Lao athletes will compete in four categories in the 31st Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5-21.
Assistant to the Minister of Education and Sports Somphou Phongsa, who also wears another hat as Secretariat of the Lao National Olympic Committee, told a press conference held last week that the Committee is about to send athletes to compete in the 100m hurdles, the 110m hurdles, swimming, judo and cycling.
The press conference was held in the presence of Minister of Education and Sports Sengdeuane Lachanthaboun.
The Olympic Games are held every four years in rotation among five continents. The modern Olympic Games have been held since 1896.
“The Olympic Games will provide Lao athletes with a golden opportunity to enrich their experience and test their competitiveness so that they can be better prepared for other major events in the future,” said Mr Somphou.
