Beko Scales Up Climate Action with Green Electricity and Refurbishment

  • Commitment to be a net zero company by 2050 with ambitious 2030 targets including using 100% green electricity in all manufacturing facilities
  • 114,468 products refurbished in 2024
  • 61.9% of turnover from energy-efficient products; 71.5% from low-carbon products

ISTANBUL, July 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Beko, a leader in home appliances, launched its 2024 Integrated Report, themed around scientist Carl Sagan’s profound depiction of Earth as the “pale blue dot.” The metaphor underscores our planet’s fragility and our collective duty to “preserve and cherish the only home we’ve ever known.”

In a world in flux—at a time when sustainability is losing priority in boardrooms—Beko remains steadfast. Its purpose is clear: to inspire sustainable living in every home. This purpose is backed by concrete actions, including a pathway to 100% green electricity by 2030 and a global refurbishment network that extended the life of over 114,000 appliances in 2024.

As a recognized sustainability leader, earning the highest score in its industry in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment for the sixth consecutive year[i], Beko remains resolved in its commitment to both people and planet. The company was recently ranked 17th among the world’s most sustainable companies by TIME Magazine and Statista, topping in its industry and appearing on the list for the second time. These achievements highlight Beko’s robust climate strategy, alongside its continued progress in ESG transparency, product efficiency, supply chain responsibility, and social inclusion.

The first of its kind from Beko, the integrated report aligns with the International Integrated Reporting Framework (IIRC), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Türkiye Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS), and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). It includes a double materiality assessment, evaluating both how sustainability issues affect Beko’s business and how Beko’s operations impact society and the environment, combining stakeholders’ perspectives with internal analyses to drive tangible actions. This approach reflects the company’s long-term strategy—affirming that sustainability is not solely a business priority but a shared global imperative.

Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Beko, said: “Securing a net-zero future requires absolute focus and concrete action. We are committed to 100% green electricity in manufacturing by 2030 and have dramatically scaled our refurbishment programme. But that’s only part of the story. We’re continuously working to improve water and waste management, drive down emissions across our supply chain, and design products that do more with less. I’m very grateful for our teams and partners who champion these responsible practices, helping us build a greener, more circular economy. This report showcases how Beko embeds sustainability into every decision, from product design to operations and corporate governance, as we work to protect our ‘pale blue dot’.”

Celebrating 70 years of innovation, Beko continues to lead with purpose and consistency, keeping sustainability at its core:

  • Beko is on a path to Net Zero by 2050, with bold interim targets including using 100% green electricity in all manufacturing facilities by 2030. The company’s climate strategy addresses Scope 3 emissions—which account for 99% of its total footprint, with approximately 80% arising during product use phase.
  • Beko has rapidly scaled up its renewable energy investments, reaching a total installed capacity of 90.2 MWp—an almost 30-fold increase in just four years.
  • Beko’s circular economy strategy is driving transformation across design, production, and end-of-life product use. Refurbishment is a core enabler of its product lifecycle model. In 2024, the company’s global refurbishment network extended the life of 114,468 appliances. These efforts help customers reduce carbon footprints while extending product utility and reducing e-waste.
  • Beko has embedded sustainability into its leadership DNA by linking executive compensation indirectly to environmental performance. Targets for reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, along with supply chain sustainability integration, are included in the scorecards of key C-suite leaders.

As a member of and signatory to multiple global initiatives, Beko demonstrates its commitment to collaborative climate action. The integrated report is a call to action for stakeholders to unite in preserving Earth’s sustainability. For a comprehensive view of Beko’s initiatives, visit https://www.bekocorporate.com/.

Representatives from HCSA Community Services, Tan Tock Seng Hospital Gastroenterology Department, National Centre for Infectious Diseases, Communicable Diseases Agency, Home Team Medical Services Division (MHA), Tzu-Chi Foundation (Singapore), Gilead Sciences, Singapore Prison Service, Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association, Prison Fellowship Singapore, Halfway house partners
Representatives from HCSA Community Services, Tan Tock Seng Hospital Gastroenterology Department, National Centre for Infectious Diseases, Communicable Diseases Agency, Home Team Medical Services Division (MHA), Tzu-Chi Foundation (Singapore), Gilead Sciences, Singapore Prison Service, Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association, Prison Fellowship Singapore, Halfway house partners

This marks a significant step towards the Educate, Test, Treat! (ETT) initiative, launched in 2022 with the funding support of Gilead Sciences. Witnessed by Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Digital Development and Information, the MoU strengthens closer collaboration between community and healthcare stakeholders to expand HCV screening, and make care and treatment more accessible to prevent serious liver diseases.

Through this latest phase of the ETT Initiative, a continued partnership with TTSH has been formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration will strengthen follow-up care by combining fast, saliva-based Hepatitis C antibody testing, which avoids the need for blood draws or finger pricks, with access to specialist medical support.

From August 2025 to the end of 2026, the initiative aims to screen up to 600 individuals. TTSH will provide a comprehensive suite of services, including educational outreach, conducting HCV screenings, confirming chronic HCV infection with HCV viral load testing in the clinic, assessing for early signs of liver fibrosis, prescribing antiviral therapy, and confirming cure after treatment completion. The hospital will also connect patients with HCSA for financial guidance and support services.

The first phase of ETT initiative in 2023 achieved its target recruitment of 210 participants. Phase 2, launched in 2024, continues to aim to make Hepatitis C screening more accessible to ensure individuals receive timely medical care at the hospital. This phase expands its outreach by working closely with more halfway houses, targeting up to 400 participants for screening.  To date, Phase 2, which will complete in 2025, has reached 85% of its screening target Among them, 93% of participants who were tested HCV Antibody positive, and 68.5% of those who were confirmed with active HCV infection have received early and appropriate medical treatment. This progress has been made possible through strong collaboration among halfway houses and program partners like Gilead Sciences and Tzu Chi Foundation, providing essential medical, financial, and social support.

“This partnership marks a significant step to support former drug offenders in reclaiming their health and dignity. By breaking down barriers to care, we are not only treating a disease, but we are also restoring hope,” said Mrs Kim Lang Khalil, Chief Executive Officer, HCSA Community Services.

“Tan Tock Seng Hospital remains committed to delivering specialist care beyond hospital walls and into the community. Through close collaboration with participating halfway houses, we are making tangible progress toward turning the vision of Hepatitis C elimination among former drug offenders in Singapore into reality,” said Dr Yew Kuo Chao, Senior Consultant from the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, NHG Health.

“At Gilead, we remain deeply committed to working closely and collaboratively with local partners to reach vulnerable populations, reduce health disparities, and ensure that every individual—regardless of background—has access to the care they need. In support of the WHO’s hepatitis elimination goal, Gilead is proud to collaborate with HCSA Community Services and other local partners. We are encouraged to see this network grow stronger year by year, reflecting the power of partnership in driving meaningful change,” said Ms. Cathy Su, General Manager, Taiwan, Hong Kong & Singapore, Gilead Sciences.

Doosan Robotics Accelerates Push to Become an AI Robot Solutions Leader

— Acquires 89.59% stake in U.S. automation engineering firm ONExia
— Strengthens future growth engine with AI•humanoid technology•top-tier talent and builds an R&D Innovation center

EXTON, Pa. and SEONGNAM, South Korea, July 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Doosan Robotics is stepping up its transformation into a global intelligent robot solutions provider, advancing a multifaceted growth strategy that includes international acquisitions, expert recruitment, and organizational realignment—all aimed at leading the emerging Physical AI era.

Doosan Robotics acquires 89.59% stake in U.S. automation engineering firm ONExia.
Doosan Robotics acquires 89.59% stake in U.S. automation engineering firm ONExia.

On July 28, Doosan Robotics’ board of directors approved the acquisition of an 89.59% stake in ONExia, a U.S.-based robotics system integrator and automation engineering firm headquartered in Pennsylvania. The deal, valued at approximately USD 25.9 million (KRW 35.6 billion), was formalized with a stock purchase agreement (SPA) and participation in a capital increase.

Founded in 1984, ONExia delivers end-to-end automation services, from system design and manufacturing to implementation. The company has established a strong presence in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and packaging by delivering solutions that boost productivity and reduce operational costs. In recent years, ONExia has focused on developing its own collaborative robotic systems tailored to end-of-line (EOL) processes—such as palletizing, box assembly, and packaging—which are in high demand across North America. As a result, the company has achieved consistent average annual sales growth of around 30%.

Doosan Robotics views the acquisition as a key stepping stone toward accelerating its global competitiveness in the intelligent robotics market. The move signals a strategic shift from a hardware-focused business model toward a more integrated platform centered on AI and software-based robotics solutions.

ONExia brings to the table not only its advanced engineering capabilities and experience in developing industry-specific robotics systems, but also 25 years of accumulated automation data and project execution know-how. These assets are expected to directly enhance Doosan Robotics’ AI capabilities and solution development, particularly in areas where data-driven intelligence is critical.

In parallel with this acquisition, Doosan Robotics is ramping up its investments in internal R&D. The company is in the final stages of recruiting specialized talent across robotics R&D, AI, software development, quality assurance, and corporate strategy. It is also undergoing a structural reorganization of its R&D division, placing greater focus on AI, software, and humanoid technologies. Additionally, a new R&D Innovation Center, designed to provide an optimal development environment, is scheduled for completion within the third quarter of this year.

Kevin (Minpyo) Kim, CEO of Doosan Robotics, stated:

“This acquisition marks an important milestone as we take tangible steps to strengthen our global presence, internalize AI technologies, and develop future-ready solutions. ONExia’s expertise and established position in the U.S. market will create powerful synergies.”

He added,

To position ourselves as a global leader in intelligent robotics and drive the future of Physical AI, we remain committed to investing in R&D, strategic M&A, and talent.

Beijing Review: The Across the Pacific: China-U.S. Youth Dialogue for a Shared Future program concluded in Shanghai.

BEIJING, July 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — On July 22, the Across the Pacific: China-U.S. Youth Dialogue for a Shared Future program officially came to a close in Shanghai.

The story never ends! On July 22, the Across the Pacific: China-#US Youth Dialogue for a Shared Future program concluded in Shanghai. From July 7 to 21, 25 young delegates traveled across #Beijing, #Xi’an, #Suzhou, and #Shanghai–bridging cultures and building friendships. A rising tide lifts all boats, and here’s to the wonderful journey we took together!

At the closing ceremony, 25 Chinese and American university students, brought together by the International Student Conferences’ 5th China-America Student Conference, came together to revisit their 16-day journey in China—through presentations and shared reflections.

While in Shanghai, the delegates visited Fudan University’s China Institute, where they engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on the future of China-U.S. relations with Professor Zhang Weiwei.

They also visited the U.S.-China Business Council’s Shanghai Office and explored a host of urban landmarks, including the Yu Garden and the Bund.

From July 7 to 21, the group traveled across Beijing, Xi’an, Suzhou and Shanghai. They visited China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. embassy in Beijing and many other institutions, and also took part in a series of dialogues and exchange activities.

This event is cohosted by the China International Communications Group (CICG) Center for the Americas, the U.S.-based International Student Conference and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, with support from Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Michael Alexander Buzzy

Just the ability to connect with so many passionate, intelligent and caring individuals and to work on shared solutions around topics that impact all of us—the ability to work in a cross-cultural manner on bilateral issues for a more hopeful future—was easily one of the most amazing experiences of my life, especially through this conference. It has forever left an indelible mark on my soul, and I feel very privileged for the opportunity and honored to have been able to participate.

Zhang Chenglin

The moment that left the deepest impression on me was our conversation with spokesperson Mao Ning.

Li Zeming

When I stepped into the Blue Hall for the first time and saw the familiar setting in real life, I was beyond words.

Dahlia Townley-Bakewell

It might be a bit strange—I’ve been studying Chinese for six years, but this is my first time visiting Chinese mainland. I’ve always been very eager to learn more about the country, so I’m truly happy that I finally have the chance to be here and to use the language I’ve been learning for so long.

Henry Frederick Gregory Collins

I live in a really small town that has 3,000 people. So being in a city like Shanghai or Beijing is just crazy, and I think it’s something that will really stick with me. I don’t see this being my last time in China. I’m really excited about the idea of coming back.

Hannah Kim

My favorite moment was taking one of those shared bicycles and riding down the streets of Shanghai, just going alongside all the cars and motorbikes next to me. It was such a thrilling experience and such a fun time.

Nicholas Tristan Sarris

I think the most memorable thing was when we were walking around Xi’an in hanfu (traditional attire of the Han Chinese), which I thought was a really nice display of the cross-cultural relationships we’re trying to build.

Noah Kekoa Candelario

The biggest moment for me was going to the Suzhou Museum. I really enjoyed the architecture. I often forget that art and beauty, including architecture, makes me feel relaxed and at home, and that’s a feeling I haven’t had in a while.

Yang Yiting

One of the most memorable moments for me was watching The Wandering Earth one evening in Suzhou. We all cried. The fact that we could lose ourselves in an extremely moving cinematic moment was, for me, the highlight of this trip.

Krislyn Rose Massey

China is a beautiful country, and though I became known for liking all the things most people don’t, like douzhi (a fermented mung bean beverage) and snacks that others tend to turn away from.

Gina Lynn Egitto

I can ask a question on Xiaohongshu and get 400 replies—and that’s amazing. But I don’t know those people. I don’t know their age, their faces, their personalities or where they come from. So it’s been incredible to actually meet Chinese students here and also to meet locals. Every single person I’ve met in China has been so ready to pull out a translation app. They’ve been so willing to help, to look out for others and to be genuinely personable.

Justin Isaiah Seymour Welch

I think that’s meaningful because it allows me to feel comfortable in a new land and a culture that’s very different from my own back home. It lets me be myself and bring out parts of me that I didn’t know would be welcomed here.

Min Boyuan

We believe that communication and exchange between young people can transcend political differences and cultural boundaries.

Samuel Ross King

What stands out from this trip specifically is the kindness and eagerness of my fellow delegates–both on the American side and the Chinese side.

Liu Yuxuan

What impressed me the most was talking with the other delegates. When we went into deeper topics, I was really glad they responded with the utmost sincerity. They were all so genuine in sharing their thoughts and perspectives, for which I’m extremely thankful.

Erik Michael Larson

I think I’ll remember the times we spent laughing together, trying new foods together and just the jokes we shared and the fun we had

Li Liao

The most valuable part of this program, for me, was the friendship it has built. We all got along incredibly well. There are so many fun photos and memes in our Photocircle album. And I think 10 years from now, these are the memories I’ll cherish the most.

Lily Grace Deyi Berry

So looking back on this trip in 10 years, I think what will stand out to me most is the people—just all the friends I’ve made along the way and everyone I’ve met. They’ve all been such good hosts. I think that’s what I’ll remember most.

Wang Yiran

This program feels like a true highlight of my life—one of the most beautiful and unforgettable memories I’ll ever carry with me.

Wang Sirong

At the final closing ceremony, Dahlia gave me a bouquet of flowers. It was so unexpected. To me, it encapsulates the most valuable part of this program, which is how people-to-people exchanges between China and U.S. students can leave deep and lasting marks in the long course of history.

Kiran Alexis Nieves-Noel

A lot of people think that, because we’re a China-U.S. conference, we’re focused on international relations or policies. But the true mission of this conference is people-to-people exchange and heart-to-heart connection. I think that’s what really pushed me to persevere through all the difficulties and challenge myself to reach new heights, to move beyond my small town in Tennessee and toward bigger, better things, things that I’m unfamiliar with.

Shu Xin

This program was initially just a vague idea in my mind—so to see it become a reality fills me with a deep sense of fulfillment.

Zhu Zeyu

Actually, all of us Chinese delegates have been thinking—tomorrow, we might be going to the airport to see them off. And we’ve already started picturing the scene—the hugs, the tears and the farewells. It is not a sad moment, because we will meet again in the future.

Cecil Kenneth Brooks, Jr.

Breaking night in Beijing with Xiaofan and Yiran, or balancing soda cans on each other in Xi’an with Chenglin and Zeyu—maybe none of these moments alone will bring or guarantee world peace, but they do guarantee joy today. A rising tide lifts all boats, and the Pacific is already smiling on us.

Fuku AI Responds to Tech Layoffs in Singapore with Scalable AI Recruitment Platform

SINGAPORE, July 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As global tech companies implement large-scale workforce reductions in Singapore. Local HR-tech startup Fuku AI is addressing the employment gap with its AI recruitment platform designed to streamline hiring and support workforce realignment. With the vast number of tech jobs lost in Singapore this year, the nation’s technology sector is undergoing a critical transformation.

Kevin Gao, CEO, FuKu .ai
Kevin Gao, CEO, FuKu .ai

According to a Channel News Asia report, this wave of tech layoffs in Singapore reflects a broader global trend: companies are pivoting toward AI and automation to boost efficiency, phasing out redundant roles. While the short-term impact has disrupted careers, long-term demand for digitally skilled professionals remains strong.

These changes signal a recalibration across the tech industry, where hiring priorities are shifting toward AI-focused roles, data science, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.

Despite the disruption, Singapore remains a strategic hub for tech talent. Public and private sector employers are continuing to recruit in high-growth areas, as highlighted by recent job market insights from The Straits Times. However, with increasing pressure to hire efficiently, many employers are rethinking their approach to recruitment.

This is where Fuku AI’s automated recruitment platform plays a pivotal role. Using AI-driven hiring solutions, Fuku AI helps companies fill critical roles faster through:

  • AI talent mapping
  • AI-generated job-role matching
  • Automated candidate outreach
  • Streamlined candidate screening and evaluation

Companies using the platform report a reduction in recruitment cycles from weeks to days, with up to 80% shorter time-to-hire.

“Our AI-recruitment platform automates sourcing, screening, outreach—even interview evaluation—matching retrenched professionals and passive talent in under a minute,” said Kevin Gao, Founder and CEO of Fuku AI. “We’re helping companies find the right people, right now—without the delays of traditional hiring methods.”

Fuku AI is gaining traction as a cost-effective alternative to legacy hiring platforms, appealing to both SMEs and larger enterprises seeking AI in HR technologies to manage high-volume or specialized hiring needs.

Despite current disruptions in the job market, Fuku AI positions itself as a vital force in accelerating employment recovery. The platform’s mission is to support both displaced professionals and growing companies—delivering future-ready hiring tools for a future-ready workforce.
