Laos likely to extend lockdown this week

Dr. Phonepaseuth Xayamoungkhoun spoke at the daily briefing by the National Taskforce today, stating that Covid-19 lockdown measures are expected to be extended.

She said that the extension will see the continuation of some measures and the relaxation of other measures, however, the country is not yet able to return to normalcy while the virus continues to spread in the community.

“As you know, in two days’ time, on the 19th of June, it will be the final day of the Covid-19 prevention measures implemented under Prime Ministerial Instruction No. 595, issued 4 June,” said Dr. Phonepaseuth.

“After this date, the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control will likely extend some Covid-19 prevention measures as appropriate to the spread of Covid-19 in the country. There will be some measures that still need to be strictly implemented and some additional measures that will be mitigated,” she continued.

Dr. Phonepaseuth Xayamoungkhoun urged residents to please continue to take every measure possible to reduce the number of people who are infected with Covid-19 each day until the country reaches the point where there are no more community infections.
