MetaOptics Begins Shipment of Metalens Smartphone and AI Smart Glasses to European and Japanese Customers for Evaluation

SINGAPORE, June 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — MetaOptics Ltd. (Catalist: 9MT) (“MetaOptics” or the “Company”), a leading-edge semiconductor optics company pioneering metalens technology, today announced that it has begun shipping evaluation units of its metalens-integrated 5G smartphone and AI smart glasses to prospective customers in Europe, Japan and the Philippines, allowing leading consumer electronics brands, telecommunications operators and original design manufacturers in these regions to evaluate, assess and test MetaOptics’ glass-based metalens optical modules in their own development environments, for eventual integration into their own systems and applications.

Glass-based metalenses replace bulky, multi-element lens stacks with a single ultra-thin optical layer, enabling thinner, smaller and more heat-resistant modules than conventional optics. With the ability to design, mass-produce and test metalenses at scale on its 4-inch and 12-inch platforms, MetaOptics delivers reliable, mass production-ready solutions for customers looking to adopt metalens technology in their next-generation products, across smartphones, AR/VR wearables, automotive sensing and beyond.

“Shipping evaluation units to customers is a defining step in our journey from showcase to mass adoption,” said MetaOptics Executive Chairman Thng Chong Kim. “The response to our metalens-powered devices at CES 2026 was exceptional, and we are now putting evaluation units directly into the hands of demanding customers in the world’s most discerning electronics markets. Their feedback will help us refine these products and accelerate the path toward mass adoption of metalens technology in everyday devices.”

Metalens-Integrated 5G Smartphone

The MetaOptics 5G smartphone evaluation unit features MetaOptics’ ultra-thin metalens optical module, which enables a sleek, bump-free back cover, featuring a front-facing VGA colour camera for video calls, alongside a non-contact metalens 3D biometric fingerprint module that detects high-resolution 3D fingerprint through the display for secure, touch-free authentication, all powered by the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCM6490 platform.

Metalens-Integrated AI Smart Glasses

The MetaOptics AI smart glasses incorporate a compact colour metalens camera system, enabling intuitive gesture-based control. Its lightweight, sporty form factor is designed for all-day wearability, all powered by the Qualcomm AR1 Snapdragon platform.

Next-Generation Colour Camera Module

As part of its product roadmap, MetaOptics has completed the design of the next-generation 12MP colour metalens camera module and plans to showcase it at CES 2027.

As part of its broader commercialisation efforts, MetaOptics intends to extend the evaluation programme to additional customers and markets over time. The Company will provide updates on customer engagement and commercialisation progress as appropriate.

About MetaOptics Ltd

MetaOptics Ltd (Catalist: 9MT) is a vertically integrated designer and manufacturer of metalens-based optical components and products, headquartered in Singapore. Founded in 2021, the Company uses semiconductor processes to pioneer glass-based colour metalenses and produce them at scale on both 4-inch and 12-inch platforms. Its portfolio spans metalenses, metalens camera modules, metalens manufacturing equipment and metalens IoT products, which customers integrate into applications including smartphones, contactless 3D biometrics, AR/VR devices, pico projectors, LiDAR and automotive sensing. MetaOptics aims to deliver high-performance optics with the reliability and scalability demanded by today’s most innovative technology brands.

From Millennium Xuan Paper to Contemporary Visual Storytelling: China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Sets Off Again

HEFEI, CHINA – Media OutReach Newswire – 26 June 2026 – On June 23, the realist drama Zhong Mo Yuan premiered in the prime-time slot on mainstream television in China. Centered on Xuan paper-making techniques, an element of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, the series uses this centuries-old craft as a narrative thread, presenting its continuity and renewal in contemporary life through a visual storytelling approach.

The Four Treasures of the Study—brush, ink, paper, and inkstone—are an essential part of China’s traditional writing culture. Among them, Xuan paper serves as a key material medium, long used in calligraphy and Chinese painting. Unlike the static presentation typical of traditional craft-themed works, this drama transforms Xuan paper from a “craft object” into a “narrative vehicle,” allowing complex processes such as papermaking, sheet lifting, drying, and cutting to naturally unfold within character-driven stories and everyday settings. In doing so, audiences are able to perceive the tangible warmth and contemporary expression of an intangible cultural heritage practice as the plot progresses.

From a Single Sheet of Paper, a Broader Way of Eastern Living Comes Into View

Xuan paper is not merely a material; it represents a centuries-old Eastern way of writing and cultural expression. Starting from this point, the series extends its perspective into a broader cultural context: the relationship between people and craftsmanship, the dialogue between tradition and modernity, and the evolving pathways through which manual skills persist within today’s industrial landscape.

In its narrative approach, the work brings together interactions between a younger generation and master artisans, making “inheritance” no longer an abstract concept, but a series of real choices and actions. In this way, intangible cultural heritage enters contemporary discourse in a more immersive and relatable form.

Bringing Intangible Cultural Heritage to the World Is Not Only About the Work Itself

In recent years, Chinese intangible cultural heritage represented by Xuan paper has been increasingly entering the global field of vision through multiple channels.

On one hand, through state-level media and international communication platforms, content related to intangible cultural heritage continues to be integrated into multilingual dissemination systems, building broader baseline awareness. On the other hand, with the development of streaming media and digital platforms, more and more film and television works rooted in traditional Chinese culture are reaching overseas audiences in lighter, more visually driven formats.

From Visual Narrative to Lived Experience: Intangible Cultural Heritage Is Forming New Communication Pathways

The significance of Zhong Mo Yuan lies not only in telling a story about Xuan paper, but also in its alignment with current trends in intangible cultural heritage communication: culture is no longer simply displayed—it is experienced, understood, and re-created.

Alongside the dissemination and circulation of related visual content, Jing County in Anhui Province, a key origin of Xuan paper culture, has gradually entered the view of international cultural and artistic audiences. Relying on its well-preserved natural ecological environment, traditional handmade papermaking system, and continuously living cultural transmission, the region has been steadily improving a hybrid spatial structure that integrates heritage exhibition, craft experience, and cultural participation. This allows traditional craftsmanship to sustain its vitality through contemporary expression. When visual narratives connect with real-world sites and cultural spaces, intangible cultural heritage is no longer confined to museum-style presentation, but increasingly becomes a cultural resource that can enter everyday life and international exchange contexts.

Conclusion: A World Expressed Through a Single Sheet of Paper

Starting from a single sheet of Xuan paper, traditional Chinese craftsmanship is being seen, understood, and gradually integrated into a broader global cultural communication system in a more contemporary form.

Within this context, Zhong Mo Yuan offers a more expressive visual approach to intangible cultural heritage, allowing the world to perceive the finer layers and textures of Chinese culture through the story of a single sheet of paper.

Laos Reports Economic Growth as Inflation Slows to 7.4 Percent in June

Laos recorded 5 percent economic growth in the first half of 2026, while inflation slowed to 7.4 percent in June, according to the Bank of Laos and figures presented at the government’s first expanded cabinet meeting on 25 June.

State media reported that government revenue collection had reached 52 percent of its full-year 2026 target, while foreign exchange reserves remained sufficient to cover more than five months of imports.

The June inflation rate of 7.4 percent, reported separately by the Bank of Laos, marks a further decline and keeps inflation within the government’s target of below 8 percent as part of its broader macroeconomic stabilization efforts.

The latest figure continues a gradual easing trend in recent months. Inflation fell to 9 percent in May from 10.2 percent in April, according to the Lao Statistics Bureau, as lower fuel prices, reduced transport costs, and a more stable exchange rate helped ease price pressures.

Authorities attributed the improving outlook to stabilization measures, stronger revenue collection, and tighter macroeconomic management, which have helped curb inflation and support the value of the Lao kip.

The government said maintaining macroeconomic stability will remain a top priority in the second half of the year, alongside strengthening budget revenue, ensuring adequate fuel supplies, and supporting domestic production.

During the meeting, the cabinet also agreed in principle to a draft National Agenda on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction and a draft decree on sub-district administrative committees. The proposals aim to strengthen local governance, improve public administration, and support rural development, with relevant ministries instructed to finalize the drafts before approval.

Other priorities for the remainder of 2026 include reducing import dependence, expanding domestic production and exports, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, attracting investment, and advancing digital infrastructure and transport projects.

The government also pledged stronger action against cybercrime, drug trafficking, and illegal mining. Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone instructed ministries and local authorities to translate these priorities into concrete action plans with clear responsibilities and implementation deadlines.
