Laos Sees 1,274 New Covid-19 Cases, Record Number of Deaths

Laos has confirmed 1,274 cases of Covid-19 across the country today, with eleven deaths making a new record for the country.

The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control reported that 4,638 tests were conducted across the country over the last 24 hours, with 1,274 new cases confirmed.

There were 1,274 cases of community spread across the country.

New Deaths

A 65-year-old man in Phonkeo Village, Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province, passed away on 9 December in hospital. He had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

A 65-year-old man in Nalao Village, Phonhong District, Vientiane Province, passed away on 10 December in hospital. He had suffered from hypertension and dyslipidemia. He had not been vaccinated against Covid-19. 

A 60-year-old man in Phasung Village, Fuaeng District, Vientiane Province, passed away on 10 December in hospital. He had suffered from hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disease. He had not been vaccinated against Covid-19. 

A 97-year-old man in Nabone Village, Phonhong District, Vientiane Province, passed away on 10 December in hospital. He had suffered from hypertension and COPD. He had not been vaccinated against Covid-19. 

A 70-year-old man in Nakaen Village, Kasy District, Vientiane Province, passed away on 10 December in hospital. He had suffered from tuberculosis and had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. 

A 70-year-old man in Nayao Village, Muen District, Vientiane Province, passed away on 10 December in hospital. No information was provided as to whether the man had been vaccinated against Covid-19.

A 53-year-old woman in Mai Village, Phonhong District, Vientiane Province, passed away yesterday in hospital. She had suffered from hypertension and dyslipidemia. She had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

A 46-year-old woman in Phonsavan Village, Sisattanak District, Vientiane Capital, passed away yesterday at 103 Hospital. She had suffered from diabetes. She had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

A 54-year-old man in Saengsavang Village, Saysettha District, Vientiane Capital, passed away yesterday at 103 Hospital. He had suffered from diabetes and hypertension. He had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

A 81-year-old man in Nongphaya Village, Xaythany District, Vientiane Capital, passed away today at 103 Hospital. He had suffered from diabetes and hypertension. He had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

A 64-year-old woman in Nongbone Village, Saysettha District, Vientiane Capital, passed away yesterday evening at Setthathirath Hospital. She had suffered from epilepsy and sinusitis. She had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Community Spread by Province:

Vientiane Capital recorded 809 cases across 198 villages in eight districts.

In Luang Prabang Province, a total of 131 cases of community spread were recorded, with one case in Numbak District.

In Luang Prabang City there were 77 cases, Pak Ou District saw five cases, Pak Saeng District saw one case, Chomphet District saw seven cases, and Nan District saw one case. 

In Bokeo Province there were 59 cases today.

In Savannakhet Province, there were 20 cases.

In Vientiane Province, there were 48 cases today.

Champasack Province saw 31 cases today.

Khammouane Province saw five cases today.

Total Cases:

Laos now has 12,231 active cases of Covid-19, with 247 confirmed deaths, and 89,320 total cases.  

Meanwhile, 674 people recovered and were discharged from hospitals around the country yesterday.

Vaccination Rate

First dose vaccinations have now reached 57.48% of the total population, while second dose vaccinations have now reached 44.73%.
