Lao and Cambodian Prime Ministers intend on deepening the relations between their two countries following the official visit of the Cambodian Prime Minister to Laos this week.
On his visit, Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia commended the progress of bilateral trade, which increased from USD 160 million in 2021 to USD 210 million in 2022, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Information.
The Lao and the Cambodian leaders discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, border cooperation, tourism exchange, connectivity, and extradition.
The Cambodian PM said during the bilateral meeting that Cambodia will return Laotian prisoners to Laos by the Lunar New Year celebration in April.
After the bilateral meeting, the prime ministers signed two agreements on the border demarcation between their countries that is 86 percent complete, and the Action Plan for the Comprehensive and Long-Lasting Strategic Partnership between the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia for the year 2023-2027.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone represented the government and the people of Laos in expressing his gratitude to the government and the people of Cambodia for providing assistance and support to Laos.
The Cambodian PM also expressed his congratulations to his newly-elected counterpart in Laos and invited the PM of Laos to the Kingdom of Cambodia on an appropriate occasion.
