Earthquakes Cause Tremors for Xayaboury Residents

Xayaboury has recorded four earthquakes measuring from 2.8 to 4.9 on the Richter scale in recent days.

According to a report by the Committee for Disaster Preparation and Control, under the District Office of Labor and Social Welfare, one of the earthquakes struck Dokket Village, Ngeun District, on 7 July at approximately 1:43 pm.

The quake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale and was approximately 15 kilometers deep. It occurred some eight kilometers from the urban center.

Only one village sustained damage, with one family home in Nangua Village seeing damage worth LAK 17 million, according to Lao National Radio.

Meanwhile, Vientiane Times reports that on the same day at 2:09 pm and 2:12 pm, two successive earthquakes measuring 3.2 and 2.8 on the Richter scales were recorded in Ngeun District, about 11 km and 3 km from Ngeun District Capital.

While locals felt the quakes, they were not strong enough to cause any serious damage.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology is monitoring the area because earthquakes have occurred in the locality in the past.
