Most Parts of Laos to See Chilly Weather Throughout This Week

This Week

Laos will continue to experience cold weather for the rest of this week as the cold wave from China looms over the country, said the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The cold wave will combine with winds from the east and northeast, lowering temperatures in the northern provinces like Xaysomboun and Bolaven plateau by 1-2 degrees. Southern and central Laos, on the other hand, will only experience colder temperatures from night until dawn, with thunderstorms and high winds predicted in some areas.

The weather will be cold in the morning, with light rain and high gusts in some parts of Laos’ northeastern region, including Phongsaly, Houaphanh, and Xieng Khouang provinces. Temperatures are also anticipated to fall by 1-2 degrees during the weekend to around 8-10 degrees, but it could also reach 16-20 degrees during the day.

The northwestern region comprising Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Luang Prabang, and Xayaboury provinces will see thin to heavy fog during the entire week, with chilly morning temperatures and moderate wind. The temperature will be as low as 9-12 degrees at nightfall and could go as high as 28-30 degrees during the day.

The temperature will be slightly higher in the central part of the country, reaching 27-30 degrees, but dropping to 13-15 degrees in the evening. Strong winds are expected in the provinces of Khammouane and Savannakhet.

Xaysomboun province in particular will experience mild rain and strong wind in most areas. The lowest temperature will hover between 9-11 degrees, while the highest could range from 19-21 degrees.

Provinces in the south, on the contrary, will see an even higher temperature. While the temperature could be around 17-20 degrees at its lowest, the maximum is predicted to be as high as 29-32 degrees. Together with strong winds, thick fog will envelop some areas of Champasack, Attapeu, and Sekong provinces.

Vientiane Capital will be one of the hottest places in the country this week. The temperature could go up to 31-33 degrees during the day but will slightly get colder at night until dawn reporting temperatures of 17-20 degrees. Most parts of the capital will see thin fog and a light breeze in the morning, as well.
