A central regions tourism promotion festival will be held in Vientiane province from December 10-16 with the aim of attracting larger numbers of local and foreign tourists.
The festival organising committee estimates that over 6,000 local and foreign visitors will be joining this year. This is the second occasion the festival will be held in Vientiane province.
The organising committee are arranging various activities to present to the visitors, including to local agriculture and handicraft product exhibitions and fairs as well as traditional art demonstrations from the central provinces of Vientiane, Xaysomboun, Borikhamxay, Khammuan, Savannakhet and the capital Vientiane.
About 200 stores selling agricultural products, handicrafts, and foods will be joined by local private enterprises.
Residents of all eleven districts in Vientiane province will bring their one-district- one-products for sale and exhibition at the fair.
Vientiane provincial officials are also preparing the large venue where the festival will be held, to create convenience for visitors, as well as officials. There will be a security team assigned to ensure safety for visitors.
This is the ninth occasion the central regions tourism promotion festival has been held in cooperation between six central provinces, with the expo hosted by Khammuan province last year.
According to the festival organising committee, the purposes of the central regions tourism promotion festival include encouraging tourism development in the central regions by presenting the local products available and showcasing several of the tourist sites in each central province.
Each year, there are about 5-6,000 people taking part in the festival, which generates income for tourism services as well as local residents of the target provinces.
