long when Elon Musk posts on X and the token price rises.” The AI can automatically understand the intent and generate the corresponding strategy.

Real-Time Social Media Monitoring to Capture Opportunities Faster

In news-driven markets, information asymmetry often determines profit and loss. MEXC AI Strategy can monitor real-time signals from social platforms such as X, continuously tracking influential figures and market sentiment. Strategies can be triggered within seconds after relevant events occur, helping users seize market opportunities at the earliest possible moment.

24/7 Automated Market Monitoring, Free for Everyone

Powered by integration with leading AI models, MEXC AI Strategy continuously monitors and executes trades around the clock, allowing users to stay active in the market without constantly watching charts. The feature is also fully open and free to use, enabling anyone to access AI-powered automated trading with zero barriers to entry.

For detailed guides and FAQs, please visit MEXC Learn.

With this latest upgrade, the MEXC AI product ecosystem has become even more comprehensive. The platform’s Smart Chart displays AI-powered price predictions, probability-of-rise indicators, and upcoming event alerts directly beneath candlestick charts, transforming market analysis that users previously had to piece together themselves into structured, actionable insights. The AI Consultant provides personalized recommendations based on users’ actual portfolio positions, while AI Strategy converts users’ market views directly into executable strategies and automated orders. Together, the three features cover the complete trading workflow: from discovery to analysis and finally to execution.

Vugar Usi, CEO of MEXC, said:

“Zero-fee trading removed the cost barrier to trading, while MEXC AI is removing an even more critical barrier: execution. While much of the industry focuses AI capabilities on professional infrastructure, MEXC has chosen to start from the real workflows of everyday traders, truly understanding user intent and helping them execute more efficiently. The goal of MEXC AI is to ensure that every opportunity users recognize can actually be captured, delivering on our promise of “Infinite Opportunities.”

In the first quarter of 2026, MEXC AI-related features recorded approximately 140,000 daily active users, while cumulative quarterly active users surpassed 1.04 million, reflecting growing market demand for AI-powered trading assistance tools. Thai Officers Seize 130 Kilograms of Ivory at Mekong River Bound for Laos

Thai authorities seized over 150 kilograms of ivory and animal remains in Nong Khai during a wildlife smuggling operation bound for Laos. 16 May 2026. (Photo: Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation)

On 16 May, Thai authorities seized over 150 kilograms of ivory and animal remains along the Mekong River in Nong Khai, stopping a cross-border smuggling attempt into Laos’ capital Vientiane.

According to Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, officers found abandoned sacks on the riverside containing 22 pieces of cut ivory weighing 130.9 kilograms and unidentified animal skeletal remains weighing 29 kilograms, all packed and ready for a boat crossing into Laos.

The police couldn’t identify the suspects.

The raid was linked to the arrest of a 50-year-old Lao woman on the same day in Loei Province. The evidence, one live monitor lizard alongside two bags each of chopped monitor lizard and suspected wild boar meat, indicates both operations share a single cross-border trafficking network.

Thai authorities promptly shared details of both incidents with Lao counterparts through a joint emergency wildlife communication channel, pushing for both sides to go after the people funding the operation.

The Nong Khai raid is part of a wider problem along the Mekong, according to Thailand’s wildlife conservation authority. Earlier in January 2026, officers in Bueng Kan Province stopped a long-tail boat coming from Laos and found 55 ivory tusks weighing 169 kilograms in plastic bags left on the riverbank. Two local men, aged 18 and 21, were arrested after being paid THB 200 (around USD 5.70) per bag to carry the goods ashore.

Both now face charges of possessing protected wildlife products and smuggling.

Under Thai law, anyone caught handling ivory without a permit faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to THB 1 million (around USD 30,600), or both.
