Lao Officials Improve Railway Knowledge

This Week

Some 30 officials from relevant sectors have improved their knowledge on rail systems after completing a 30-day course with the specialised training preparing them for the Lao-China railway project.

The course closed on Tuesday in the presence of Vice Chairman of Lao-China Cooperation Commission under the Ministry of Planning and Investment Mr. Khenethong Sisouvong, Deputy Director of Distance and Continuing Education School under the Southwest Jiaotong University Ms Xin Ling, Director of Public Works and Transport Institute Mr. Thenekham Thongbonh, and Mr. Hai Xian a representative from Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy to Laos.

In his closing remarks Mr. Khenethong said the training came about from efforts between the two sides, in particular Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy to Laos, the Southwest Jiaotong University, the Lao-China Cooperation Commission Office, and Public Works and Transport Institute.

The bilateral training course was financially supported by the Chinese government and the second such training related to railways in Laos.

The governments of both countries gave high importance to the specialised training as it will help Lao technical staff prepare for the Lao-China railway project.

Some work on the historic railway project linking Vientiane with the Chinese border over a distance of 427.2 kilometres was already underway, Mr. Khenethong added.

Course organisers admitted that the training venue and facilities were not perfect but attendees rose to the challenge throughout the month long course.

We hope that all trainees will learn lessons and gain technical knowledge from this course to effectively use in real practice, contributing to work on construction of the Lao-China railway project, Mr. Khenethong said.
