A new dairy farm in Xieng Khouang Province will start exporting fresh milk to Vietnam in May 2023.
Lao media reports that the Director of Agriculture and Land of Vinamilk Laos – Jagro, Mr. Sengpan Phetdala, said that the company currently has 1,000 dairy cows that were imported from America in July. Starting May 2023, the cows will start producing 35,000-40,000 liters of milk per day.
It is expected that in March next year, the farm will import 4,000 more cows, and also cultivate suitable crops for cattle feed to reach its planned capacity of 8,000 cows.
Under the approved construction plan, the first phase of the farm will cover 5,000 hectares and the second phase is expected to expand the farm to 15,000-20,000 hectares with an investment of USD 150 million.
Mr. Sangpan informed that during the three years of project implementation, the company has fulfilled its tax obligations to the state budget, the total value of which is more than LAK 13 billion.
The dairy company has employed more than 200 people that include both Vietnamese dairy experts and local workers. There would be hundreds of more jobs on offer for residents in the area once the construction of the dairy farm is complete.
Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) is the largest dairy company in Vietnam with a value of over USD 2.8 billion, and is one of the most valuable brands in Vietnam, according to Brand Finance.
