Lao National Police handed over the custody of the three men to Thai authorities in Nong Khai on Wednesday.

The handover took place in Nong Khai’s customs office, and it was attended by the Deputy Chief of the Police Department of the Lao Ministry of Public security, Brigadier General Kanchan Phommachack, and Thai Deputy Commissioner of the National Police General Souraseht Hakphanh and other relevant officers.

Among the three men, two were accused of robbery while the other was arrested for illegally entering the country.

The robbers, namely Mr. Phattarath Hansoury and Mr. Jirawut Thongsuepsaiy, were from Thailand’s Khon Kaen province and had previously worked together to rob people in their country. One of them is also believed to have shot some people to death.

According to the Lao police, the Thai police department has handed documentation to them, requesting cooperation to crack down on the two robbers who had fled to Laos on 3 November to avoid their punishment.

The Lao police eventually managed to apprehend the two criminals in Vientiane’s Saysettha where they had been hiding.

Last week, Nong Khai customs officers also arrested a Thai petrol truck driver at the Laos-Thai Friendship Bridge for trying to smuggle millions of amphetamine pills into the country.
