SK hynix Begins Supplying Mobile NAND Solution ZUFS 4.1

  • Company achieves world-first mass production of high-performance NAND solution products and starts supplying them to the mobile market
  • The solution significantly improves sustained performance compared to conventional UFS, reducing app launch time by 45%; optimized for on-device AI and large-scale data processing
  • Company aims to strengthen its competitive edge in the AI memory sector through tailored solutions and strategic partnerships

SEOUL, South Korea, Sept. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — SK hynix Inc. (or “the company”, www.skhynix.com) announced today that it has begun supplying its high-performance mobile NAND solution ZUFS 4.1 to customers, marking the world’s first mass production of this solution.

The solution’s adoption in the latest smartphones reinforces SK hynix’s technological excellence in the global market. ZUFS 4.1 will enhance smartphones’ powerful on-device AI capabilities, offering users an innovative experience.

SK hynix successfully completed the qualification process for the solution in June this year through close collaboration with customers. In July, the company began mass production and started supplying the product.

ZUFS, or Zoned UFS[1], is an extended specification of UFS[2] that applies Zoned Storage technology, which stores data in different zones based on its usage and characteristics.

[1] Zoned UFS (ZUFS): First introduced by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) in 2023 as an extended specification of UFS. Development of ZUFS 4.1, based on the JEDEC UFS 4.1 standard, was completed in 2025.

[2] Universal Flash Storage (UFS): A high-speed flash memory storage specification for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Since the launch of UFS 1.0 in 2011, the specification has evolved through versions 2.0 (2013), 2.1 (2016), 3.0 (2018), 3.1 (2020), 4.0 (2022), and 4.1 (2025), with each version significantly improving data transfer speed and power efficiency.

When installed in a smartphone, ZUFS 4.1 enhances the operation speed of the operating system (OS) and improves data management efficiency. As a result, it mitigates read performance degradation over extended use by more than four times compared to conventional UFS, enabling a 45% reduction in app launch times. Unlike conventional UFS which writes new data by overwriting existing data, ZUFS 4.1 writes data sequentially. This data storage method has resulted in a 47% reduction in AI app launch times.

These performance characteristics position ZUFS 4.1 as an optimal solution for today’s mobile environment, where on-device AI and large-scale data processing are essential.

In addition, SK hynix has significantly enhanced the error-handling capabilities of ZUFS 4.1 compared to version 4.0 developed in May 2024. By detecting errors with greater precision and clearly communicating the necessary corrective actions to the central processing unit, the latest solution is expected to significantly improve system reliability and recovery performance.

“ZUFS 4.1, which we have successfully begun to supply, is the first solution developed and mass-produced through collaboration aimed at optimizing Android OS and storage devices. Looking ahead, its applications are expected to expand,” said Justin Kim, President & Head of AI Infra at SK hynix.

“We will continue to supply NAND solutions that meet customer needs in a timely manner, while strengthening partnerships with global companies to strengthen our competitive edge in the AI memory sector.”

Metal Logic launches modular, scalable low emission smelting platform, with a site secured for first deployment in the Pilbara region

Steel is about to become cheaper and cleaner

MELBOURNE, Australia, Sept. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Low-emission steel platform Metal Logic has secured a strategic location in Western Australia’s iron ore–rich Pilbara region to deploy its ‘smelting as a service’ model.

The company will utilize its Australian-invented, modular and scalable array smelting technology at industrial scale with an initial array deployment of 1Mtpa then ramping up mass production from Melbourne.

The technology, invented and developed for commercialisation in Australia, enables the processing of lower-grade ores, extends mine life, and offers a cost advantage to local manufacturers—ushering in a new era of jobs and regional resilience.

Chief Executive Joel Nicholls confirmed that Metal Logic has secured land from a private entity within 20 kilometres of the key rail lines that transport more than half of the Pilbara’s iron ore to the coast for export.

“Metal Logic intends to deploy its modular, scalable array smelter at this location, delivering our ‘clean steel’ solution to the market,” Mr. Nicholls stated.

“Our platform allows treatment of lower-grade iron ore, enabling operations to continue below previous cut-off grades and unlocking previously stranded or care-and-maintenance deposits,” he explained.

“We are expanding our team and seeking people with the skills needed for our next deployment phase. Metal Logic is already evaluating stranded and care-and-maintenance iron ore resources to determine their suitability for our process. We need experts, from resource assessors to engineers, to help us scale our solution.”

Focusing on thermodynamic efficiency to minimize costs and lower emissions, Metal Logic’s technology is economically viable without requiring government subsidies.

“We aim to unlock previously stranded mineral resources and deliver value-added processing to regions, allowing taxpayer funds to be directed to other priorities such as education, health, and manufacturing,” said Mr Nicholls.

Mr. Nicholls added that Metal Logic has received strong backing from global steel and iron ore industry leaders, further validating the strategic importance of its new Pilbara site, located close to major rail and Port Hedland.

Unlocking a New Era in Steel and Resource Value Chains

For more than a century, steel production has relied on furnaces that waste up to half their input energy. Even modern blast furnaces and their “green” alternatives operate at only 25–65% of the thermodynamic ceiling of approximately 7.5 gigajoules per tonne of iron[1]. As a result, entrenched reliance on coal, coke, and outdated furnaces generates over 2.8 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions annually[2], while keeping steel prices high and locked into inefficient chemistry.

Metal Logic’s approach aims to reset the steel value chain by supporting two types of customers:

Resource owners with stranded assets:

The technology makes lower-grade ores economically feasible, extends mine life, and reduces environmental impact by processing deposits that would otherwise remain untapped. Locating smelters near these resources also minimizes shipping inefficiencies and keeps value creation local, potentially adding up to $400 USD in value per tonne of ore retained in Australia—creating jobs and new industries.

Steel buyers seeking traceability:

Metal Logic offers steel with traceability and verifiable CO2 footprints. Advanced electrochemical, photonic, and molecular-scale separation methods allow efficiency beyond traditional methods, reducing the need for bulk shipping of ore and waste.

The Purpose:

Australia has long exported raw ore and repurchased high-value manufactured goods. Metal Logic’s platform aims to “industrialize” resource-rich regions, extend mine life, reduce environmental footprints, and supply downstream industries with lower-cost, traceable steel. For miners, it unlocks marginal resources; for manufacturers and nations, it delivers affordable, cleaner steel at scale. For communities, it means jobs and resilience—not the loss seen with past industry closures.

By bringing miners and steel buyers together on a single platform, the company hopes to deliver environmental and economic benefits for all stakeholders.

About Metal Logic

Metal Logic operates research, development, laboratory, smelter development, and production facilities in Victoria, with offices in Perth and Melbourne. With its newly secured site near Port Hedland in the Pilbara, the company is advancing the commercialization of modular, scalable clean steel smelting technology that aims to provide steel at a lower cost than traditional black carbon methods.

XingImaging in partnership with SynuSight was awarded a grant from The Michael J. Fox Foundation to support development of the α-synuclein PET tracer 18F-FD4 for Parkinson’s disease

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Sept. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — XingImaging in partnership with SynuSight Biotech has received funding of $3.84M from The Michael J. Fox Foundation to conduct studies on 18F-FD4, a specific α-synuclein (α-syn)-targeted PET tracer. Based on prior investigator-initiated trials, the SynuSight Biotech developed technology, showed the potential to become the world’s first α-syn-targeted PET tracer for Parkinson’s disease (PD), multiple system atrophy (MSA), and rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD).

XingImaging is a leading neuroimaging and radiopharmaceutical services company serving as SynuSight’s preclinical and clinical CRO partner. Under the grant framework, XingImaging will provide critical support for regulatory filings and clinical trial execution while delivering key scientific expertise to help drive the project toward clinical translation.

Parkinson’s disease, the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s disease, is estimated to affect over 10 million people worldwide. Characterized by the progressive loss of dopamine neurons and the accumulation of pathological α-syn aggregates in the brain, PD leads to debilitating motor symptoms (e.g., tremors, rigidity) and non-motor complications (e.g., cognitive decline, loss of sense of smell).

Current diagnosis relies heavily on clinical symptom assessment, which often delays detection until significant neuronal damage has occurred. Early-stage symptoms, such as subtle movement changes or sleep disturbances, frequently overlap with other conditions, complicating accurate diagnosis. Current clinical imaging tools of PD (e.g., DATScan) provide valuable insights into dopaminergic dysfunction or metabolic changes—but crucially, they lack molecular specificity for biomarkers. This limitation has hindered timely intervention and the development of disease modifying therapies aimed at halting or reversing disease progression.

SynuSight R&D team leveraged structural biology approaches to systematically determine the molecular architectures of α-Syn fibrils and probe the binding specificity between candidate molecules and this pathological biomarker. These insights enabled the rational design of FD4, a novel PET tracer engineered for selective α-Syn fibrils targeting. Preclinical and early clinical data demonstrate, a robust and selective binding to α-syn fibrils and allows identification of α-syn pathology in the early stage of synucleinopathies, enabling proactive therapeutic strategies.

Roger Gunn, CSO at Xing Imaging, and PI says, “This represents a pivotal opportunity to advance one of the most promising alpha-synuclein PET tracers in humans, ensuring its full characterization and optimization for imaging in Parkinson’s disease. We are deeply grateful for the support of the Michael J. Fox Foundation and share their commitment to developing a robust PET imaging biomarker targeting the core pathological hallmark of PD. Such a biomarker would significantly enhance our understanding of the disease, its progression, and will play a central role in clinical trials evaluating new treatments.”

Roger Fan, CEO at SynuSight Biotech, says ‘We are deeply honored to receive support from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for the development of the 18F-FD4 program. Our early Investigator-Initiated Trials have already demonstrated superior imaging performance in patients with PD, MSA, and RBD. Backed by the MJFF grant, we are now well-positioned to accelerate our validation efforts through additional clinical studies with XingImaging and fully unleash the potential of 18F-FD4 to advance the development of disease-modifying therapies. Ultimately, we believe this tracer has the potential to transform the diagnosis and management of diseases and benefit millions of patients worldwide.’

“We continue to monitor the tremendous progress and advances in alpha-synuclein imaging,” says Jamie Eberling, PhD, senior vice president of research resources at The Michael J. Fox Foundation. “XingImaging and SynuSight Biotech’s F-FD4 programming is another hopeful step toward an urgently needed tool that could clearly measure, quantify and visualize brain pathology in Parkinson’s disease.”

About SynuSight:
SynuSight Biotech is committed to pioneering transformative diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for neurodegenerative diseases through cutting-edge scientific expertise and innovative technology platforms, ultimately benefiting millions of patients worldwide.

SynuSight team specializes in studying the misfolding and pathological aggregation of proteins such as α-Syn, tau, and Aβ. By integrating cutting-edge technologies like Cryo-EM electron diffraction, Helical filament imaging, and In-cell NMR spectroscopy, SynuSight has built unparalleled expertise in key neurodegenerative disease targets, unlocking new possibilities for innovative therapeutic molecule development.

About XingImaging:
XingImaging is based in New Haven, CT with over 24,000 sq ft. of research space and over 50 staff members. Our team is organized into Clinical, Chemistry, and Imaging Sciences divisions with administrative and project support including Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Imaging and Data Management Services, Information Technology, and Business Operations.

The new generation of SERES Super Range-Extender System is based on “Saiyi (C2E) Range-Extender Architecture” and “RoboREX Intelligent Control Technology”, featuring three leading advantages: quiet, highly integrated, and highly efficient. The C2E Architecture adopts All-in-ONE integrated design concept, with deep integration of engine and motor, control systems, and housing to enable ultimate compactness and cost control. RoboREX revolutionizes the range-extender’s operating mode from passive to active control, enabling intelligent active energy management.

In terms of efficiency performance, the comprehensive fuel consumption is reduced by 15%, noise perception is reduced by 90%, the actual efficiency reaches 3.65 kWh/L, and the maximum thermal efficiency reaches 44.8%, leading among mass-produced range-extenders.

The distributed electric drive technology can significantly improve the drive experience with safety pleasure. SERES has always believed that “safety is the ultimate luxury”. SERES Power is actively developing the distributed e-drive systems, including dual-motor, three-motor, and four-motor distributed architecture, which can meet the power needs of vehicles from Class A to Class D.
