Lao and Foreign Shooters Take Aim for IPSC Championship

Teams from Laos and four other countries are ready to take part at the annual IPSC Shooting Championship 2016 in Vientiane this weekend.

The International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) championship from October 15-16 will comprise five different events: classic, revolver, standard, open and production to be held at the new April 5 International Shooting Range in Xaysettha district, Vientiane.

The Lao shooting team has 30 competitors with many having previous national and international level experience while 70 shooters will come from Thailand, China, Singapore and Slovakia.

Organisers are also looking forward to the event to assess the standard of local competition facilities and officials.

We would like to test the range’s standard and the skills of officials when hosting an international event, President of the April 5 International Shooting Range Mr. Phoutthasak Souk-aloun said.

Mr. Phoutthasak said Lao shooters had been competing in the IPSC event for many years and they trained regularly at the facility in preparation for this year’s event.

The standard of Lao shooters was getting better along with shooters in other ASEAN countries, he added.

At 2003’s 22nd SEA Games in Vietnam, the Lao shooting team on a bronze medal. At the 25th SEA Games on home soil in 2009, Laos won three gold, a silver and a bronze medal. At the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia in 2011, solitary the Lao shooting team won a gold medal.
