The governments of Laos and Japan planted 150 cherry blossom trees on Tuesday in Viengxay District, Houaphanh Province, to celebrate and strengthen relations between the two countries.
KPL reports that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Mr. Phankham Viphavanh, Former Prime Minister of Laos, and Mr. Kobayashi Kenichi, Japanese Ambassador to Laos, participated in the planting event alongside other Lao and Japanese officials.
The project to plant cherry trees in Laos celebrated the friendship and cooperation between the two countries on the 65th Laos-Japan relations in March last year but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Laos-Japan Friendship Garden highlights the cooperation between Laos and Japan, particularly the human assistance aid from Japan.
This garden also contributes to promoting tourism and the development of Huaphan province in the future.
Houaphanh proclaimed the Cherry Blossom as its provincial flower at Houaphanh-Thanh Hóa park in December last year.
