Savannakhet provincial men’s and women’s student volleyball teams will begin to train regularly at an indoor stadium and live-in accommodation until traveling to compete at the 6th National School Games in Borikhamxay province in February 2017.

Savannakhet province selected 14 men’s and 14 women’s players from secondary schools in many districts in January , who have made up the bulk of the squad in the time since.

During the training camp set to commence, the men’s and women’s volleyball teams will be trained by the Savannakhet provincial trainer, who will be assisted by a Japanese volunteer trainer.

Savannakhet provincial volleyball trainer, Ms Veomany Vatsalachit said they would like to provide some budget support to the men’s and women’s volleyball players during training at the live-in accommodation camp.

Ms Veomany said they will be able to provide transportation and facilities for the male and female student players to get to school or university each day.

This year the teams feature talented players from many districts of Savannakhet but none of them have experience at the national or international levels as yet.

Ms Veomany said during training, they also plan to support the men’s and women’s teams to test their skills during a friendly match in the province.

Savannakhet provincial volleyball federation is also preparing the men’s and women’s student volleyball teams to compete at the Minister of Education and Sport’s Cup in Vientiane from November 20-27.

After finishing the school games in Borikhamxay province next year, the Savannakhet provincial men’s and women’s student volleyball teams will then go on to represent the province to compete at the 11th National Games in XiengKhuang province in 2018.

At the 5th National School Games in Champassak province in 2014, the Savannakhet men’s volleyball team managed to secure a gold medal, while the women won silver.
