Laos will send its first rhythmic gymnast to the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Praewa Misato Philapandeth, 17, began gymnastics at the age of eight and has competed in several competitions throughout her career.
Ms. Praewa, of Lao, Thai, and Japanese heritage, is now a junior at Singapore International School in Bangkok.
The young gymnast will travel to Vietnam on 15 May to compete in the rhythmic gymnastics events from 18-19 May.
“I feel proud and honored to represent Laos. I am determined to do my best and make our country proud,” Preawa said on social media.
Meanwhile, two French athletes were conferred with Lao passports early this month, allowing them to officially compete in tennis and kickboxing on behalf of Laos at the SEA Games 2021.
The SEA Games is now being held in Hanoi, Vietnam, with eleven countries competing for the top position.
The Laos U-23 mens football team drew 2-2 against Singapore this week but took at 4-0 loss to Cambodia on Monday.
