Gear Failure Causes SUV to Collide with School Bus, Cars and Motorcycles

Local police reported that the accident that took place in Sisattanak District, Vientiane Capital involving motorcycles, cars, and a school bus on 24 January, was caused due to a gear failure.

Colonel. Sinlasone Chanthavongsa, Head of the Sisattanak District Traffic Police, said during an interview with Lao National Radio that a gear failure in a Toyota SUV caused it to collide with other vehicles.

The accident was reported at 7:30 am when a speeding Toyota Fortuner, hit four motorcycles, two cars, and a school bus from the French International School of Vientiane.

Eight people were injured, including a motorcyclist whose legs suffered fractures, but no fatalities were reported from the incident.

According to Colonel. Sinlasone, the driver of the car that caused the accident compensated the victims for all damages following a police investigation.

A similar accident involving five motorbikes and two cars took place in September last year and it was attributed to a drunk driver after being initially reported as brake failure.
