Sino Jet Releases 2024 Carbon Emissions Report: 11.4% Year-on-Year Reduction in Total Emissions, Showcasing the Effectiveness of Its Green Aviation Strategy

HONG KONG, April 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — April 22, 2025 — World Earth Day marks the fifth year since China launched its dual-carbon strategy. On this occasion, Sino Jet, a leading business jet operator in the Asia-Pacific region, has released its 2024 Annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report. Despite continued business growth, the report shows that Sino Jet reduced its total carbon emissions by 11.4% year-on-year and by 21.2% compared to the 2021 baseline. This progress underscores the company’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality across its owned fleet, ground operations, and offices by 2025, and positions it well for full business-wide carbon neutrality by 2035.

In the aviation transport sector, where greenhouse gas emissions are a major concern, Sino Jet’s Scope 1 emissions (from direct fuel combustion) constituted 93.63% of the total emissions in 2024, yet they saw an 8.7% year-on-year reduction. Scope 2 emissions, which include the purchase of electricity and heat, primarily for office buildings, decreased by 4.25%. The most notable achievement was in Scope 3 emissions, which encompass indirect emissions in the value chain, seeing a remarkable 43.2% reduction—a significant milestone within the industry.

It is noteworthy that the substantial decrease in Scope 3 emissions can be directly linked to the company’s comprehensive implementation of a refined energy management strategy. This strategy involves continuous improvements in energy efficiency, innovative procurement practices that prioritize low-carbon suppliers, and partnerships with new energy vehicle brands to establish a green transportation network. Additionally, the company has embraced low-carbon alternatives in its operations, such as conducting “online ribbon-cutting” ceremonies instead of traditional in-person events, effectively reducing carbon emissions. These efforts underscore Sino Jet’s systematic approach to carbon emission control.

Sino Jet was the first business aviation company in China to announce a carbon neutrality roadmap. Its strategic foresight continues to set a benchmark in the industry’s transition toward low-carbon operations. The company has established a progressive three-stage decarbonization framework: a short-term goal of carbon neutrality for its owned fleet and ground operations by 2025; a mid-term plan to align managed fleets with carbon neutrality by 2035 while reducing per capita carbon intensity by 20%; and a long-term target of reducing per capita carbon intensity by 50% by 2050.

Sino Jet identifies digital aviation as the foundation for green aviation. By streamlining management through efficient and precise processes, the company has optimized operations and leveraged data-driven decision-making to enhance resource utilization and environmental control. It has developed a comprehensive enterprise carbon management system that integrates digital modules throughout the entire aircraft lifecycle. This system enables accurate tracking and intelligent analysis of data related to flight operations, energy procurement, and staff commuting, generating tailored emission reduction plans that lower carbon intensity while enhancing client experience and aircraft asset value.

As a pioneer in green aviation, Sino Jet recognizes that the path to sustainability involves not only reducing emissions in existing operations but also innovating in green business practices. In line with this vision, the company is at the forefront of deploying a smart travel ecosystem and actively participating in the development of continuous airworthiness standards for eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft. This initiative aims to provide a systematic solution for creating a “business jet + eVTOL” three-dimensional travel model. The eVTOL, with its advantages in safety, efficiency, environmental friendliness, and economic benefits, seamlessly integrates with business jets to offer customers a premium one-stop travel service, significantly enhancing the value of time.

As the 2025 carbon neutrality milestone approaches, Sino Jet is addressing a broader industry question: how can the high-end service industry reconcile growth with carbon reduction and achieve value re-creation? The company’s answer lies in positioning carbon neutrality as a driver of high-quality productivity—ensuring every gram of carbon emitted contributes to greater economic value. This forward-thinking perspective not only reflects Sino Jet’s deep commitment to sustainable development but also offers valuable insight and inspiration for the entire industry.

The polling, conducted across key economies and emerging markets by Savanta and commissioned by E3G, Beyond Fossil Fuels and We Mean Business Coalition, underscores an accelerating corporate shift away from fossil fuels towards renewables. Powering up: Business perspectives on shifting to renewable electricity also serves as a warning – the majority of businesses suggest they will relocate if governments fail to act.

Business leaders were surveyed in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Türkiye, UK and US.

Key findings:

  • Competitiveness at stake: Half of business leaders say they will relocate their operations (52%) and supply chains (49%) to markets with better access to renewables-based power systems within five years.
  • Energy security is paramount: Three-quarters (75%) of executives associate renewables with stronger energy security. 78% of German business leaders believe an accelerated renewable transition will reduce Germany’s exposure to volatile energy imports.

  • Swift transition from coal: Nearly nine in ten (87%) of business executives who want their government to prioritise investment in renewables want them to stop using coal-fired electricity within the next decade. More than two-fifths (43%) of mid-sized and large businesses plan to transition away from using coal within their own operations by 2030, with over one quarter (27%) intending to follow suit by 2035.
  • No room for new gas: Two-thirds (67%) of executives want coal phased out and replaced with renewables, grids and storage- without locking in new gas infrastructure.

DFI Retail Group Launches Low-Carbon Rice Pilot Programme Reduces at Least 30% in GHG Emissions

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 22 April 2025 – DFI Retail Group (DFI or the Group), a leading Asian retailer with diverse business formats, has launched a low-carbon rice cultivation pilot programme in 2024 in Thailand. This initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the rice industry. By implementing new farming techniques, DFI seeks to promote the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices and enhance environmental awareness among its supply chains. This innovative programme successfully produced 110,000kg of certified low-carbon rice in 2024, achieving a minimum 30% reduction in GHG emissions on the rice fields compared to conventional cultivation methods.

DFI Retail Group launches Low-Carbon Rice Pilot Programme in Thailand
DFI Retail Group launches Low-Carbon Rice Pilot Programme in Thailand

Rice is an important commodity across Asia, where 85% of the world’s production occurs, with Thailand ranking as the sixth-largest rice producer globally. In Hong Kong alone, the annual consumption of approximately 255,105 metric tons 1, 2 of rice results in around 1,060,982 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent 3, 4 emissions — comparable to driving around the world 106,532 times 5.

This crop constitutes one of DFI’s top Scope 3 product categories, accounting for approximately 6% of total Scope 3 emissions based on 2023 data. Traditional rice farming involves flooding fields for extended periods, which creates anaerobic conditions in the soil. This lack of oxygen allows microbes to release methane—a GHG with a global warming potential 28 times greater than carbon dioxide—into the atmosphere, significantly impacting climate change.

In response to this environmental challenge, DFI collaborated with agricultural experts, the Thai government, and researchers to develop a low-carbon rice cultivation programme. The pilot programme partnered with 30 local farmers to implement sustainable farming techniques, including:

  • Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD): Instead of the traditional 120 days of continuous flooding of the rice fields, the programme uses an irrigation technique called AWD, reducing flooding to about 10 days. This approach not only conserves water but also reduces methane emissions while maintaining production yields.
  • Straw Burning Prohibition: Support for farmers to eliminate open-field burning of rice straw, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions and air pollution.
  • Soil and Fertiliser Management: Closely monitored soil quality and fertiliser application, with guidance from agricultural experts. Soil samples were analysed to optimise nutrient use and minimise nitrous oxide emissions.

In 2025, DFI would continue with the programme and aims to launch 200,000kg of low-carbon rice under the Yu Pin King brand in the Hong Kong market. This initiative will raise public awareness and promote sustainable agriculture across supply chains. DFI will also explore further partnerships and low-carbon sourcing opportunities to enhance its impact.

Erica Chan, Group Chief Legal, Governance and Corporate Affairs Officer shared, “Beyond value and quality, we are committed to sustainability. This programme exemplifies our dedication to pursuing sustainable goals. We wish to influence the industry, our stakeholders across the value chain to take collective action towards a sustainable future.”

Fann Yuen, Group Own Brand Director added, “Customers prefer sustainable products but not at a higher cost. Guided by DFI’s ‘customer-first’ approach, we are dedicated to providing sustainable options that are affordable.”

The rice produced through this low-carbon cultivation programme is now available under Wellcome’s Own Brand Yu Pin King Thai Jasmine Fragrant Rice (5kg). Customers can find it on shelves at designated Wellcome stores in Hong Kong and purchase it online.

DFI remains devoted to offering more sustainable choices for customers in the future, ensuring that sustainability aligns with affordability.

Chinese Executive Arrested in Bangkok Building Collapse Scandal

Thai authorities have arrested Zhang Chuanling, an executive of China Railway No.10 Engineering Group, a subsidiary of China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC), as part of a widening investigation into the collapse of a 30-storey building in Bangkok.

The incident followed a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and was felt across Thailand on 28 March.

Zhang, a Chinese national, was taken into custody on 19 April. He currently faces charges for operating a construction business illegally as a foreigner and conspiring to use nominee shareholders, according to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

The Criminal Court has approved a 12-day detention order for Zhang, marking the initial period of legal custody, the Standard reported.

As CREC owns a 49 percent stake in the joint venture responsible for the project, the remaining 51 percent ownership is distributed among three Thai nationals. The men, Manas Srianan, Prachuap Sirikhet, and Sophon Meechai, surrendered to authorities on 21 April following Zhang’s arrest.

All three are alleged to be nominee shareholders and are charged with violating the Foreign Business Act, which prohibits foreign ownership in certain sectors. They have denied all allegations.

The collapsed building was part of a project by the Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited (ITD)-CREC Joint Venture. The structure, once completed, was intended to serve as the new headquarters for the Thai State Audit Office.

Although the 28-March earthquake epicenter was located hundreds of kilometers away, the Bangkok high-rise was the only major structure in the capital to suffer a complete collapse, raising serious questions about construction standards and regulatory oversight.
