Wing Bank and Royal Group of Companies Launch Foundation for Refugee Assistance Amid Border Crisis

SINGAPORE and PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, Aug. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In response to the intensifying humanitarian situation along the Thai Khmer border, Wing Bank and the members of Royal Group of Companies have jointly established the Foundation for Refugee Assistance, a long-term initiative designed to support Cambodian families displaced by ongoing conflict.

On August 2–3, the first wave of aid was delivered to Wat Kiri Toul Andet, a refugee camp in Preah Vihear Province currently sheltering over 700 children and their families.

The mobilization effort commenced on August 1, with volunteers assembling at the Royal One parking lot to sort and prepare donations. The operation was led by Royal Group of Companies representatives Mr. Shanghai Lao, Mr. Phakdey Vattanak, and Ms. Sotheary Van, alongside Wing Bank Deputy CEO Mr. Bunthe Hor and a dedicated logistics team.

Despite rising security concerns, the mission proceeded as planned. On August 3, four truckloads of essential supplies reached the camp. Additional aid was also delivered to frontline personnel with support from Cellcard, a Royal Group subsidiary.

The Foundation was established by Neak Oknha Kith Meng and Lok Chumteav Neak Oknha Mao Chamnan, with full backing from the members of the Royal Group of Companies. Eight donation booths have been installed across their offices in Phnom Penh to collect monetary and in-kind contributions.

“Many homes were destroyed along the borders,” said Phakdey Vattanak, Group Chief Relationship Officer of the Royal Group. “Even when the fighting ends, these families may have nothing to return to. They will need time, tools, and support to rebuild their lives. The Foundation is here to be that support—for the long haul.”

“In times of crisis, unity becomes our greatest strength,” said Shanghai Lao, Division Chief People & Culture Officer.

“While the conflict may take time to resolve, families are suffering now. They cannot wait. And we cannot look away,” added Bunthe Hor, Deputy CEO of Wing Bank. “This is a moment for all Khmer—wherever we live—to act as one. Donations aren’t just helpful—they’re life-saving.”

How to Donate:

Cambodians living overseas can contribute directly to the Foundation for Refugee Assistance through Wing Bank’s international partners, including Gmoney, E9Pay, and Hanpass in South Korea; City Express and JME in Japan; and Western Union and MoneyGram in other countries.

To donate, users simply select “Account Transfer” on their mobile app, enter “Foundation for Refugees Assistance”, input the donation amount, and confirm the transaction.

All donations are securely managed and transparently distributed to ensure timely aid reaches those in need—both now and in the months ahead.

Wing Bank and Royal Group extend their heartfelt appreciation to all donors—individuals, organizations, and communities near and far—who have already stepped forward with generosity and compassion. Among these heroes are students sacrificing their lunch moneystreet vendors offering portions of their daily earnings, and even disabled veterans who gave what little they could spare. Their actions speak louder than words. Their selflessness is a powerful reminder that kindness knows no boundaries, and that real change begins when we each take responsibility for one another.

Thailand’s Government Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Competitiveness in Dialogue With 30 Global Investors

BANGKOK, Aug. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai today welcomed senior executives from 30 global companies from diverse sectors, which have all made significant investments in strategic industries in Thailand over the past two years, to reaffirm the government’s commitment to welcome foreign investment and provide an update on the progress made in the implementation of key initiatives to strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness in the world market.

Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai today welcomed senior executives from 30 global companies, reaffirming the government’s commitment to foreign investment and highlighting progress on initiatives to boost Thailand’s global competitiveness.
Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai today welcomed senior executives from 30 global companies, reaffirming the government’s commitment to foreign investment and highlighting progress on initiatives to boost Thailand’s global competitiveness.

The event, “Confidence in Thailand’s Future – Prime Minister’s Dialogue with Global Investors,” was held at the Government House in Bangkok. Joining the Acting Prime Minister in meeting the investors from Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Singapore, were Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI).

The participation of so many leading corporate entities just days after the announcement last week by the U.S. of an agreement on a 19% tariff on Thai imports, is reflecting strong investor confidence in Thailand.

“While the 19% tariff rate on Thai-made goods is competitive compared to regional peers, the Thai government remains aware of the uncertainties surrounding the global economy and trade rules, and we are taking this opportunity to support the business sector by implementing mechanisms that will allow companies operating in our country to comply with global rules and to better mitigate risks,” Mr. Phumtham told the gathering. “We are also strengthening Thailand’s investment ecosystem and enhancing our competitiveness, through business-friendly regulations, the development of a highly skilled workforce, and an increase in the offer of clean and renewable energy.”

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Thai government for its successful negotiation of the U.S. tariff rate, aligning it with the rates applied to other Southeast Asian countries,” said Mr. Eiji Koizumi, Managing Director of Sony Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. “This effort significantly contributes to maintaining Thailand’s competitiveness in the global market.”

Mr. Phumtham added that Thailand is negotiating increased market opening around the world for companies manufacturing in Thailand, to add on the 17 trade agreements Thailand currently has with a total of 24 countries. By accelerating negotiations with partners including the EU, South Korea, and Canada, Thailand expects to soon enhance the competitiveness of Thai exports in more than 50 countries, he added.

Senior executives from several leading companies spoke during the dialogue to share their experiences and perspectives on investing in Thailand, including Infineon Technologies, Sony Technology, Changan Auto Southeast Asia, Nestle, and Google.

“In today’s fast-evolving global landscape, the ability to adapt, to welcome collaboration, and to foster trust between the public and private sectors is more important than ever. Thailand has exemplified this through its commitment to economic resilience, regulatory reform, and digital transformation,” said Mr. Lim Wei Khoe, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Infineon Technologies Thailand. “Your vision and policies have not only strengthened investor confidence but have also encouraged innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth across industries.”

Regarding the development of clean energy supply to support sustainable business operations, the Thai government through the Ministry of Energy and related agencies, launched the Utility Green Tariff (UGT1) mechanism, which provides clean energy services with certification for renewable energy use. Over 40 companies have expressed interest in applying for this service, Mr. Phumtham said. In addition, the government is preparing the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) mechanism, which allows electricity consumers to purchase electricity directly from producers. Initially, 2,000 megawatts of clean energy will be provided to the data center sector, which has high energy demand and long-term commitments.

“Green tariff is important to our business. In fact, we have just announced our collaboration with Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to implement the UGT1 program across six factories in Thailand,” said Mr. Victor Seah, Chairman and CEO of Nestle Indochina. “It will help companies like us meet our renewable energy goals.”

“This will also ensure a sustainable and greener future for Thailand. Google’s commitment, like many of our peer companies, is to prioritize the use of clean energy and also play our role in this ecosystem” said Ms. Su Ann Lim, Director, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Google. “Google is committed not only to invest in digital infrastructure but also in the community. Through Leave no Thai Behind Program, Google has trained 3.6 million Thai in digital and AI skills.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Office of the Vocational Education Commission, the Board of Investment, and the six PCB companies attending the Dialogue to jointly work in the development of the vocational workforce for the PCB manufacturing sector.

This initiative adds to several other projects to develop human resources in support of strategic industries, such as the Sandbox project for the advanced semiconductors and electronics sector, a collaboration between 15 universities and eight private companies, a part of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation’s (MHESI) plan to develop over 80,000 personnel in advanced semiconductors and electronics within five years.

“This is a strong example of our government’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce, a crucial foundation to maintain Thailand’s competitiveness and meet the needs of the industrial sector,” Mr. Phumtham said. “The Thai government and I are committed to putting in place the factors conducive to business development and building a strong foundation for the Thai economy. The government is ready to provide assistance in reducing obstacles to business operations, in a way that will ensure sustainable growth for your businesses and for Thailand.”

“We will establish a regional adaptive engineering center, with significant investment in R&D, infrastructure, testing equipment, smart facilities, and advanced technologies. Our goal is to bring top global talent to Thailand and build long-term technical capability here,” said Mr. Wu Xiaokang, Vice President of Changan Auto Southeast Asia. “We are actively increasing recruitment of Thai local talent to support our expanding operations.”

Thailand’s strong investment momentum and investors’ confidence continue to be reflected in record numbers. In the first half of 2025, applications for investment promotion filed with the BOI increased by 139% year-on-year, reaching an unprecedented 1.06 trillion baht (ca. USD 32.5 billion). Notably, foreign direct investment (FDI) applications accounted for 70% of the total value.

Ductal Carcinoma In Situ Discovery from Gynecomastia Surgery by Dr Ivan Puah

Gynecomastia can indicate underlying health concerns, including cancer, and surgery provides an opportunity to examine tissues for abnormalities. Early detection saves lives.

SINGAPORE, Aug. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Dr Ivan Puah, an MOH-accredited liposuction doctor at Amaris B. Clinic, with decades of experience in male chest contouring and gynecomastia surgery, emphasises the critical significance of adhering to rigorous surgical protocols and conducting comprehensive diagnostics. This includes the essential practice of sending every case of gynecomastia surgery for thorough histological assessment.

Ductal Carcinoma In Situ Finding in a Male Patient in Early 30s

Dr Puah’s patient with Grade III gynecomastia recently revealed the presence of Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), a precancerous condition affecting milk duct cells, as noted in his pathology report.

The report indicated that, despite the absence of clinical signs of malignancy such as nipple retraction or bloody discharge, histopathological examination was indispensable.

This finding enforces the imperative nature of routine histological assessment of excised male breast tissue, even when the procedural presentation appears straightforward.

Potential Seriousness of Conditions Associated with Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia can often indicate underlying health issues. Numerous published case studies have documented instances of gynecomastia tissue containing DCIS as well as metastatic prostate cancer cells.

The surgical intervention not only reshapes the chest into a more masculine contour, but it also serves as a pivotal opportunity to examine excised breast tissue for possible abnormalities, including malignancies such as testicular or male breast cancer.

As male breast cancer can mimic gynecomastia or present as smooth, oval-shaped masses on imaging studies, early detection remains a challenge.

Given these unpredictable factors, Dr Puah highly recommends that any solid mass identified in enlarged male breast tissue mandates a biopsy for accurate diagnosis.

The Critical Importance of Early Detection

“Gynecomastia surgery transcends mere aesthetics; it facilitates the examination of tissues that may have been developing undetected for years. This medical condition demands serious attention.”

Persistent breast changes should not be trivialised as simply ‘fat’ or ‘bad genetics.’ Men diagnosed with breast cancer frequently present at a more advanced stage, compared to their female counterparts, which can result in delays in receiving critical treatment.

Early detection saves lives.

SHARP Unveils the AQUOS R10 Smartphone with AI-Powered Features and Dolby Atmos® Stereo Sound

High-end Model Featuring Generative AI features with Peak Display
Brightness of 3,000 nits and Powerful Stereo Speakers
“Experience a Viewing Experience More Immersive than Watching Live

SINGAPORE, Aug. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — SHARP, the renowned leader in consumer technology, is set to launch the new AQUOS R10 smartphone in Singapore on 6 August 2025. AQUOS R10 brings cinematic-quality visuals and studio-grade audio into the palm of your hand — redefining immersive entertainment on mobile through cutting-edge display, sound, and camera technologies.

AQUOS R10 (from left: Trench Beige, Charcoal Black)
AQUOS R10 (from left: Trench Beige, Charcoal Black)

The AQUOS R10 is equipped with a Pro IGZO OLED display that boasts a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, which is 1.5 times brighter than previous models[1]. The advancement in light expression greatly enhances the contrast between bright and dark areas, rendering intricate textures realistically. Thanks to the implementation of “Virtual HDR,” even content that does not support HDR in video streaming services is displayed brightly and vividly[3]. Additionally, the newly developed full-metal box speaker delivers powerful and rich stereo sound in combination with spatial audio technology “Dolby Atmos®.” The AQUOS R10 provides a viewing experience that feels “more immersive than watching live”.

“The AQUOS R10 is built for users who want it all on the move — Japan creativity and premium design,” said Mr Woo Keat Chew, Managing Director of Sharp Singapore. “From the display’s stunning brightness to the rich stereo sound and enhanced imaging, this is a true showcase of Sharp’s Japan innovation in mobile technology. We’re proud to bring a device that transforms how consumers watch, listen, capture, and connect — all in one beautifully engineered package.”

The camera features a new image sensor of 1/1.55 inches. The reduction of noise in darker areas enhances the brightness of light, allowing for more beautiful night photography. This model incorporates various popular features from the flagship model AQUOS R9 pro. The 14-channel spectral sensor measures ambient light, enabling photography in diverse lighting environments with color accuracy that closely resembles reality. Moreover, AI image processing technology allows for a level of detail exceeding that of RAW data, significantly improving detail and tonal gradation when capturing images in zoom or night mode.

The generative AI-based call support feature has also been enhanced. It automatically extracts keywords from conversations and retains them as notes. If there is a “date and time” noted, it can automatically suggest adding the event to a calendar application, simplifying the scheduling process.

  2. Supports a function for generative AI to automatically extract keywords during conversations and retain them as notes

Main Features

1. Equipped with a Pro IGZO OLED display with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and a full-metal box speaker

The Pro IGZO OLED display features variable driving rates from 1 to 240 Hz[2]. With a high peak brightness of 3,000 nits, the contrast between bright and dark portions is significantly improved, making sunlit landscapes and night scenes appear exceptionally realistic. Non-HDR content from video streaming services can also be enjoyed in brighter and more vibrant visuals through “Virtual HDR.” When the video is not displayed in full-screen mode, only the currently playing segment is brightened, reducing overall glare on the screen.

The device features large speaker boxes mounted at both the top and bottom. An all-metal upper speaker box enhances sound pressure and delivers powerful audio. It also supports the spatial audio technology “Dolby Atmos®,” providing an immersive sound experience. New acoustic technology regulates frequency according to volume, making high and low frequencies easily audible even at lower volume levels. Sound output through headphones can also be transformed into spatial audio using “8Way Audio” technology.

2. Camera features a new image sensor that reduces noise in darker areas

The camera features a new image sensor that measures 1/1.55 inches. Innovative image processing technology reduces noise in darker areas, making night scenes with stars and lights appear even more beautiful. The device is equipped with a 14-channel spectral sensor that allows for capturing natural colors in challenging indoor lighting conditions.

AI-driven image processing technology significantly enhances detail and tonal gradation in zoom and night modes. Furthermore, an AI feature that removes unwanted shadows now supports not only food photography but also text in documents.

Videos can be shot with vibrant colors using “Dolby Vision®.” An AI feature can predict and track the movements of subjects during video recording, ensuring autofocus continues to function even if the subject temporarily hides behind an object[3].

3. Supports a function for generative AI to automatically extract keywords during conversations and retain them as notes

During calls, generative AI can automatically extract keywords and retain them as notes. After the call, these keywords are presented in a user-friendly list. Additionally, if a note includes a “date and time,” it can propose adding the schedule to a calendar application, simplifying event registration.

Other Features

A new heat dissipation structure has been adopted, attaching a high-thermal-conductive copper block between the vapor chamber and CPU. This ensures efficient heat distribution from the CPU, maintaining smooth performance during prolonged video recording or high-load scenarios. It comes equipped with a high-performance CPU and 12 GB of large-capacity RAM, allowing for enjoyable operation of high-definition games.

  • Features “free curve” design

Features a striking “free curve” design supervised by “Miyake Design,” established by designer Kazushige Miyake. This design, not entirely circular nor square, has been carried over from the previous model due to its popularity. High-quality glass material with a glossy feel is used, making the device aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to fit within various living environments and attire.

  • Water Resistance, Dustproof, and Shock Resistance

In addition to waterproof and dustproof features, it meets the shock resistance standard of “MIL-STD-810” compliance[4], ensuring durability against sudden rain or accidental drops.
