FlexEnable makes a historic breakthrough in bringing disruptive flexible display technology to mass market with customer shipments now underway

CAMBRIDGE, UK – Media OutReach Newswire – 18 June 2024 – FlexEnable, the leader in the development and production of flexible organic electronics for active optics and displays, today announced that the world’s first mass-produced consumer product incorporating organic transistor technology has started shipping. The device, Ledger Stax, is a secure crypto wallet developed by French company Ledger. FlexEnable partnered with display manufacturing companies DKE (Shanghai) and Giantplus (Toufen City) to realise Ledger’s design for a credit card-sized product with an E Ink display uniquely wrapped around 180-degree bend.

Ledger Stax features a display radius of curvature never before achieved in an e-paper display product, made possible by the use of highly flexible organic thin-film-transistors (OTFTs), comprising organic materials and process IP developed, supplied and licensed by FlexEnable.

With fully qualified manufacturing now underway at DKE and Giantplus, FlexEnable’s OTFT technology is the first and only organic transistor in mass production. Made of polymers instead of silicon, these OTFTs are manufactured directly onto plastic sheets instead of glass and are much thinner and lighter compared to today’s glass displays. The manufacture of these flexible OTFT backplanes by Giantplus, a leading Taiwanese display maker, paves the way for a new generation of flexible displays and optical modules with form factors not imaginable until now, for applications including AR/VR optics, ePrivacy screens, automotive smart windows and Organic LCDs.

Chuck Milligan, CEO of FlexEnable, said: “We are proud to have collaborated with Ledger, whose innovative product design and dedication to bringing new technology to market have enabled us to achieve this breakthrough. We have been very impressed by our partners DKE, who developed a volume production capability to achieve the first ever 180-degree bend lamination of flexible ePaper displays, and Giantplus, the first fab to implement our unique transistor materials and patented low-temperature process technology into mass production.

The launch of Ledger Stax represents a significant milestone, for the displays industry, and the billon-dollar ePaper display market is just the beginning. As we ramp up production of FlexiOM materials to meet growing demand for Ledger Stax, the established supply chain is primed to support a range of future applications in AR/VR optics and beyond, to meet the volume needs of our brand partners.”

Continuing with the theme of “Expanding People-to-people Exchanges and Deepening Integrated Development”, this year’s forum encompasses 50 events, including the main forum event and other activities in four sectors – grassroots exchanges, youth exchanges, cultural exchanges, and economic exchanges.

The Straits Forum serves as an important platform for promoting extensive people-to-people exchanges and cooperation across the Strait. Over the past 16 years, it has always adhered to its “people-to-people, grassroots, and extensive” nature and has continuously expanded the “circle of friends” between people on both sides. From visits to ancestral homeland to economic and trade cooperation, from cultural exploration to discussions on people’s livelihood, and from youth exchanges to future envisioning, the forum has paved a broader path for cross-strait exchanges.

At the forum, Taiwanese participants talked about the opportunities presented by China’s modernization drive, shared their stories of chasing, building, and realizing dreams on the mainland, vividly annotating the stories of cross-strait integrated development. Fan Jiangfeng, who started his venture in Xiamen in 2014, has witnessed the development and progress across various fields on the mainland over the past 10 years. He has transitioned from an “entrepreneur” into a “facilitator”, becoming a force for Taiwanese youth starting businesses on the mainland and leading his team to facilitate exchanges for 40,000 young Taiwanese. Fan expressed his hope for more Taiwanese compatriots to participate in cross-strait exchanges, cooperation, and integrated development, as well as to join the process of national rejuvenation and share the historical opportunities of Chinese-style modernization.

It is introduced that this year’s forum will offer over 1,600 jobs for young people in Taiwan and promote the signing of multiple agreements between institutions and enterprises across the Strait in areas such as rural revitalization, Taiwan youth entrepreneurship, technology, culture, publishing, public welfare, finance, and more. It will facilitate the implementation of a batch of projects on cross-strait integrated development in Fujian province.

Vectron Systems AG: Statement Takeover Offer English Version

MÜNSTER, GERMANY – EQS Newswire – 17 June 2024 – The business combination announced on 1 June 2024 between Vectron Systems AG (“Vectron”) and the Shift4 group of companies (“Shift4”) was previously subject to the condition that Shift4 succeeds in acquiring a total of at least 70% of the Vectron shares (including the shares from the planned capital increase). With the 70% threshold having been nearly reached already, Shift4 has now declared that it has waived this condition and that the condition is deemed to be fulfilled. This means not only that the acquisition of around 41.4% of Vectron’s share capital by the current CEO Thomas Stümmler and a company controlled by him, but also that the agreed Business Combination Agreement is finally binding and that the 10% capital increase from authorised capital is being subscribed by Shift4 and completed.

For the current tender offer (www.arrow-offer.com) for all Vectron shares at an offer price of EUR 10.50 per Vectron share, the condition is also not relevant any longer. The Bidder has also waived all other offer conditions. Following the tender offer, the Vectron share shall be de-listed in the short term.

The Executive Board and Supervisory Board have reviewed the offer document independently of each other and have published a respective joint statement.

The Executive Board and the Supervisory Board consider the consideration offered by the Bidder to be appropriate, fair and attractive. The Offer Price includes a premium of EUR 0.74 or approximately 7.6% per Vectron Share on the closing price on 31 May 2024, the last trading day prior to the announcement of the intended Offer by the Bidder and even a premium of EUR 3.53 or approximately 50.6% compared to the volume-weighted average price during the six previous months.

The targets of Shift4 for Vectron set out in the Offer Document Vectron are, in the opinion of the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board, in the best interests of the company and are in the interests of its employees and customers. The Executive Board and the Supervisory Board therefore support and welcome the offer.

The economic attractiveness of the offer for the accepting shareholders prompts the Executive Board and Supervisory Board to recommend that Vectron shareholders accept the offer. Shareholders should also take into consideration in their decision that a delisting of the Vectron share is planned.

Further details on the reasons for this recommendation can be found the joint statement of the two bodies published at www.vectron-systems.com/de/unternehmen/investor-relations/uebernahmeangebot.

The transaction was advised on the part of Vectron Systems AG by Stephens (Financial Advisor), Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek (Legal) and Meister Consulting (IR).

70% of social sector organizations are insufficiently prepared against cybersecurity threats

The Doing Good Index 2024 reveals Asia’s social sector is unprepared for technological challenges

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 17 June 2024 – The Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS), a uniquely Asia, independent, action-oriented research and advisory organization, released the 2024 edition of its flagship study, the Doing Good Index. The study finds that despite the rapid digitalization of the Asian social sector, social delivery organizations (SDOs)1 are struggling to keep up with technological changes due to inadequate access to digital infrastructure, lack of capacity, and insufficient donor support. As technology continues to advance, a new type of digital divide is being created that hampers the ability of the social sector to deliver products and services to the most vulnerable communities.

The Index finds that digital technology has become commonplace in the social sector in Asia. 95% of the organizations surveyed use digital technology to carry out their work, with 88% intending to increase their use of digital technology in the next two years. However, SDOs in Asia lack the necessary resources to fully leverage the benefits of digital technology and protect themselves against the associated risks. 59% of surveyed SDOs said their staff lack the skills to use digital tools effectively, and 70% do not have, or are unaware of, an organizational cybersecurity strategy. When asked about their organization’s top technology needs, hardware, operational software and staff training emerged as the top three.

According to the Index, access to operational funding is essential for organizations to respond adequately to the rapidly changing digital landscape. Almost half of SDOs report that their donors do not fund digital technology and IT costs, indicating a glaring funding gap.

“Asia’s social sector is unprepared for technological change amidst the rapid digitalization in the region. We believe philanthropy can play a crucial role in meeting digital technology needs. Donors should recognize that challenges in securing operational funding hinder the organizations they support from investing in digital technology that could improve their productivity and impact. Operational funding and in-kind donations can help social delivery organizations invest in capacity building to fully leverage digital technologies to meet their mission of helping our communities.” said Dr. Ruth Shapiro, the Co-Founder and Chief Executive of CAPS.
In addition to technological challenges, the Doing Good Index also shares how economies across the region are or are not creating enabling environments for the giving and receiving of private social investment such as philanthropy and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Against the backdrop of the tumultuous Covid-19 years, there has been little change across the four sub-indexes2 of the Doing Good Index in the last two years. Aside from Sri Lanka, which improved in performance, all other economies have remained in the same clusters as 2022.

Funding to the social sector has remained mostly unchanged. Domestic funding (from individuals, foundations and companies) remains the main funding source for SDOs across Asia, comprising 64% by proportion of the average SDO’s budget. Government funding (20%) and foreign funding (15%) as a proportion of an SDO’s budget have also remained steady.

Funding shortfalls, staffing challenges, and staff upskilling/reskilling are the top challenges facing the social sector. Almost three-quarters (73%) of SDOs struggle to recruit staff, and 69% report difficulty retaining them.

Governments continue to send mixed messages on social sector regulations. While some governments embrace the social sector as a partner, others are showing a hot-and-cold approach, at times encouraging its growth and at others implementing overly burdensome regulations and restrictions.

The role of SDOs remains important, and they generally feel supported. There is also strong optimism within the sector, even after the turmoil of the last few years. This demonstrates the resilience of SDOs in the face of unprecedented challenges.

Mr. Ronnie Chan, the Co-Founder and Chair of CAPS, said, “With ongoing crises ranging from regional conflicts to climate change, Asia faces an uphill battle to create a more equitable future. The good news is that with increasing private wealth, Asia has a unique opportunity to leap ahead and implement policies and programs to solve community problems. We at CAPS are pleased to release the fourth iteration of the Doing Good Index, offering actionable and evidence-based insights for business leaders, philanthropists, and policymakers to consider how they can facilitate and increase private capital flows toward the social sector. The Doing Good Index also offers a blueprint for a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future for the region.”

About the Doing Good Index

The Doing Good Index studies the regulatory and societal environment in which private capital is directed toward doing good in Asia. Now in its fourth iteration, the Index identifies the policies and incentives that can drive private capital to the social sector and considers how stakeholders can build stronger, more trusting connections. It is an evidence-based resource for policymakers, philanthropists, academics and nonprofit leaders, offering in-depth insights and best practices to increase and enhance philanthropic giving.

The Index is based on data under four sub-indexes: Regulations, Tax and Fiscal Policy, Ecosystem and Procurement. Together, these indicators provide a picture of various factors impacting the supply and demand for private social investment in each economy. In 2024, we also included questions about how the social sector is embracing digital technology in the provision of services, raising funds and managing business operations. The findings are evidence-based, derived from survey data collected from 2,183 SDOs and 140 experts across 17 economies3, and supported by a network of partners and experts across Asia. After tabulation, the Index categorizes the economies into four clusters: Doing Well, Doing Better, Doing Okay and Not Doing Enough.
