GAC’s Quark Electric Drive Achieves the World’s First DAkkS ASIL D Functional Safety and Information Security Dual Certification

GUANGZHOU, China, Jan. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Recently, GAC’s independently developed Quark E-Drive power domain control system has achieved the world’s first dual certification for deeply integrated ASIL D functional safety and information security, accredited by DAkkS, Germany’s national accreditation body. The certification was evaluated and issued by SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services Co., Ltd. (SGS), a globally recognized certification authority.


ISO 26262 is the internationally recognized core standard for automotive functional safety. Within this framework, ASIL D represents the highest automotive safety integrity level, requiring near-zero tolerance for safety-critical failures. Achieving an ASIL D certification accredited by DAkkS signifies that the certified product meets the highest globally accepted standards for automotive safety.

The certified Quark E-Drive power domain control system has been in production use since February 2025, and is now deployed across multiple models under GAC’s brands – HYPTEC and AION. As the industry’s first electric drive power domain system based on deep integration using a single main control chip, the solution significantly reduces chip count, minimizes risks associated with chip-level failures, and boosts motor controller efficiency to as high as 99.9%. The certification confirms that GAC has completed the system’s full product development lifecycle in strict compliance with ISO 26262:2018 functional safety and ISO/SAE 21434:2021 information security standards.

Throughout the project, GAC Technology Research Center worked closely with SGS experts, strengthening safety design across all development phases while ensuring engineering feasibility and an optimal user experience.

Keynotes 
CES keynotes featured major announcements and groundbreaking insights by some of tech’s all-stars.

AMD
AMD’s keynote generated extraordinary interest, drawing thousands of attendees and filling the venue to capacity, including standing room. With demand exceeding available space, thousands more streamed the keynote. AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su discussed how the company’s portfolio of AI products and deep cross-industry collaborations are turning the promise of AI into real-world impact, highlighting that AI is everywhere and for everyone. Su unveiled new AI-focused products, including the Ryzen AI 400 Series for next-gen AI PCs, the MI440X GPU for enterprise, and the Ryzen AI Halo developer platform, emphasizing AI integration from data centers to edge devices and real-world applications with partners like OpenAI. She also provided an early look at its “Helios” rack-scale platform. Michael Kratsios, Director of the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy, joined Su on stage for a conversation on the role of public-private collaboration in advancing AI innovation, competitiveness, and opportunity. AMD announced a commitment of $150 million to bring AI into more classrooms and communities. 

Siemens
Siemens AG President and CEO, Roland Busch, unveiled technologies to accelerate the industrial AI revolution. NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang joined Busch on stage to expand their partnership to build the industrial AI operating system. Siemens launched Digital Twin Composer software to power the industrial metaverse at scale. Athina Kanioura, CEO, Latin America and Global Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer of PepsiCo discussed how PepsiCo uses the Digital Twin Composer software to simulate upgrades to its facilities in the U.S. with plans to scale globally. Siemens highlighted new technologies for accelerating drug discovery, autonomous driving, and shop floor efficiency. In manufacturing, Siemens announced a collaboration to bring Industrial AI to Meta Ray-Ban AI Glasses. 

Havas
At C Space, Yannick Bolloré, CEO and Chairman at Havas and Vivendi Chairman, sat with Jim Stengel to cover how the convergence of technology and human ingenuity is unlocking unprecedented creative possibilities. As brands and creators navigate this new era, collaboration between tech and talent will define the next wave of storytelling. All-In Interview with McKinsey and General Catalyst
Jason Calacanis, Entrepreneur, Angel Investor, and Co-Host of the All-In podcast, alongside Bob Sternfels, Global Managing Partner at McKinsey & Company, and Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, explored how AI is reshaping strategy, investment, and innovation, offering candid insights into the opportunities and challenges ahead for businesses navigating this technological shift. The keynote was a live taping of the All-In podcast.

Lenovo Tech World at Sphere
Lenovo made a bold statement bringing its Tech World experience inside the iconic Sphere in Las Vegas. Lenovo Chairman and CEO, Yuanqing Yang, delivered a fully immersive showcase centered on AI and real-world applications, with leaders from AMD, FIFA, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Sphere joining him throughout the presentation. Caterpillar
Caterpillar CEO Joe Creed took the stage with a message that the company isn’t just about heavy machinery anymore — it’s going high-tech. His keynote painted a bold picture of Caterpillar’s future, where advanced technologies are redefining construction and equipment. Creed announced the Cat AI Assistant, making it easier for customers to buy, maintain, manage, and operate their equipment. The launch redefines how work gets done by combining data, AI, and heavy equipment to help customers improve productivity, efficiency, and safety. 

ŌURA
CEO Tom Hale joined Bloomberg’s Ed Ludlow on stage at the CES Leaders in Technology Dinner to explore how wearables are revolutionizing personal health tracking and the demographics driving adoption. The conversation highlighted the rapid growth of the wearables market and the significant opportunities ahead as technology empowers consumers and transforms healthcare.

Pony.ai and BAIC BJEV Deepen Strategic Partnership to Accelerate Robotaxi Development and Commercialization

BEIJING, Jan. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Pony.ai, a global leader in achieving large-scale mass production and commercialization of autonomous driving, and BAIC BJEV, the electric vehicle development and manufacturing arm of BAIC Group, today announced a comprehensive upgrade to their strategic partnership. The two companies will deepen cooperation across the autonomous driving value chain to accelerate the mass production, commercialization, and global deployment of high-level autonomous driving solutions.

The expanded partnership is designed to systematically address the core challenges of scaling L4 autonomous driving from pilot programs to sustainable commercial operations.

Under the new agreement, Pony.ai and BAIC BJEV will collaborate more deeply on the forward design and development of purpose-built Robotaxi models, jointly optimizing vehicle architectures and in-cabin systems to better support autonomous operations and passenger experience. This collaboration establishes a scalable foundation for large-scale Robotaxi deployment, while also exploring potential applications of Pony.ai’s autonomous driving technology in certain passenger vehicle programs over the longer term.

In addition to vehicle development, the two companies will also strengthen collaboration across the autonomous mobility value chain, including user acquisition, fleet operations, and vehicle maintenance. Leveraging BAIC BJEV’s strengths as one of China’s leading EV manufacturers and its mature OEM-grade supply chain, the partnership is expected to further reduce the bill of materials (BOM) and long-term operating costs of autonomous vehicles. At the same time, the collaboration will improve vehicle performance, maintenance efficiency, and full lifecycle management—key enablers for sustainable Robotaxi commercialization at scale.

These vehicles are now in active commercial operation in Beijing and Shenzhen, two of China’s largest metropolitan areas.

Etiqa’s Project Firefly Reinforces Mangrove Ecosystem in Sungai Panjang in Collaboration with Malaysian Nature Society


SELANGOR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 10 January 2026 – Etiqa has launched Etiqa’s Project Firefly a new environmental initiative dedicated to conserving one of Malaysia’s iconic firefly habitats while uplifting the livelihood of the communities living along Sungai Panjang in Sabak Bernam, who rely on eco-tourism and the mangrove ecosystem. The programme was carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and the Sabak Bernam District Council.

Through Etiqa’s Project Firefly, Etiqa is taking proactive steps to preserve and sustain the ecosystem by planting 130 Sonneratia Caseolaris or locally known as Berembang saplings and 200 Sonneratia Caseolaris seeds, undertaking habitat restoration works, and mobilising 50 Etiqa volunteers for a community-driven initiative along Sungai Panjang, covering a total stretch of 10 kilometres. In addition, an awareness session was conducted by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Faculty of Science which aimed to educate participants on the ecological importance of fireflies and the need for long-term conservation.

Fireflies play an important role as indicators of mangrove ecosystem health, which in turn supports environmental balance and benefits surrounding communities. However, across Malaysia, firefly populations are declining due to rapid habitat loss caused by river pollution, deforestation, and increasing light pollution along mangrove-lined rivers. These threats not only endanger native species but also affect the livelihoods of local fishermen and villagers who rely on healthy river ecosystems and firefly-based eco-tourism. Protecting congregating firefly zones through the preservation of adequate vegetation buffers along riverbanks is therefore critical to ensuring the long-term survival of these species and the sustainability of local livelihoods.
