Police arrested a Thai man at the first Laos-Thai Friendship Bridge in Vientiane after discovering various illegal items inside his car.
According to the head of the International Custom Office, Mr. Souksavanh Bouapha, while inspecting a black Chevrolet on arrival, the police managed to confiscate several contrabands, including an unassembled pistol, four kilograms of ketamine, 11 sex stimulants, and one aerial camera. The car had a Bangkok number plate.
Following an initial interrogation, the man claimed that he had bought the items online but forgot to take them off his car. He said that his purpose for entering Laos was merely to deliver medical equipment to a local hospital.
The police temporarily took custody of the man’s vehicle and his drone while the pistol was sent to the local immigration office to process according to the customs procedures as it is illegal to bring weapons into the country.
Earlier this month, Lao Prime Minister, Phankham Viphavanh met with his Thai Counterpart, Mr. Prayut Chan-o-cha to lay foundation stones for the fifth Laos-Thai friendship bridge in Bolikhamxay province in Laos and Bueng Kan province in Thailand. Both PMs thought that more bridges were needed to boost economic development for the two nations and facilitate transport between them.
