Xaysomboun Grants Concessions to Two Firms for 5MW Solar Projects

This Week

On 6 March, Xaysomboun Province signed a deal with two private companies for the development of two 5-megawatt solar power projects, advancing the province’s push to draw foreign clean energy investment into the region.

The two projects sit across two districts in the province. Lerd Power Co., Ltd. will develop a project in Phonpha village, Anouvong district, while Indochina Green Power Co., Ltd. will develop another in Na Xaysavang Village, Longchaeng District.

Both companies will operate under 25-year concession periods.

Both projects follow the Build-Own-Operate investment model, utilize remote land areas, and require no state budget support, making them an attractive proposition for the province’s development goals.

Xaysomboun authorities urged all relevant stakeholders from the public and private sectors to prioritize environmental protection, proper land allocation, and systematic implementation throughout the concession period to ensure the projects achieve their intended outcomes.

The agreements come amid a broader surge in solar investment across Laos.

A month earlier, the Lao government signed a feasibility study agreement with Thai company APDL Solar Power Sole Co., Ltd. to develop a 100-MW solar farm in Bolikhamxay, while Électricité du Laos partnered with a South Korean firm to explore another 100-MW project in Oudomxay Province, with construction expected to begin in 2027.
