A schoolgirl from Roi Et Province, Thailand was killed after a man stabbed her on a school bus on Friday.
Bangkok Post reports that the 14-year-old schoolgirl was attacked with a kitchen knife in front of other students and teachers in Ban Lao Witthayakan School. The man had followed the victim to school on his motorbike before the incident.
Teachers detained the man before the police arrived at the scene, but the grievously wounded schoolgirl who was admitted to the hospital passed away.
Pol Capt Sunchart Sawatpol of Roi Et Province Station reported that 36-year-old Preecha Waisorn stabbed the girl in the neck and chest.
The man had disagreements with the girl’s parents and was diagnosed with mental illness, according to the spokesman from the Thai Royal Police.
Police said that the man was released from jail for three days before the incident took place.
The mother of the attacker apologized to the schoolgirl’s family on the same day and revealed that her son had suffered from mental illness before being released from jail where he was earlier held for illegal weapon possession.
In October last year, 36 people were reported dead at a mass shooting in a daycare center, in Thailand’s northeastern province of Nong Bua Lamphu.
