The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has urged the public to comply with Covid-19 restrictions to avoid a third wave in Laos.
Director-General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, under the Ministry of Health, Dr. Lattanaxay Phetsouvanh, says that the public must make a greater effort to comply with Covid restrictions and prevention measures outlined by the government.
Laos has at risk of a third major outbreak of community spread due to people meeting in groups and holding gatherings, according to Dr. Lattanaxay.
He said that authorities are having difficulty controlling the number of parties that are still being held across the country, in direct violation of Covid restriction orders.
“At the same time, people in offices, factories, and restaurants have begun to take the restrictions lightly, failing to comply with Prime Ministerial Order 15/PM and other measures outlined by the taskforce,” said Dr. Lattanaxay.
Authorities are now urging the population to refrain from congregating in groups and to stay at their homes as much as possible.
“Despite the entry into red zones being prohibited, some residents continue to violate the Covid restrictions by entering and exiting the red zone villages without permission,” he said.
Business leaders must play a greater role in promoting strict compliance with Covid measures, encouraging employees to behave appropriately.
