Laos received several honours at the recent 8th Mekong Tourism Alliance Awards with a presentation ceremony taking place during the International Travel Expo 2016 (ITE) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The number of Mekong Tourism Alliance Awards this year increased to eight from three last year.
The organising committee handed awards to Lao operators for outstanding tourism service, tourism promotion, airlines and traditional festivals. A highlight of the awards night for Laos was the recognition of That Luang Festival in Vientiane.
According to the organising committee, the Mekong Tourism Alliance Awards 2016 recognised travel businesses which had made outstanding contributions to the development of tourism brands of the five Greater Mekong Sub-region countries of Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Ho Chi Minh City ITE is held annually in September with over 20 ASEAN and Europe countries taking part in the event.
It is one of the most established and fast-growing International Travel Expos in the region, aiming to promote the image of Vietnam, while contributing to attracting more tourists to Vietnam and ASEAN member states as well.
The three-day event from September 8-10 had 280 booths including 32 international tourism agencies, 38 local firms and 31 cities and provinces from across Vietnam.
