Mastering exotic currency pairs: trading strategies with global broker Octa

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 14 November 2024 – Adding exotic currency pairs to a portfolio is a popular way to get exposed to a wider variety of assets. These pairs, which include currencies from emerging markets or smaller economies, offer unique opportunities due to their volatility and potential for high returns. For traders in regions like India and Southeast Asia, exotic pairs can serve as valuable tools for diversification, potentially increasing returns from trading. Octa Broker, a broker with globally recognised licences, explains the basics of exotic pairs and provides tips on how to navigate such a dynamic landscape, where understanding volatility and managing risk is paramount.

Octa

Key characteristics of exotic currency pairs

Exotic currency pairs differ from major and cross pairs in several ways, each presenting opportunities as well as challenges for traders.

Higher spreads and lower liquidity
Exotic pairs tend to have wider spreads due to lower trading volumes and reduced liquidity. For instance, the USD/ZAR pair frequently experiences a spread of 100 pips or more, driven by its less active market presence. This wide spread is a broker’s commission for facilitating trades in less liquid markets, and it requires traders to account for this in their profit calculations to avoid unanticipated losses.

Octa

Volatility and economic sensitivity
Some exotic pairs exhibit strong trending behaviour, with notable examples like the USD/MXN (U.S. Dollar / Mexican Peso) pair. The USD/MXN pair often responds dynamically to economic factors, particularly commodity prices. As Mexico is a major oil exporter, fluctuations in oil prices can significantly impact the Peso’s value against the dollar.

Octa

While exotic currency pairs present exciting opportunities, a deep understanding of market drivers is essential when handling them. Traders must keep track of both local economic conditions and global trends to make informed decisions.

Kar Yong Ang, a financial market analyst at Octa broker, provides a glimpse into factors affecting the USD/MXN pair: ‘Currently, Mexico is experiencing a trade deficit, indicating that its imports exceed exports, which can place downward pressure on the peso and contribute to its weakening. Additionally, market participants are cautious about a potential U.S. recession, leading to an increased demand for the dollar as a safe-haven asset.’ This scenario demonstrates how closely linked economic developments are to the performance of exotic currency pairs, underscoring the importance of staying informed on both local and international factors when trading these pairs.

Strategies for trading exotic currency pairs

Exotic pairs demand a solid grasp of market conditions and robust risk management strategies. For beginners, using a smaller portion of their capital and setting realistic profit goals is essential. For example, they might start by trading small lot sizes in USD/ZAR and adjusting their stop-loss orders to manage risk in the face of potential large price movements. Here’s an example of fundamental and technical analysis a trader can make before opening a deal.

USD/ZAR (U.S. Dollar / South African Rand)
The USD/ZAR pair is influenced by South Africa’s economic conditions, political stability, and the fluctuating value of its key export, gold. With South Africa being a major gold producer, the currency often correlates with gold and platinum prices. When gold prices rise, the Rand typically strengthens, creating opportunities for traders who monitor commodity price movements closely.

Octa

Suppose a trader uses the Bollinger Bands indicator to identify buying and take-profit opportunities on USD/ZAR. Entering at 18.00 ZAR and exiting when it hits 18.80 ZAR, the trader secures an 8,000-pip profit, accounting for the 773-pip spread: the 8,000-pip difference excludes the spread. Normally, the spread is less than 100 pips, so the profit is secured. However, even in exceptional cases when the spread is higher, a trader can still seal a successful deal. This scenario highlights both the potential for profit and the importance of factoring in spread and volatility in trading strategies.

Advantages and risks of trading exotic currency pairs

Benefits of diversification
Adding exotic pairs to a portfolio can diversify risk due to the low correlation of these pairs with traditional assets like stocks and bonds, as well as major currency pairs. Since the exotic pairs include a popular currency and the one from a developing country, the determining factors that affect the price significantly differ from those impacting major pairs. This allows for a different set of trading opportunities.

Risks to consider
The high volatility and wide spreads of exotic pairs mean that traders must exercise caution. Without proper risk assessment, trading exotics can lead to significant losses. Monitoring local economic indicators and staying informed about global events are crucial for traders who wish to navigate these challenges successfully.

Exotic currency pairs offer intriguing opportunities for traders looking to explore beyond conventional assets. With their high volatility, unique correlation patterns, and sensitivity to both local and global factors, exotics provide an alternative avenue for diversification. By staying informed and applying sound strategies, traders can leverage the potential of exotic pairs while mitigating the associated risks.

Worksport ($WKSP) Reports Significant 581% YoY Revenue Growth in Q3 2024, Eyes Record 2025

Company Announces Consecutive Surge in Quarterly Revenues; Provides Positive Outlook for Fiscal Year 2025; Ongoing Expansion and New Product Lines Fuel Momentum

West Seneca, New York – Newsfile Corp. – November 13, 2024 – Worksport Ltd. (NASDAQ: WKSP) (“Worksport” or the “Company”), a U.S.-based manufacturer and innovator of hybrid and clean energy solutions for the light truck, overlanding, and global consumer goods sectors today announced its Q3 2024 financial results. Worksport shares another consecutive quarter of revenue growth and positive outlook for financial year-end 2025.

Q3 revenue surged to $3.12 million-a 581% year-over-year increase compared to $458,433 in Q3 2023. This rapid growth reflects continued scaling of both B2B and B2C channels and the growing demand for Worksport’s innovative products. Following a 275% revenue increase from Q1 to Q2 2024, Q3 revenue grew another 63% from Q2 2024, underscoring the strength of the Company’s strategic investments and the success of its recent sales initiatives. Worksport believes it will exceed previous financial guidance of $6-8M by year-end 2024, and below issues guidance for year-end 2025.

Steven Rossi, Worksport’s Founder & CEO, stated:

“Our Q3 results are just the beginning. With our robust product pipeline and aggressive market penetration strategies, we are on a trajectory for sustained growth. Our goal is to become cash flow positive in 2025, with a keen focus on EPS and EBITA. We are targeting revenue growth to $25-$34.5 million in 2025. We are excited about the significant impact our products, including the AL4 tonneau cover, SOLIS solar cover, and COR portable energy system, are expected to have as we enter next year.”

Upcoming Products & Strategic Path to Profitability:

Worksport continues to expand its production capacity and expects to meet its next production target of making over 200 tonneau covers per day within 2025. This increase in capacity should enable the Company to meet growing demand while notably increasing margins, driven by new high-demand, high-margin product lines. In Q3, the Company maintained an inventory balance of $6.1 million, strategically positioned to support sustained revenue growth without the need for major capital investments. The Company believes it can increase its ability to produce beyond 200 covers without significant time or capital investment.

Additional Highlights Include:

  • B2C Sales Growth: Online sales increased from $21,599 in Q3 2023 to $1.59 million in Q3 2024, now making up 51% of total revenue.
  • Government Sales Traction: Worksport initiated sales to a U.S. government agency, positioning itself for potential future business development.
  • New Product Launches: The highly anticipated AL4 tonneau cover is set to debut in Q4 this year and is expected to contribute significantly to revenue growth in 2025, while the SOLIS and COR products are in Alpha testing, with a full market launch slated for Q2/Q3 next year.

Strategic Market Position and Forward Guidance

Worksport expects to exceed its previously issued revenue guidance of $6-8 million by year-end 2024.

Worksport’s growth is underpinned by its diversified portfolio, intellectual property, team experience, and its newly launched online presence. With the pickup truck market continuing to lead vehicle sales and Worksport’s first-to-market solar-integrated tonneau cover SOLIS on the horizon, the Company believes it is well-positioned to capture market share in both the automotive accessory and clean energy sectors. Complemented by the COR portable energy system, Worksport’s growth potential continues to become strong in 2025 and beyond.

For 2025, Worksport projects its existing product lines to generate $20 million in revenue, with new product launches, including its AL4 cover and COR and SOLIS systems, contributing up to an additional $18.5 million. Depending on timing and circumstances, these projections lead to a robust revenue outlook ranging from $25 million to $34.5 million in 2025, a pivotal year anticipated to drive Worksport towards cash flow positivity.

CGTN:G20 pushes for global cooperation to eradicate hunger and poverty

BEIJING, CHINA – Media OutReach Newswire – 13 November 2024 – The first-ever Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty will be officially launched at the upcoming 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, marking a further step towards the goal of eliminating extreme hunger worldwide by the United Nations’ 2030 deadline.

The nascent initiative was pre-launched by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the Ministerial Meeting of the G20 Task Force in July 2024. The idea for this initiative was proposed at the previous G20 summit by Lula, who stated that eradicating hunger and poverty is one of the three central tasks of Brazil’s G20 presidency.

Image 1

Due to factors ranging from natural disasters to regional conflicts, the poverty issue has become increasingly noticeable in recent years. Between 713 and 757 million people may have faced hunger in 2023, meaning one in every 11 people in the world, according to the annual report on the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World released by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization in July.

The report highlights a clear trend of rising undernourishment in Africa, while progress is being made in Latin America and the Caribbean. It also showed that the prevalence of undernourishment in Brazil fell to 3.9 percent in 2023, marking the first year of Lula’s new administration.

At the ministerial meeting, Lula stated that nothing in the 21st century is as absurd and unacceptable as the persistence of hunger and poverty, adding that addressing this issue through the global alliance is a priority for Brazil’s G20 presidency.

Amid the ongoing hunger crisis worldwide, especially in developing countries, the upcoming G20 summit – where eradicating hunger and poverty is one of the top priorities – is expected to be of great practical significance.

Xu Feibiao, director of the Center for BRICS and G20 Studies at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, stated that the G20 summit could provide global solutions, noting that both Brazil and China have made significant achievements in the fight against hunger and poverty.

In 2023, Lula launched the Brazil Without Hunger program. With 20 different actions and projects, the program, which has a total investment of more than $70 billion, reduced the number of people in Brazil suffering from severe food insecurity from 33 million to 8.7 million in just one year, said Valeria Burity, special secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger of Brazil, in an interview with a Chinese news portal in November.

China has not only achieved its goal of eliminating extreme poverty by 2020, improving the living standards of hundreds of millions of people over decades of development, but it has also contributed to helping other countries, particularly developing ones, fight poverty. This has been done through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, which provide advanced agricultural technology and cooperation projects aimed at eradicating poverty and improving local well-being.

For example, under the Belt and Road Initiative, China has supported numerous infrastructure projects, including the Hungarian-Serbian Railway, the China-Laos Railway and the Chancay Port project in Peru. These projects not only enhance local transportation but also create jobs and boost residents’ incomes.

“China’s poverty eradication model and experience can provide strong support for relevant G20 programs,” Xu said.

Echoing Xu, Fernando Brancoli, an international relations expert from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, told China Media Group that from the perspective of poverty alleviation, the G20 Rio Summit offers an ideal platform for Brazil and China to cooperate. The two countries continue to lead global efforts to reduce poverty by showcasing their respective poverty alleviation experiences, tailored to their national conditions and proven effective.

In addition to offering global solutions based on experiences from China and Brazil, Xu noted that sustainable development has been a key agenda for the G20, with eliminating hunger and poverty being an integral part of this agenda.

Xu pointed out that G20 members, which represent the world’s largest developed and developing economies, account for more than 80 percent of global GDP. “Once the G20 members reach consensus and put forward solutions, the G20 can be a key propeller for global consensus and action against hunger and poverty,” he said.

Hailing the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty as a critical first step in global action, Xu stated that the upcoming G20 summit is expected to launch initiatives, plans and roadmaps for combating hunger and poverty, integrating them with the broader agenda on health, education, infrastructure, financial inclusion, and other key issues to create more feasible and comprehensive solutions.

Brancoli emphasized that the global alliance will bring together global funds, resources and poverty reduction experience to jointly support the global poverty reduction cause.

Acknowledging that there will be some differences between countries in addressing this issue, Xu remarked that while it is impossible to solve it overnight, the G20 has prioritized it as a top issue, signaling that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

James Dyson Award announces its 2024 global winners: Hair-loss prevention device for chemotherapy patients and Sustainable ‘maple seed’ weather balloon

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 13 November 2024 – Today, the James Dyson Award unveils its two global winners, each receiving £30,000 for solving significant problems of global importance in medicine and sustainability:

JDA2024 Global Winners Final

  • Athena is the global Medical Winner. Invented by 24-year-old designer Olivia Humphreys (Ireland) after she witnessed her mother’s painful battle with cancer, Athena is an affordable – and portable – device for chemotherapy patients that uses scalp cooling to prevent hair-loss. It is 120 of the price of existing technology, and can be used outside hospital, reducing the time patients are forced to spend on wards.
  • airXeed Radiosonde is the global Sustainability Winner. Invented by postdoctoral researchers Shane Kyi Hla Win and Danial Sufiyan Bin Shaiful (Singapore), airXeed is a reusable, nature-inspired sensor for weather forecasting. Unlike current weather balloons, it does not create tonnes of plastic and electronics waste, and intelligently descends like a maple seed to avoid aircraft collisions and land in designated collection zones.

The international student design competition, which has now supported more than 400 problem-solving inventions from young engineers and scientists worldwide, received nearly 2,000 entries this year.

Speaking of the 2024 winners, James Dyson said:We started the James Dyson Award nearly 20 years ago to encourage students at university to solve problems. And we’ve had thousands and thousands of entries since. It’s wonderfully encouraging to see how many students have solutions to severe global problems. Instead of sitting back and talking about it, they’re doing something about it – and that’s what the James Dyson Award encourages. We’ve got two brilliant winners this year which we’re thrilled to support, and I hope the Award will give them a springboard to future success.”

James Dyson surprised Olivia, Shane and Danial with the exciting news during an online video call. Watch how it went down on YouTube.

Medical Winner – Athena:

A Portable, Affordable, and Patient-Centric Solution to Chemo-Induced Hair Loss.

The problem

Some 65-99% of patients going through chemotherapy will be affected by chemo-induced hair loss[1]. Current hair-loss prevention techniques commonly use scalp cooling, a method which involves applying ice cold temperatures to the scalp before, during, and after chemotherapy, which can be very painful for patients. It mitigates hair loss by shrinking blood vessels and limiting blood flow to the scalp. After chemotherapy, cooling can also help hair grow back faster and stronger[2].

However, the availability of scalp cooling is limited due to its high costs. This year’s Medical Winner is from Ireland where the Minister for Health estimated the total cost of installing a scalp cooling machine at €216,000[3], with additional costs needed for staffing as the treatment requires additional help to operate the equipment.

The solution

Olivia Humphreys, a 24-year-old product design and technology graduate, invented Athena to tackle these issues after witnessing the impact of chemotherapy-induced hair loss when her mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2019. Having spent time with her mother during treatment, Olivia was inspired to reimagine hair-loss prevention technology.

Athena is a portable, thermoelectric hair-loss prevention device that uses scalp cooling. It’s more cost effective and timesaving than current hospital models, without compromising on the quality of treatment.

With Athena, patients can start and end the scalp-cooling process themselves from wherever they wish, such as the comfort of their own home. At full power, it can run for 3.5 hours, allowing the patient to commute to and from the hospital while cooling, and move around during infusion, such as for bathroom visits. Athena aims to give control back to patients during a time when they usually have little of it. Athena is patient-centric and so Olivia also chose bright colours for the device’s materials as a change from conventional, clinical colours found in hospitals. Taking its name from the powerful Greek Goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, for Humphreys, Athena is a symbol of resilience, which is a quality often seen in those living with an illness as serious as cancer and going through the necessary treatments.

The estimated cost for Athena would be around €1,000, according to Olivia, which is significantly less than industry machines which start at around €20,000. Athena has the potential to make hair-loss prevention more accessible and affordable for both patients and healthcare providers.

James Dyson, Founder of Dyson, said:I haven’t had cancer, but members of my family have had cancer and hair loss is a particularly depressing and debilitating part of chemotherapy treatment. You can freeze your scalp which you have to do in special facilities, but these aren’t always available, are costly and it’s very painful. This year’s Medical Winner, Olivia Humphreys, has tackled this problem by designing Athena, for portable scalp cooling. You can wear it while you travel, you can wear it in the car to and from hospital, you can use it at home – it’s a low-cost alternative available to everybody, with the potential to make a real difference.

On winning the James Dyson Award, Olivia said: “I’m incredibly proud of the hard work, ambition, and commitment that went into creating Athena. The recognition from the James Dyson Award validates not just my efforts, but also the stories and insights shared by people who’ve experienced cancer treatment. My mum inspired this journey, and it’s incredibly emotional and rewarding to have my project reach this level. The Award has motivated me to recognise my potential, and it opens up exciting opportunities for me as a young designer and innovator.”

Sustainability Winner – AirXeed Radiosonde:

Revolutionising Weather Forecasting with Reusable, Eco-Friendly Technology Inspired by Nature.

The problem

Every day, weather stations worldwide launch devices via weather balloons that gather critical atmospheric data for accurate weather forecasting. These small devices, called radiosondes, measure air pressure, temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction and transmit this data back to ground stations, helping meteorologists track weather patterns and forecast conditions. However, current devices are single-use and contribute to tonnes of plastic and e-waste globally.

After reaching high altitudes, the balloon carrying the device bursts, and the sensor descends rapidly, often crashing in remote and costly-to-retrieve locations[4], without collecting further atmospheric data as it falls.

There are 1,300 weather stations around the world[5], and it’s predicted they release at least two single-use radiosondes per day. So, over a year, almost one million radiosondes are released, costing $190million and estimated to cause 48 tonnes of e-waste[6].

These devices are crucial to the rapidly growing weather forecasting industry, valued at over $2.25 billion in 2023[7] and projected to reach approximately $5.23 billion by 2032[8]. This growth is driven by the rising demand for precise weather forecasting across sectors like agriculture, energy, transportation, and aviation. Extreme weather events have increased the demand for better forecasting systems too.

The solution

This year’s global Sustainability Winner aims to make weather forecasting more eco-friendly. AirXeed Radiosonde is a reusable device tackling the amount of e-waste created by single-use radiosondes on the market. It also aims to increase the amount of atmospheric data these devices collect, improving quality of forecasting.

Young engineers Shane Kyi Hla Win and Danial Sufiyan Bin Shaiful, from the Singapore University of Technology and Design, drew inspiration from nature to create airXeed Radiosonde. Their focus was to improve the descent and end-of-life of a radiosonde to make them reusable, reducing e-waste and minimising pollution in remote areas.

The team used the autorotation of maple seeds in their solution. A maple seed’s asymmetrical shape creates lift and drag, allowing it to spin like a helicopter as it falls. Shane and Danial applied this principle to their radiosonde design, enabling it to spiral during descent. This not only slows the device, preventing damage upon impact with the ground, but also increases the likelihood of it landing in an accessible location, making retrieval and reuse easier. The team used machine learning to optimise this design for the best flight performance. AirXeed’s controlled descent allows it to collect and transmit more atmospheric data to weather stations, as traditional radiosondes cannot do this.

Shane and Danial prioritised sustainability in their material choice, using balsa wood and foam for the lightweight wing and cowling. Modular components allow for easy replacement and recycling of worn parts, catering to industry needs.

On what’s next for the team, Danial said:With the Award’s recognition, we hope to connect with experts in the weather industry, secure partnerships and attract funding to further test and develop our design. It’s a huge boost in our journey towards turning airXeed Radiosonde into a fully realised solution that can reduce electronic waste and make weather monitoring smarter and more sustainable.”
