Laos, Liberia Establish Diplomatic Ties

Representatives of the Lao government and Liberia have signed a Joint Communiqué establishing diplomatic relations in Beijing, China last week, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Joint Communiqué was signed by Lao Ambassador to China, Mrs Vandy Bouthasavong and Liberian Ambassador to China, Mr. Dudley McKinley Thomas. It is important in forming the basis for the creation of a new platform for expanding and deepening relations, friendship and cooperation at the multilateral level between the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Republic of Liberia. Liberia had become the 139th country with which the Lao PDR has established diplomatic relations.

Liberia is a country on the West African coast and bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Ivory Coast to its east. The population surveyed in 2013 was 4.294 million.
