China to Debut State-Owned Ride-hailing Platform

This Week

China is to launch a government-owned transport platform that will incorporate ride-hailing and flight services, according to state media.

China Daily reports that the Qiangguo Jiaotong platform, which translates as “Strong Nation Transport Platform,” will soon be available on Xuexi Qiangguo, a mobile application operated by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

The platform, jointly created by Qiangguo and the Ministry of Transport, will initially offer ride-hailing services but is expected to add flights, water transport, freight, and other services in the future.

It will be connected to other digital services after its launch, including WeChat, Alipay, Douyin, and other platforms.

The mobile application has been set up to counter the “disorderly expansion of the existing car-hailing industry,” according to Beijing Daily.
