Construction of the Nam Ngeun International Checkpoint in Xayabury Province has reached over 60 percent completion as of June, slightly behind schedule, officials reported.

Located in Ngeun District on the Lao-Thai border, opposite the Huai Kon Border Checkpoint in Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Nan Province, Thailand.

The facility spans 7.17 hectares, it serves as a land crossing in Xayabouly’s northwestern corridor and stands as one of four international checkpoints in the province, alongside the Namheuang Friendship Bridge International Checkpoint in Kenthao the Phoudou International Border Checkpoint in Paklay, and the Pangmon International Border Checkpoint in Khob.

The new facility has been designed to support green energy use, with solar panels installed across building rooftops to reduce reliance on conventional power sources.

Chinese company Shanghai Construction Group, a state-owned engineering and construction firm headquartered in Shanghai, is carrying out the work under a contract valued at USD 6.72 million.

Construction began in February 2025, and the project is scheduled for completion by February 2027, followed by a two-year maintenance phase.

The project currently runs 5.71 percent behind the original timeline.

Officials directed the contractor to maintain regular reporting cycles, ensure construction materials meet high-quality standards, and design the architectural layout for long-term sustainability and durability.
