Vientiane Capital Records 24 Cases of Community Spread of Covid-19

Laos has confirmed 127 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases to 17,682.

The country conducted 3,985 tests over the last 24 hours, confirming 127 new cases of Covid-19, according to a report by the National Taskforce.

There were 54 community cases of Covid-19 confirmed, with 24 in Vientiane Capital, four in Savannakhet Province, 13 in Champasack, four in Salavanh, and nine in khammouane.

In Vientiane Capital the 24 cases included a father and child in Amone Village, Saysettha District, two cases in Donnokhoum Village, Sisattanak District, one case in Dongnasok Tai, Sikottabong District and employed at Mini Big C near Lao Plaza Hotel.

Two cases were recorded in Saysavang Village, Xaythany District, involving two Thai nationals working as machine repairmen at a garment factory.

Three cases were recorded in Hongkaykeo Village, Chanthabouly District among family members (who remain asymptomatic) but had attended a funeral in Pakse.

A family of four have also been confirmed positive in Donsasai Village, Hatsongfong District after attending the funeral in Pakse.

Another case was discovered in Houayhong Village, Chantabouly Distirct, identified as a van driver who took passengers to Pakse to attend the funeral, while a woman in Dongmakkai who tested positive has also been traced to the same funeral.

A further six cases were recorded in Xaythany District related to a vegetable seller at the Donnoun market.

Locations of risk in Vientiane Capital have been identified as follows:

  • The Department of Natural Resources and Environment in Dongmakkai
  • Amazon Cafe in That Luang
  • Pocky Korean Restaurant in Dongdok
  • Houngaloun Thadindeng Branch
  • Mini Big C near Lao Plaza Hotel
  • Intermex Fashion Garment Factory

Meanwhile, the country recorded 73 imported cases of Covid-19, with 11 in Vientiane Capital, 24 in Savannakhet, six in Salavanh, 30 in Khammouane, and two in Luang Prabang.

The country now has 4,444 active cases of Covid-19 and has recorded 16 deaths.
