Ukrainian deminers will receive a training course on mine clearance technology from The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) this month.
Ukraine has reported some of the highest civilian casualties from landmines and unexploded ordnances following the Russian invasion of the country in 2022.
These landmines continue to pose a threat to civilians which is why the governments of Cambodia and Japan have stepped forward to support CMAC and help run a humanitarian mine clearance course for deminers from Ukraine.
A press release issued by CMAC informed that landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to be very dangerous for civilians in Ukraine and hinder rehabilitation efforts for millions of people who were displaced due to the war last year.
According to the press release, “the work of clearing mines and explosive remnants of war was a necessary and urgent humanitarian action to guarantee the safety of the Ukrainian people and support the process of rebuilding homes and infrastructure and clearing land for agriculture.”
