Laos U23 Team Beats Thailand in Friendly Football Match

This Week

The Laos Under-23 National Football Team stunned regional football fans by defeating Thailand’s U23 team during a friendly match yesterday.

The match took place at 5 pm at Rangsit University Stadium in Thailand, bringing Laos its first U23 victory over Thailand in decades.

The Laos team, under the guidance of head coach Michael Weiss, was led by Lao-French attacker, Billy Ketkeophomphone, who was invited back to join the national team.

Billy scored the first and only goal of the game in the 29th minute.

Fans were overjoyed at the victory, which left the Thai side stunned, although some fans commented on social media that without the French-Lao player, Laos may not have been able to score so quickly.

According to the Lao Football Federation (LFF), Laos is to play a second friendly game against Thailand, after yesterday’s victory. The second match will take place on 14 December in preparation for the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 that will be held in Thailand at the end of this month.
