More than 1,000 families displaced during the six-year construction period of the Laos-China Railway still wait for compensation from the company.

A total of 1,018 families of 6,855 families are expecting compensation of over LAK 200 billion, or around USD 11 million, for the construction of the railway in four provinces of Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, and the capital of Vientiane.

President of the State Inspection Authority, Mr. Khamphan Phommathat, said at a recent National Assembly Session that the compensation process for the affected people had not yet been concluded.

The State Inspection Authority has assigned the task to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport directing the management committee to work with the relevant parties to find more solutions to disburse the amount effectively.

The Lao government will provide over LAK 465 billion in compensation to those who have been affected by the Laos-China railway project.

Laos-China Railway was officially launched in early December last year, with the government pledging to continue compensating residents who have been affected.
