Champasak authorities prosecuted 37 people for corruption-related offenses between 2021 and 2025, according to figures presented by the State Inspection Authority.
The figures were released on 18 September during a provincial conference reviewing inspection work over the five-year period.
Over the same period, authorities monitored and inspected 221 state investment projects worth both more than and less than LAK 10 billion (USD 446,500), as well as two projects in their early stages.
The State Inspection Authority did not disclose the financial losses linked to the corruption cases or the amount of money recovered. It also did not provide details of the penalties imposed on those prosecuted.
National Pattern
The figures from Champasak come as other provinces and courts have reported corruption-related cases in recent months.
In Houaphanh, authorities reported on 10 September that 120 officials had been found to have violated party regulations and state laws between 2021 and 2025, resulting in financial losses of nearly LAK 13 billion (USD 579,700).
Authorities expelled 45 officials and disciplined another 37, while recovering just over one-third of the identified losses.
In late July, the Attapeu Provincial People’s Court sentenced 15 officials over a scheme involving more than LAK 103.5 billion (USD 4.64 million), with 10 receiving life sentences.
Earlier that month, the Vientiane court sentenced 17 defendants from the State Inspection Authority, the central bank and Electricity of Laos. In one hydropower-related case, the court ordered more than USD 24.8 million in compensation.
