Kaipen, produced by two Kaipen Community Business Groups in Nambak District, Luang Prabang, has been certified with the prestigious ODOP (One District One Product) certification by the government of Laos.

Kaipen, a delicious snack made from river weed, is also packed with nutrition! Riverweed is a good source of protein, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals. And because Kaipen is made from river weed, it’s low in fat and calories, making it a healthy snack option.

The certification ceremony for Kaipen was attended by the Deputy Mayor of the Nambak district, the Deputy of the Department of Commerce and Industry of Luangprabang, and the CEO of Wonders International.

The certification is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the producers in improving the quality and hygiene of their products, increasing productivity, and ensuring fair prices in the market. Kaipen is not only a delicious and nutritious snack but also supports sustainable agricultural development and economic growth in Laos.

The atmosphere of the certification ceremony

The certification ceremony was held on November 18, 2022, and was attended by prominent government officials, including Mr. Bounthan Chanthasak, Deputy of Nambak district Mayor, Mr. Khamtan Somphanvilay, Deputy of Department of Commerce and Industry of Luangprabang, and Mr. Lee Sung Bum, CEO of Wonders International.

The event was also attended by members of Ban Lee & Ban Bom KCB, each village chief, the Women Union, the Provincial National ODOP Committee, and other local government officials.

Wonders International has been actively involved in supporting Kaipen producers in Laos since 2016. Their mission is to help these producers increase their income and improve their livelihoods by assisting them in improving the quality and hygiene of their products, increasing productivity, and ensuring fair prices in the market.

Through their efforts, Wonders International has successfully established Kaipen as a safe and savory snack that consumers can trust.

Wonders International is committed to promoting high-quality, safe, and nutritious snacks while supporting and uplifting the local communities. The recent ODOP certification ensures that Kaipen is of the highest quality and hygiene.

Wonders International’s partnership with KOICA on a Civil Society Cooperation Program has also been instrumental in supporting this project. The program aims to increase women’s income through the high-quality processing of Kaipen in Laos.

By working together, Wonders International and KOICA are making significant strides in addressing economic inequality in the region and showing community-driven efforts to bring about positive change and development in Laos.
