Hyundai Mobis to Use Eco-friendly Aluminum for Main Auto Components

  • The company introduces low-carbon aluminum using solar energy, signing a 15,000 tons contract with EGA.
  • Using low-carbon aluminum is expected to reduce carbon emissions to a quarter of the current level.
  • It has proactively introduced eco-friendly raw materials in response to the full-scale enforcement of the European Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) next year.
  • It plans to secure low-carbon aluminum in the long term in response to the transition to eco-friendly mobility such as EVs.

SEOUL, South Korea, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Hyundai Mobis (KRX 012330) will proactively apply low-carbon aluminum produced using solar power to the manufacturing of main automotive components starting this year. This is part of its concrete action plan for achieving the goal of carbon neutrality by 2045. Aluminum is a key material for the lightweighting of mobility, such as electric vehicles, and Hyundai Mobis plans to strengthen its green supply chain starting from the raw material procurement stage in response to the transition to eco-friendly mobility.

Hyundai Mobis announced on 2 that it has signed a contract with Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), a global aluminum producer, securing 15,000 tons of low-carbon green aluminum. EGA is a world-class aluminum producer headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the aluminum Hyundai Mobis has secured this time is low-carbon aluminum produced using solar power.

The 15,000 tons of low-carbon aluminum secured by Hyundai Mobis is the annual amount the company needs, which is worth about 62 billion Korean won. This is more than 20% of the total amount of aluminum the company purchased throughout the last year, which is 67,000 tons in total.

Low-carbon aluminum is called an eco-friendly material because carbon is less emitted during its manufacturing process. It is generally known that about 16.5 tons of carbon is emitted during the manufacturing of refining, smelting, and casting to produce one ton of aluminum. On the other hand, the carbon emissions of green aluminum produced by EGA using solar energy are about 4 tons, which is only a quarter of those of regular aluminum.

Hyundai Mobis plans to proactively respond to environmental regulations of governments around the world by using the green aluminum it introduced this year in the manufacture of main components such as chassis. In particular, as the European Union (EU) will fully enforce the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation from next year, Hyundai Mobis is expected to be able to minimize the impact of the regulation. The CBAM regulation is a program that calculates and charges the carbon emissions of products imported into Europe, targeting six carbon-intensive products: steel, aluminum, electricity, fertilizer, cement, and hydrogen.

Hyundai Mobis plans to continue to introduce low-carbon aluminum and make specific efforts to strengthen its ESG management and achieve its carbon neutrality goals. Hyundai Mobis plans to establish a strategic partnership with EGA in the first half of this year to secure a stable and systematic supply of low-carbon aluminum in the future.

“We will proactively respond to global environmental regulations by establishing a green supply chain and embody our efforts to reduce carbon emissions from the supply chain stage,” said Sun-woo Lee, senior vice president of purchasing, Hyundai Mobis.

Banking at the Bottom of the World: Diebold Nixdorf ATMs Now Serving Antarctica

With the addition of ATMs in McMurdo Station, Diebold Nixdorf now boasts a presence on all seven continents.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Diebold Nixdorf (NYSE: DBD), a world leader in transforming the way people bank and shop, announces the successful installation of two DN Series® ATMs at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Operated by Wells Fargo, the new cash dispensers replace the previously installed units, further enhancing accessibility to cash in one of the world’s most remote locations.

With the latest ATM installation at NSF McMurdo Station in Antarctica, Diebold Nixdorf is now the only provider with ATMs on all seven continents.
With the latest ATM installation at NSF McMurdo Station in Antarctica, Diebold Nixdorf is now the only provider with ATMs on all seven continents.

NSF McMurdo Station is Antarctica’s largest research and logistics hub, supporting a fluctuating population ranging from fewer than 200 residents in the winter to up to 1,100 individuals during the summer months (October through February). The ATMs play a crucial role in the station’s economy, providing residents with access to cash for daily transactions at cafes, the general store and the post office.

Chris Mande, Head of Branch Transaction Management at Wells Fargo, said: “Wells Fargo is proud to continue supporting the community at NSF McMurdo Station by providing reliable access to cash. The new Diebold Nixdorf ATMs will help ensure that all personnel there have the cash they need to participate in the local economy effectively. This is essential since the next closest ATMs are thousands of miles away.”

DN Series was designed for always-on availability and provides consumers with a more secure banking experience. While one ATM at the station is actively in use, the second serves as a backup for spare parts, facilitating uninterrupted service in this isolated area. With no conventional banking infrastructure in Antarctica, these machines are the only ATMs on the entire continent.

The ATMs are connected to DN AllConnectSM Data Engine, which leverages Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure availability. A dedicated team monitors technical data that is continuously aggregated and analyzed to identify an impending failure, enabling remote diagnostics. The ATM can be repaired by the trained staff at NSF McMurdo Station, or the Diebold Nixdorf service team can remotely guide them through the repair process.

Joe Myers, EVP of Global Banking at Diebold Nixdorf, said: “Our service team’s commitment to not only transporting and installing the DN Series ATMs but also thoroughly training the staff at NSF McMurdo Station underscores our commitment to delivering essential banking services where they are needed most. By focusing on service excellence and maintaining a strong global supply chain, we can deliver seamless banking solutions to even the most isolated locations.”

FWD Hong Kong forms partnerships to launch “Talk2Me Peer Supporter Training Certificate Programme” and “JA SparktheDream Wellness Workshop” to promote youth mental health

HONG KONG, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Youth mental health is one of the most widely discussed social issues in Hong Kong. This underscores the need for mental health support for youth. In response, FWD Hong Kong (“FWD”) has collaborated with two non-profit organisations, KELY Support Group and Junior Achievement Hong Kong, to provide mental health education and support, including “Talk2Me Peer Supporter Training Certificate Programme” and “JA SparktheDream Wellness Workshop”, which aim to raise awareness on mental health and foster “peer support” culture among primary and secondary students in Hong Kong.

FWD Hong Kong forms partnerships with non-profit organisations to raise awareness on mental health and foster “peer support” culture among the youth.
FWD Hong Kong forms partnerships with non-profit organisations to raise awareness on mental health and foster “peer support” culture among the youth.

The youth feel helpless in the face of mental health crisis

Between September 2024 and January 2025, KELY Support Group surveyed 1,273 Hong Kong secondary school students aged 13 to 18. The findings revealed significant challenges in mental health and emotional management among youth. Key issues include:

  • Overwhelmed by stress and emotions: 23% of students reported that they are constantly overwhelmed by stress and emotions, skewing higher for female students by 5% than male students.
  • Lack of confidence: 22% of students responded, “I can’t do anything right” and “There are more things I don’t like about myself than I like”. Furthermore, 63% of students expressed lacking hope about their future.
  • Difficulty in seeking help: a significant 32% of students indicated that they cannot find suitable ways to seek help when upset or overwhelmed.
  • Insufficient peer support: around 25% of students reported that they do not have friends or peers that can be trusted.

These statistics show that youth frequently feel isolated and helpless when confronting mental health challenges, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen mental health support services for the youth.

Paul Tse, Chief Marketing and Digital Officer of FWD Hong Kong and Macau, said, “FWD has always been committed to serving the community through meaningful projects and encouraging the public to care for their mental health. We hope that today’s youth, as the future of Hong Kong, can celebrate living and grow up happily. As we fund the launch of mental health-related programmes in collaboration with KELY Support Group and Junior Achievement Hong Kong, we hope to equip primary and secondary school students with skills to manage stress, cultivate positive thinking, and offer peer support. This aligns with FWD’s commitment to promoting early detection of mental health challenges while providing professional and appropriate treatment and rehabilitation by incorporating mental health protection into our products and services.”

FWD collaborates with community partners to promote mental health education, engaging nearly 1,000 students and 100 volunteers

FWD joined hands with KELY Support Group to launch the “Talk2Me Peer Supporter Training Certificate Programme“. Through a 10-hour training, the programme educates secondary school students on self-awareness and self-care, equipping them with skills to manage stress and provide peer support. Throughout the past year, the programme successfully trained approximately 80 secondary school students. FWD volunteers participated as mentors and collaborated with students to design community projects to support peers in need. Last year, FWD served as the platinum sponsor of Weez Walk 2024 and engaged its employees to participate and raise funds for youth mental health programmes. This provided a foundation to foster a closer collaboration with KELY Support Group.

In addition, since 2022, FWD has partnered with Junior Achievement Hong Kong to launch the “JA SparktheDream programme” to nurture financial literacy among primary school students. To date, the programme has benefited over 6,600 primary school students. This year, the partnership has expanded with the introduction of “JA SparktheDream Wellness Workshop“. The workshop integrates social and emotional learning to help primary school students build resilience in both financial well-being and mental health, empowering them to pursue their dreams. The initiative aims to benefit around 900 primary four to six students by 2025. FWD volunteers will lead group activities and discussions, teaching students about financial management skills and tackling life challenges with positive thinking and empathy.

Being the pioneer in integrating mental health coverage into medical insurance, FWD launched in 2022 the market-first1 mental health insurance “Mind Strength Protection Plan2. Additionally, the company has incorporated various mental health coverage and support services3 into selected medical and critical illness insurance plans, encouraging the public to proactively safeguard their mental and physical well-being.

1 Based on a comparison conducted on September 30, 2022, between FWD and the medical insurance offerings of major insurance companies in Hong Kong, FWD became the first insurer in Hong Kong to introduce benefits including outpatient consultations with psychiatrists/clinical psychologists, daily hospital cash benefits, post-hospitalisation outpatient consultations with psychiatrists/clinical psychologists, recuperation benefits, and monthly cash benefits (optional benefit).

Cisco’s 2025 Data Privacy Benchmark Study: Privacy landscape grows increasingly complex in the age of AI

News Summary

  • The Cisco 2025 Data Privacy Benchmark Study reveals increasing trust in global providers to protect and secure data
  • 86% of respondents support privacy legislation, recognizing its positive impact on business operations
  • While 96% confirm that privacy investments provide returns exceeding costs, organizations anticipate resources and spending will likely shift to AI in the coming year
  • AI familiarity is rising, with 63% being very familiar with Generative AI, but concern for unintended risks continue

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) today unveiled its 2025 Data Privacy Benchmark Study, offering a comprehensive analysis of privacy trends and their profound implications for businesses worldwide. As data privacy remains critical to establishing business value and trust, the study uncovers a complex landscape where the demand for local data storage intersects with reliance on global providers’ expertise. Conducted across 12 countries with insights from 2,600 privacy and security professionals, the eighth edition Data Privacy Benchmark Study demonstrates the growing importance of establishing solid data privacy foundations to unleash the full potential of AI.

Cisco 2025 Data Privacy Benchmark Study
Cisco 2025 Data Privacy Benchmark Study

“Privacy and proper data governance are foundational to Responsible AI,” said Dev Stahlkopf, Cisco Chief Legal Officer. “For organizations working toward AI readiness, privacy investments establish essential groundwork, helping to accelerate effective AI governance.”

Concerns around safety and security drive data residency decisions

Despite increased operational costs of data localization, 90% of organizations see local storage as inherently safer, while 91% (up five percentage points year-over-year) trust global providers for better data protection. These dual data points reveal today’s complex privacy landscape: global providers are valued for their capabilities, but local storage is perceived as safer.

“The drive for data localization reflects rising interest in data sovereignty,” said Harvey Jang, Cisco’s Chief Privacy Officer. “Yet, a thriving, global digital economy relies on trusted cross-border data flows. Interoperable frameworks such as the Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules Forum will play a vital role in enabling growth while effectively addressing crucial privacy and security concerns.”

Building Trust Through Compliance: The Business Advantage of Privacy Laws

Privacy legislation remains a cornerstone of customer trust, with 86% of respondents noting a positive impact on their organizations, up from 80% last year. Despite the costs associated with compliance, a resounding 96% of organizations report that the returns significantly outweigh the investments.

This sentiment is echoed by the increasing consumer awareness and confidence in privacy laws mentioned in the 2024 Cisco Consumer Privacy Survey, where most global consumers (53%) said they are aware of their country’s privacy laws. Among those aware, 81% feel confident in their ability to protect their data, compared to just 44% of those unaware of such laws.

Privacy: The Cornerstone of Responsible AI in the GenAI Era

As familiarity with AI increases—63% of respondents are now very familiar with Generative AI (GenAI)—concerns remain steady year-over-year. Despite many organizations reporting significant business gains from GenAI, data privacy is still a major risk. Notably, 64% of respondents worry about inadvertently sharing sensitive information publicly or with competitors, yet nearly half admit to inputting personal employee or non-public data into GenAI tools. This gap highlights the need for tools like Cisco’s AI Defense which safeguard against the misuse of AI tools and data leakage.

In turn, there is an increased focus on investing in AI governance processes among respondents, where an overwhelming 99% of respondents anticipate reallocating resources from privacy budgets to AI initiatives in the future. The 2024 Cisco AI Readiness Index emphasizes this trend, revealing that IT budget allocations are anticipated to nearly double in the coming year as companies work to safely deploy AI technology. Cisco will continue to monitor this shift in future research, recognizing that both privacy and AI governance play a combined role in establishing safe and reliable AI systems.

AI and Privacy: Catalysts for Business Growth and Customer Loyalty

Cisco’s annual study highlights the need for organizations to balance local data storage, global expertise, and privacy in an AI-driven world. It emphasizes the need to view data governance as an essential strategic investment for aligning AI strategies with privacy, ensuring sustainable growth and consumer trust.
