Some 995 lives were claimed by road accidents in Laos last year with Vientiane topping the list of road accident death toll density, the National Statistics Bureau said in the recently released Statistical Yearbook 2015.
In Vientiane Capital, 237 lives were claimed in road accidents ranking it the area with the greatest number of road accident deaths followed by Champassak where 110 deaths were reported, and Savannakhet where 105 deaths were recorded.
Comparatively, Vientiane has highest death toll density with one in every 3,464 people dying in road accidents, Bolikhamxay has one in every 4,281 people killed in road accidents, and Luang Namtha has one in every 4,512 lives claimed in road accidents.
Xaysomboun, Xieng Khuang and Huaphan had the lowest number of road accident deaths with 7 reported in Xaysomboune, 8 in Xieng Khuang and 17 in Huaphan.
However in terms of death toll density, Xieng Khuang ranked at the top as having the lowest death toll density recording one in every 30,625, followed by Huaphan with one in every 17,000 and Xaysomboune with one in every 12,142.
