A new electric vehicle (EV) charging station, capable of serving up to eight vehicles simultaneously, has officially opened at the Seno Rest Area in Savannakhet.
The facility, a collaboration between Chalernchai Phatthana Company and Laothani Tractor Sole Company (BlueDot), marks a significant step in Laos’ transition toward electric transport.
The Seno EV Hub features a 400kW charging system, one of the highest-capacity stations in the country, designed to accommodate both passenger EVs and heavy-duty electric vehicles, including trucks and buses. The hub allows two large vehicles to charge at the same time, reducing waiting times for logistics operators.
Odai Sensone, executive of Chalernchai Development Company, highlighted the choice of BlueDot as a partner: “We prioritized safety and quality for our customers. BlueDot’s installation standards and after-sales services give us confidence that this facility meets international safety requirements.”
The launch is also seen as a strategic move for Laos’ transport sector. Seno, located at a key junction connecting Thailand and Vietnam, is positioned as a central hub for regional logistics.
“Electric trucks are emerging as a viable solution for the future,” Odai said. “With this high-capacity charging station, we are removing previous barriers and providing infrastructure that supports the next generation of transport operators.”
Chalernchai Phatthana officials emphasized the potential for cost savings with electric vehicles. Data suggests that energy costs for electric trucks can be up to ten times lower than traditional fuel, providing an economic incentive for businesses to switch.
The Seno EV Hub also offers facilities for travelers, including food and beverage options and restrooms, aligning with the standard services of Chalernchai Phatthana’s rest areas.
The hub is accessible via the BlueDot application, which is available for both iOS and Android devices. A 24-hour customer service center is also available for support.
